  4. b—In 1950, eight teams participated in the Little League Baseball® World Series. Kankakee, Illinois, and Hagerstown, Maryland, were both defeated in the semifinals. They played each other in a consolation game that lasted exactly one hour. Illinois won 1–0.

  5. FALSE!—Dr. Creighton J. Hale, namesake of the Creighton J. Hale International Grove, created the protective batting helmet, not the face mask, in 1959.

  6. d—In 2007, Little League International implemented the first official pitch count rule, aimed at protecting young pitchers’ arms from injury caused by repetitive motion and overuse. The rule was put into effect following extensive medical research.

  7. FALSE!—Construction on Volunteer Stadium began in 2000, in anticipation of the Little League Baseball World Series expansion from eight to sixteen teams in 2001. Construction was completed in time for the tournament. Lamade Stadium was built in 1959.

  8. b—The first organized Little League® baseball game was played on June 6, 1939, at Park Point in Williamsport, PA. The first game was a 23–8 win for Lundy Lumber over Lycoming Dairy.

  9. FALSE!—Tee Ball games were played on the South Lawn of the White House, but it was baseball lover, Little League supporter, and former U.S. president George W. Bush who organized the initiative. The first games were played in 2001.

  10. c—Little League was founded in 1939, making 2014 the 75th anniversary season for the program founded in Williamsport, PA, by Carl E. Stotz.
