Gotta fuck her now. I lifted her slightly, and both long legs wrapped around my waist. I pounded into her, and with each thrust, she tightened her pussy around me, increasing the friction to almost unbearable levels. Her tits were in my face, so I sucked her hard nipple into my mouth and tugged on it with my teeth. Her head flailed from side to side.
Someone knocked on the door, but I didn’t give a fuck. Neither did she. She was so lost in the moment I wasn’t certain she even heard the pounding.
My balls felt like they were going to explode as she tightened even further, and her cream bathed my cock. I was going to come, so I fucked her harder. Our lips finally met as I exploded inside her. I kept thrusting, and she came again.
A satisfied smile crossed her lips as she lowered her legs. I made sure she could stand before I pulled out. My cock glistened with her cream. I took a piss in the stall while she cleaned up. We both dressed in silence. Words weren’t necessary since we both got what we wanted.
Another knock on the door, and this time, someone said, “Evie, we gotta leave.”
She smiled. “That’s my driver.”
“Wait. are you EV White?” Shit.
“It’s Evie, not EV,” she said with a smile and left.
Best business meeting ever.
Jack wasn’t sure when he grabbed his cock and started stroking, but now he had to finish. It didn’t take long. A few long strokes and he came hard. It was too late to call Em, so Jack went into the bathroom and cleaned up. Exhausted, he crawled into bed. He grabbed his phone off the nightstand and sent her a text: You are the best girlfriend ever!
As he typed out the word girlfriend, he said a silent prayer that she wouldn’t bail on him tomorrow.

FOURTEEN
Emily smiled to herself as she waited in Grand Central Station for the bus to arrive. She’d woken on the couch at two in the morning, covered in sweat, a nightmare jarring her awake. The glass of wine sat untouched on the coffee table, and Nicki’s manuscript was on the floor. She’d stood too quickly and lost her balance, hitting her knee on the edge of the table. She hadn’t been able to sleep after that. She’d checked her phone and saw Jack’s text. He’d found her surprise. She’d texted him back a single emoji: shit-eating grin smiley face.
It’d been too early to call him before she’d left for work. He’d called around ten, but she’d been busy and had to get off the phone. She had several clients to get copy done for, and since last week had been so bad, she was anxious to get the job done right. He had an interview during her lunch break, so they hadn’t been able to talk then, and after work, she’d been in a rush to get into the city to catch the bus to Hartford. The band was doing soundcheck now, so she called Eddie.
“Hey, beautiful,” Eddie said. “How ya doin’?”
“Better.” It was too soon to tell him about Jack.
“You sound better. I’m glad your bosses forced you to take time off. It obviously helped. Have you been keeping up with yoga and strength training?”
“No. I blew everything off, but I’m doing yoga again, and I’ll hit the gym next week.”
“I can come up this weekend if you want a refresher. Crap. Hold on. Teddy, Michael, stop that right now.”
Emily smiled. Her nephews were rambunctious on good days. From Eddie’s voice, she could tell it wasn’t one of those.
“Gotta go, beautiful, Teddy and Michael are using Nicholas as a canvas. Love you.”
“Love you, too. Give my love to Sheryl.”
When she’d been transferred to the rehab facility after months in the hospital, Eddie had been assigned as her physical therapist. Since she’d been a minor, and her grandparents had refused to take custody, her parents’ best friends, Griffin and Ellen Boyer, had petitioned for and gained custody.
Eddie had come to her room to introduce himself and said he needed to see her leg. She’d burst into tears. Instead of leaving her there, he’d sat on the bed and held her. When one of the nurses walked in and told him his actions were inappropriate, he’d told her to fuck off.
Emily had developed a huge crush on him. Eddie had been twenty-nine with jet-black hair, blue eyes, and piercings and tattoos everywhere she could see. He wore black jeans and a gray scrub top and heavy black motorcycle boots. He rode a Harley and looked hot in his motorcycle jacket.
