Derek smiled back and said, “I have a feeling that you and I are going to be just fine.”

“Are you talking about the agency or about you and me?”

  “I am.”

Thank you for reading the fourth in the Derek Cole Series, “The Devil’s Snare.” This story was inspired by a few things I’d like to take a few minutes to tell you about.

First, I am a volunteer fire fighter with a small, Upstate New York fire department. While I am not an EMT, I have been on way too many emergency medical calls involving a drug overdose. I’ve seen people, much younger than me (as well as significantly older) clinging to life as a result of their addiction to heroin or to other drugs. Let me tell you, there is NOTHING pretty, glamorous or exciting about drugs. If you or someone you know has a drug problem, I implore you to seek help.

Death can arrive at your door without warning in the normal course of life: Why tempt it closer by using a drug known to kill?

Secondly, in The Devil’s Snare, Derek was about to jump through a window, into a burning house, to save Nikkie. Fortunately for him, a fire fighter stopped him or there wouldn’t be any additional Derek Cole novels.

Hollywood and television shows depict structure fires as moderately dangerous places, filled with a bit of smoke, some well-contained fire areas and fire fighters moving about with little difficulty.

Trust me, the inside of a burning building is very, very different.

I pray that you never experience being in a fire but, if you do and can get out, STAY OUT! Running into a burning building, with super-heated, toxic gasses and 1,000 degree heat, offers little to no chance of survival. Practice your escape plan, check the batteries in your smoke detectors and, if you live in an area where a volunteer department provides fire and emergency services, consider volunteering or making a contribution.

Lastly, as an Indie author, reviews are very important to me (and to all Indie authors). If you enjoyed The Devil’s Snare, please take two minutes and leave an honest review. And when you’re done with that, visit www.tpatrickphelps.com, sign up for my newsletter and I’ll send you a free ebook.

I hate spam and junk mail way more than most and promise I won’t send more than a few emails a months and will never share your email with anyone.

  Thanks again
