Uh-oh.
Rahal stood, stretched in a way that would have made Xia’s panties wet if she’d been wearing any. “If that’s the only obstacle to us staying with you, I can take care of it.” He reached into the pocket of his pants and pulled out a small pouch.
Xia was still trying to figure out how he could put anything other than a scrap of paper into his pockets, especially something as bulky as the pouch. Considering how tight his pants were, she suspected an anomaly in the fabric of space and time, or at least of the fabric of the pants.
“Rita, would this upgrade the life support?” Rahal brandished the bag in Rita’s direction.
Xia grabbed the bag before Rita could and glanced inside. “I’m pretty sure that would buy us a whole new spaceship and then some.” She tossed the bag to Mik. “Want to replace the Malcolm?”
“Not really, but if someone else is paying for it…”
Rahal darted over and tried to intercept the bag. Mik passed it to Gan, who tossed it well over Rahal’s head and into Xia’s waiting hands.
“Come on, guys.” Rahal tried to grab for the bag, but Cal conveniently interposed himself between the two felinoids. “That’s all I have in the galaxy until I get this whole being-declared-dead issue straightened out.”
“Yesterday you said you were fine with that,” Cal chided, “that you’d been filthy rich long enough and it was getting dull.”
“It was a huge snoozefest at the end. But I can’t spoil my friends the way I’m used to and that’s terrible. I’d love to buy you all a new ship, but new life support is all I can manage for now. Well, that, and maybe some other upgrades.” He threw his hands up in the air. “Oh stars. Mik, Gan, your daughter has rescued me from a fate worse than death—boredom. Get yourselves a new ship if you want one. I’ll find some entertaining way to get more money when I need it.”
Mik just laughed. “Well, we could probably use a bigger ship, with three new crew members. Also, I believe you and Cal owe my daughter a lasercannon.”
“We do,” Cal said solemnly. “And we’ll honor that. But I’m afraid the galaxy will never be the same.”
“Won’t be anyway,” Xia declared, slipping both arms around Cal’s waist and her tail around Rahal. “We have each other now. The galaxy is in deep trouble, even if I don’t get that lasercannon. But,” she added quickly, “I still want one.”
About the Author
Teresa Noelle Roberts started writing stories in kindergarten and she hasn’t stopped yet. A prolific author of short erotica, she’s also a published poet and fantasy writer—but hot paranormals and BDSM-spiced contemporaries have always been her favorites. Then she discovered that SF romance offers new possibilities for wild sex and imaginative adventure, so she’s added that subgenre to her repertoire.
Teresa is a crunchy granola girl who enjoys belly dance, yoga, cooking, hiking, playing in the ocean and growing more vegetables than she and her husband can possibly eat. She’d enjoy sleeping too. She thinks. But it takes so much time!
She shares her home in southern Massachusetts with her husband—a Leo in law enforcement who introduced her to action-adventure movies, comics, graphic novels and anime (the science-fiction series is all his fault, in other words!)—and two overstuffed cats. She and her husband often plan vacations around food, history and/or proximity to water.