Despite his outward appearance, he had a way with kids. His popularity with his adolescent patients, she supposed, was why he’d been allowed to flout the standard uniform of scrubs and sneakers. She’d met Eddie and Vince on the same day. She hadn’t realized it at the time, but it’d been one of the best days of her life. She wouldn’t have survived without them.
Her bus was announced over the PA. She settled into her seat and spent the next four hours writing. The trip flew by, as time did whenever she wrote, so Emily hadn’t noticed when the sun had dipped below the horizon and darkness fell. The bus pulled into the Hartford terminal at ten thirty-seven. As soon as she stepped off the bus, she saw Jeff.
“Shouldn’t you be keeping an eye on Jack?” Their gig ended at ten thirty, but they had a meet and greet afterward, so she planned on taking a cab to his hotel and settling in.
“Did you really think he’d let you take a cab?”
“We’d agreed.”
“Jack agreed because he didn’t want you to argue, but he had no intention of letting you take a cab.” Jeff’s tone suggested she should’ve known that.
“He’s in more danger than I am.” If she wasn’t so tired, she’d be pissed. He’d said he’d pay for all her travel, and apparently, that meant taking over. She’d set him straight tomorrow.
Jeff collected her bags, and within fifteen minutes, they reached the hotel. Viv waited in the lobby to let her know the meet and greet would last longer than expected. Due to a glitch on the website, double the slots had been booked, and since the band was donating all the money to the Hartford Youth Center, Emily couldn’t complain. Not that she would’ve. Jack had respected her writing time, and this was his career.
She ordered room service and changed into the T-shirt and panties she’d purchased on her lunch hour shopping trip with her coworkers Terri and Cassidy. She hoped Jack liked it since she’d purchased several sets in different colors.
After Emily finished her sandwich, she lay on the couch, reading Nicki’s manuscript.
“Hey, baby.” Jack’s soft voice roused her from sleep. He lifted her off the couch and carried her into the bedroom.
She snuggled her face into his chest. He smelled warm and spicy. “Mmm, you smell yummy. What time is it?”
Jack set her on the bed. She’d been chilly, so she’d put on the courtesy robe.
“Go to sleep. It’s after midnight.” Jack walked into the bathroom.
She’d forgotten to brush her teeth, so she forced herself to get out of bed.
They watched each other in the mirror. She managed to keep the toothpaste from spilling out. Jack stared at her in the mirror with the toothpaste running down his chin. She handed him a tissue. He let go of the toothbrush to grab it, so the brush hung loosely out of his mouth. She looked at herself in the mirror. The robe gapped at the neck, and her T-shirt peeked out. It was burgundy lace.
He spit and rinsed his mouth. “What do you have on under that robe?”
Her lips curled into a wicked grin. “Pajamas.” The thong was also burgundy. Not the most comfortable pajamas, but from the look in Jack’s eyes, she wouldn’t be wearing them much longer.
“Pajamas?”
“T-shirt and matching panties. They were in the sleepwear section, so that’s apparently what they are.” She turned to Jack. He was aroused.
His hand grasped the end of the belt, and he tugged it free; the robe fell open, and he gulped.
The short-sleeved, all-lace T-shirt ended at her waist, and the waistband of the lace thong was several inches below that. She shrugged the robe off her shoulders. Jack
scooped her up, set her on the counter, and kissed her. She stroked his cock as his hands fondled her breasts through the lace. Her nipples tightened, and she wrapped her legs around him, drawing him closer.
“I gotta fuck you now, baby.” He carried her into the bedroom and deposited her on the bed. Emily rolled onto all fours as Jack rolled on the condom.
He groaned loudly when she wiggled her ass at him. He knelt on the bed, pulled the thong aside, and stroked his cock between her swollen lips. He gripped her hips and thrust in, settling her ass against his groin. She wiggled again and he tightened his grip. “Keep that up, and it’ll be over before it starts.” He pulled out and thrust back in.
“Jaaack.”
“It drives me wild when you say my name like that.” He pounded into her.
