“…And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?”
Esther 4 v 14
Esther then asks Mordecai and all the Jews he can gather to pray and fast for her saying this courageous thing,
“…I will go to the king, even though it is against the law. And if I perish, I perish.”
Esther 4 v 16
Esther goes to the King and he agrees to see her. She asks him and Haman to a banquet. They come for a meal several times and Haman thinks he’s really in favour with the royals. In the meantime, with his plan to annihilate the Jews in full swing, Haman decides to plot the murder of Mordecai himself. That night, the King can’t sleep and orders the chronicles to his room so he can read. There he finds the record of Mordecai saving him from an assassination and the next day he gets Haman to give Mordecai lavish clothes and has him ride a horse so the people can see him exalted for what he did. Haman, needless to say, is not best pleased. And all this time, the Jews’ lives hang in the balance. The King and Haman come to a final banquet with Queen Esther where she steels herself to ask the King to save her people. She does it, admitting her race and putting herself in a position of complete vulnerability and calling out Haman at the same time. The King, who loves Esther, orders Haman be executed and, as he cannot repeal the edict which is already underway for the Jewish people’s demise, he issues another which legalises their ability to fight for their lives against those who try to kill them.
It’s the most amazing story. It’s got it all, love, royalty, family, assassinations, courage and bravery! God had a way of saving an entire nation through one woman, and that one woman had to step up, risk her life and be courageous. What a woman!
