Holy Ghosts Page 15

by Gary Jansen

And lastly, this book is especially dedicated to the memory of Bert Poppi, Peter Smith, Hannah Jane “Jennie” Box, Clara Box, and to my grandparents Julia and Harry Powell, who loved me like a son and were two of my greatest champions.

  ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Gary Jansen has worked in publishing for more than fifteen years and served as editor in chief of Quality Paperback Book Club. He is currently an editor at the Crown Publishing Group, specializing in books on religion and spirituality. His first book, The Rosary: A Journey to the Beloved, was praised by Paulo Coelho, the bestselling author of The Alchemist, as “a wonderful book. Not just wonderful, but very important.” Publishers Weekly’s review of Jansen’s second book, Exercising Your Soul: Fifteen Minutes a Day to a Spiritual Life, called him an author who “amuses and inspires.” Both books were published by Faithwords/Hachette. Jansen lives in New York with his wife and two sons.

This incident really happened. I have changed the name of the victim and his age and substituted a different nearby town to protect the family’s privacy. But it is important to note that this substitution is consistent with the changes made on pages 142 and 152. The actual age and the word Mary Ann Winkowski used during our initial phone conversation were the same age and word in the article I read that day in my office.