She reached down and stroked herself but had to stop when she lost her balance. He leaned forward and kissed up her back to her neck. Emily turned her head but couldn’t quite reach his lips. Jack nibbled her earlobe and kissed below her ear, which drove her wild. “Oh yeah, that. I love that.”
She tightened around him, and her orgasm broke as Jack returned to upright and fucked her hard.
Jack grunted his release. One last thrust, and he pulled out, and Emily collapsed onto her stomach. After a few seconds, Jack spooned her, and she snuggled closer and fell into the sweet, post-sex oblivion of sleep.

Emily was trapped. She pushed whatever it was that held her, but it was too heavy. She screamed for help and kicked her legs in an attempt to break free. Pain shot through her right leg and radiated throughout her entire body. She heard the flames crackling; it was so hot, but then she was being pulled free, and she screamed again. She couldn’t leave her family.
Emily shot up. The room was black and cold, but sweat dripped down her face, her back, and between her breasts. The fear that gripped her constricted her throat, and she couldn’t breathe. She struggled to get up but arms encircled her waist, and she was pulled against something hard.
“Breathe, baby.” Jack’s baritone soothed her. “It was just a bad dream.”
Her throat loosened, and she gulped in air. Her head and leg throbbed. She had to keep her mouth open to suck in enough air.
Jack released her. “Lie back.” The bed shifted as he stood. He went into the bathroom and ran the faucet. He returned a moment later with a wet towel that he used to wipe the sweat off her face and neck. “Lift your arms.”
She did, and he removed her T-shirt and used the towel to cool her skin. Her heart pounded in her chest, slowly returning to normal. After he used the towel over her entire body, he tossed it away and pulled her back into his arms. She resisted, and Jack let her go. She wanted to get up and walk around, to remind herself that she could. Sometimes after the nightmares, her leg seemed to forget that it was healed. Emily scooted off the bed and held on to the edge for support.
The room was flooded in light. Jack watched her in silence as she made her way around the room, using the furniture to steady herself. After a minute, her leg’s memory returned, and she took a few tentative steps. She stumbled but didn’t fall. Jack darted out of bed and grabbed her around the waist. “I’ve got you baby, I won’t let you fall.”
Emily clung to him. Fuck. He was going to want to talk.
J
Watching Emily holding on to the furniture for support scared the shit out of him. When she stumbled, his heart stopped. Jack held her now. He knew she needed a minute, but he couldn’t let go yet. Too soon, Em pulled out of his arms, walked into the bathroom, and closed the door, shutting him out.
He wanted to throw something. When would she trust him enough to open up? He needed to know what was going on. Jack listened at the door but couldn’t hear anything. He hated that bathroom door. When he got his place in the city, he’d have all the bathroom doors removed so she couldn’t shut him out. Fuck it, he’d have all the interior doors removed. That way she’d have to—What? Tell him everything that was going on inside her head? Yeah, that was what he wanted. He wanted to know everything. Every damn little stinking fucking thing.
Jack was losing it. From the time they’d parted yesterday, until he’d walked into the hotel room and seen her sleeping peacefully on the couch, he’d been miserable. He’d known his feelings for her already surpassed anything he’d ever felt, but it surprised him how empty he felt without her. Yesterday, as the SUV had pulled away, Jack had felt a pulling sensation in his chest, like a part of him, his heart, stayed with her.
Jack paced the room. What the fuck was he going to do? In all fairness, they’d only met eight days ago. Only eight days. He had to find a way to deal with this situation without losing his fucking mind. He sat on the edge of the bed, his head dropping into his hands.
When the bathroom door opened, his head snapped up. Em stood there, naked except for the thong. They needed to talk, but his dick didn’t care about that. No woman had ever affected him like this. If anything, over the years, he’d realized the more women he’d slept with, the less of an effect it had on him. Sex was great, but the lack of emotional connection left him cold.
