Demetri just nodded, and Karma continued. “As for Vincent here, he murdered my family, humans who were no threat to him at all. Murdering a human is an automatic death sentence.”

Karma dropped Vincent’s head at Demetri’s feet and started to walk away. After a few steps she turned back and looked at Nevaeh.

“You can handle this one’s execution. I’m done here,” she said, then she turned back and walked away.

Karma walked straight through the White House and into the nearest bathroom. Once inside she went into a stall and was violently sick.

“It’s over,” she whispered to herself as she sat on the floor in the stall. “That part of my life is finally over.”

She leaned her head against the stall wall and just sat there on the cool floor for a while. She wasn’t sure how much time had passed when she heard a soft knock on the door.

“I’m alright,” she said softly and pushed herself to her feet. When she walked out of the stall Dylan was standing in the doorway.

“You sure about that?” He asked and raked his eyes over her. “You look exhausted.”

“What happened to me looking like a sexy, badass warrior?” She asked with a grin as she walked to the row of sinks. When she saw her reflection in the mirror she cringed. “You’re right, I do look exhausted. I also look like I’ve been in a battle for my life.”

“That’s because you were, babe,” Dylan walked up behind her and looked down at the rips in her clothes. “When he bit you, I thought you were dead.”

“For a second, I thought I was too, but what people keep forgetting is Karma is a bitch and can’t be taken down that easily.”

Dylan chuckled and kissed her already healed shoulder.

“Let’s get out of here, my sexy, badass warrior, and let the Senate handle the rest of this.”

“That is the best idea I’ve heard all day,” Karma told him, and they exited the bathroom, walked straight out the back doors, and just kept walking.

  Six Months Later

“Karma, come on. We’re going to be late.” Jackson yelled up the stairs of their new home. They’d moved into the Colonial style home just a week ago, but it was already more of a home than the apartment they’d had in D.C.

“We are not going to be late,” Karma said as she walked down the stairs. She had a meeting with the Senate in less than two hours, and Jackson was freaking out.

“It takes two hours to get there, Karma. We are never going to make it.”

“Yes, we will, because I’m driving,” she told him and grinned. “Dylan is already in D.C., so we only have to get ourselves there. Let’s go.”

“Oh shit,” was all he said as he climbed into the passenger side of her SUV and clicked his seat belt in place.

Karma laughed as she started the engine and flew out of the drive way.

They made it in an hour.

“Karma, glad you could make it,” Dristen said as he shook her hand. “We called this meeting because we have a problem.”

“What kind of problem?” Dylan asked from his seat at the table.

“There was a cargo ship stopped off the coast of Baltimore this morning. It contained almost two hundred men, women, and children. We are certain they are some that Matthews is smuggling in. They are all from Asia, and speak very little English. President Isaac wants you there.”

“Has there been any sign of Matthews?” Dylan asked.

“None at all. We have Enforcers stationed all around the country, but they have not been able to find him yet. We will though,” Ramsey said with a snarl. “For the moment, we need to check out this container ship and see what we can find out.”

“Let’s go.” Karma said and led them down to the line of Presidential SUV’s waiting for them.

An hour later they pulled into Baltimore harbor and were greeted by Agent Fuller, the leader of the Vampire Enforcement Bureau.

“Karma, Dylan, so glad you could make it. Nevaeh and the Huntresses arrived about fifteen minutes ago, and she is helping unload the cargo ship. She speaks Vietnamese, which is apparently where they are from.”

“Lead the way,” Karma said, and they followed him down the pier to where Nevaeh waited with several women and children. “Found out anything?” Karma asked her.

“Just that they were taken from different homeless shelters from around Vietnam. None of them know who took them, but we do have a description of him.”

“What does he look like?” Dylan asked as he looked around the pier and took in all the vampire and Huntresses surrounding them.

“About six feet five inches tall, medium build, dark hair and eyes. Nothing really descriptive except for a tattoo. One of the women said he had a tattoo of eyes on the top of his right hand. She said they were blue and lifeless.”

“Eyes?” Eduardo asked curiously. “Can you bring the woman who told you about the eyes over here for a minute please?”

When Nevaeh walked away, he turned to Karma. “I think I know who it is and if I’m right we are up against one of the most powerful vampire I know.”

“Who is it?” Karma asked, and Eduardo just shook his head.

“Give me a minute to verify and I’ll tell you,” he answered and waved the other elders over. When Nevaeh led the woman over to them, he slowly rolled up his sleeve. “Can you ask her if this is the tattoo she saw?”

Nevaeh turned to ask the woman, but never got the words out because the expression on her face left no room for doubt.

“I was afraid of this when you mentioned the tattoo,” Eduardo said. “We are dealing with the oldest vampire in existence. His name is Crompton, and he is my creator.”
