  The house didn’t breathe a sound now. Dewey thought about arranging a meeting with Mr. Snow, about organizing Clara’s vegetable cookies, about his homework, the vending machine nightmare. His chest got tight and let him know he’d forgotten to exhale. The body, it seemed, had a way of doing that even without his help.