She pulled a T-shirt out of her overnight bag and put it on. It was the same one she’d worn a week ago when Jack went to her to beg her to give him a chance. Although, he hadn’t done that much begging. When she’d opened the door, she’d been surprised it was him. But then a small smile flitted across her lips. She’d been happy to see him, even if she didn’t want to be.
Em sat next to him. “I’m sorry about that.”
“About what?”
“Waking you like that. That nightmare started last night, but I guess it wasn’t finished.”
That was what she thought he cared about? “How long has this been going on?”
“A month.”
“Since…”
“Yeah.”
Her eyes looked haunted. He wanted to pull her into his arms and never let go. “Was it about the accident?”
Emily nodded and padded to the window. “I don’t want to talk about it.”
He suppressed the primal urge to go to her, hold her, and tell her everything would be okay. He’d make it okay. He took a steadying breath. “Why?”
Emily faced him. “Because we just met.”
“We’re sleeping together.” It hurt that she didn’t trust him. Jack trusted her.
“Yeah, I still can’t believe I slept with you that first night, not to mention spending a week in your hotel. It’s so unlike me. I don’t even recognize myself, butting into people’s lives: Buzz, Elliot, Todd. What the hell’s happening to me?” Emily hugged herself.
She looked lost. Okay, maybe it wasn’t a trust issue so much as the fact that for the second time in ten years her life had been turned upside down. Then throw a new relationship into the mix, especially one as intense as theirs was. “You’re feeling overwhelmed. It’s understandable.” Sitting there was the hardest thing he’d ever done. But she was talking, and if he moved, he was afraid she’d clam up.
“Ya think? I was overwhelmed before I met you. This relationship is already so big.” Emily spread her arms wide. “Overwhelmed is an understatement. At the risk of using too many adverbs, I’m gigantically, immensely, enormously fucking overwhelmed.”
He couldn’t be apart from her for another second. “Baby, you’re so brave. You rebuilt your life when you were so young. And you did an amazing job. Now, you have to do it again, but it’s more of a remodel.” When she relaxed into him, he felt a surge of love for her that he didn’t think was possible. “Thank you for giving us a chance. I meant it when I said I’ve never felt this way before. It’s overwhelming for me, too.”
“Crap. One of us needs to have their feet firmly planted on the ground. I was hoping it’d be you.” Emily yawned.
“It’s late, let’s get some sleep.” When she resisted, he turned to her. “What?”
“I’m hot.”
He waggled his brows up
and down. “Yeah, you are.”
She smiled. “Thank you, but not that kind of hot. Overheated hot.”
“Get in.” He opened the window. It was another cool night. He climbed into bed next to her and turned off the light. She was on her back, so they couldn’t cuddle. But as soon as he settled next to her, she took his hand.
He glanced at the clock. It’d been at least twenty minutes, but she hadn’t fallen asleep yet. “You okay.”
“No.”
Her answer surprised him. He’d expected her to say she was fine. At least she was being honest. “Still don’t want to talk about it?”
“It won’t help.”
“It’d help me.”
After a few seconds and a pained sigh, she said, “What do you want to know?”
He turned on his side. “Everything.”
Em turned and faced him. “I’m not comfortable with that.”
“Well, how about you tell me about your nightmare.”
“I don’t see the point in rehashing it.”
“Okay, general stuff then. Are all of them about the accident?”
“Yes.”
His relief at her answer shocked him. He was glad they weren’t about the fucker. “Is this the first time you’ve had nightmares about it?”
“No. I had them for years after the accident, but over time, it was less often, and eventually, they stopped. Until last month.”
Fuck. She hadn’t had any that he was aware of since they’d been together. “Did you have them this week?”
Several seconds of silence passed. “Yes.”
He tamped down on the anger that rose in his chest. They’d made progress this week. Little steps were better than none, but he needed more information. “Did something happen?”
“No. I’m tired. I couldn’t fall back to sleep after the nightmare yesterday.” Emily turned on her back. “These aren’t like the nightmares I had before.”
