Bedroom eyes and rock hard abs make for yummy eye candy, but Harper knows a bad boy when she sees him. She’s been there, done that, and refuses to buy the T-shirt. Nevertheless, turning him down only fuels the fire, and his increasing charm begins to weaken her knees, as well as her resolve.

Chris stood in front of me, so close all it would take is for me to lean in just a little for my chest to touch his. And oh, how I wanted to. I could feel my legs wanting to sway forward, but so far, I’d held back the impulse. His eyes hadn’t left mine in the last few minutes since we’d been alone. And though he was so close we almost touched, we didn’t. He didn’t touch me, only looked at me with those hungry, lust filled eyes of his that were trying to drag me in with him. I was afraid to admit it was already too late.
“What you said before—”
“I’m sorry,” he interrupted. “You’re not like them. You’re not like any woman I’ve ever met. I shouldn’t have said those things to you.”
The honesty in his eyes was enough for me.
I sucked in a breath, along with some courage. “I accept your apology. And, I’m sorry too.”
He nodded, before inching just a hair closer. The air crackled around us, like a living spark.
“I’m not going to force you.” he said softly. “I’m not going to touch you, tease you, or taste you. I won’t try and convince you with my hands running softly over your supple skin. Or with my tongue licking in your most sensitive spots.”
He licked his lips, drawing my eye. My teeth ground together and my fists clenched at my sides. The deep timbre of his voice hit me right between the legs, causing me to press my thighs together just so I wouldn’t wrap them around his hips. Every muscle screamed at me to move. I couldn’t, though. I couldn’t. Could I?
“What I will do,” he murmured, “ is tell you that I want you. ’Cause I do, Harper. I want you more than I have ever wanted a woman before.”
His jaw ticked as if this fact disturbed him. I just wasn’t sure why.
“Nothing has changed, though. I can’t give you anything more than sex. Hot, intense, un-fucking-forgettable sex.”
I visibly shivered and his eyes flared.
“Ride it out with me,” he pleaded. “That quickie in the office was unbelievable, but it was nothing compared to what it will be.”
His hand lifted like he was going to touch my cheek, but at the last minute, he allowed it to fall to his side, his fist clenching. His control wasn’t any better than mine, it seemed.
“I have to know, Harper.” He swallowed hard before his lips parted on a heavy breath. “Do you have any idea what it will be like?”
“Explosive,” I breathed.
Nodding slowly, he took the tiniest step closer. If I took a deep breath, my nipples would scrape across his chest. Closing my eyes, I willed my lungs not to over fill.
“Can you tell me, honestly, that you could go through the rest of your life without experiencing that? To be in the midst of something so extreme, to feel that utterly shattered in each others arms, and walk away? I don’t know how you can. It’s a once in a lifetime thing, Harper. Not everyone is as lucky.”
He was right. I would regret it for the rest of my life if I walked away from him now. But how much more would I regret when I was left broken?
“Just sex,” I murmured, and he nodded. “Then what?” I asked.
“Nothing. We enjoy it, bask in this amazing desire, until it fizzles out, and nothing is left but the cooling embers of what was. Then we walk away, and no one gets hurt.”
“How are you so sure?”
He cupped my cheek then, and I closed my eyes as I leaned into him. I couldn’t help it. I needed to feel him, to feel the connection that would bring me back to reality. Only, when I opened my eyes, nothing had changed. This was my reality.
“Nothing lasts forever, Harper.
