A Royal Secret: Book 1 (Bad Boy Princes of Malvidence) Page 27

Algerone whipped his head around, then cursed. “Help me, Las!” he exclaimed then hurried out of Alastair’s office.

Alastair shook his head and headed after his brother, his niece tucked lovingly against his chest. His mind briefly turned to the gorgeous woman in black approaching the palace, but he put her out of his mind. He had a princess to find.

Danorian met her at the servant’s entrance at the side of the palace and gave her a once-over glance. He nodded at her before he ushed her inside, looking around to make sure they weren’t spotted. She followed him down the hallway and up the stairs until he paused right outside the door that would lead to where she needed to be. The room where her life would hopefully change forever. Her life and that of her family.

“You must succeed at this. I failed to kill Princess Valerie and her children when they arrived and was almost discovered,” Danorian told her in a harsh whisper. “This is our only chance to overthrow this family and return you and your family in their rightful positions on the throne.” He inhaled and closed his eyes, his voice growing even more solemn. “If you are discovered…”

She reached out to touch his arm, though she knew it was frowned upon. When his eyes flew to hers, she smiled. “I know what to do, Lord Danorian. Worry not.”

Danorian bowed deeply to her. “May you be successful, Princess.”

She tsked and shook her head. “That is no longer my title while I am here. Until I succeed, I am the royal nanny: Leyah.”

“Must you always be where I am?” Leyah asked him with a huff of annoyance.

Alastair chuckled and pushed away from the doorway of her bedroom. He stepped inside and closed the door behind him. “Tell me you don’t want me to be where you are and I will leave,” he said in a smooth tone.

She pushed her fists onto her hips and glared at him. “I don’t want you here.”

She wanted to scream when he did nothing but shake his head at her, his footsteps not faltering or pausing until he was only inches away from her.

“Liar,” he stated without doubt, and pulled her flush against his body, before leaning down to take her lips with his own in a bruising kiss.

Leyah couldn’t help but feel as if he were punishing her. Whether it was for lying about wanting him, or where he’d found her snooping earlier that day, as well as her feeble excuse for why she’d been there. Or maybe he was punishing her because he knew she was hiding something. Because of the fact that she was, in fact, a liar.

The guilt that gripped her heart made Leyah gasp, giving Alastair all the opening he needed to sweep inside her mouth with his tongue. She moaned, sinking into his hard body, her arms coming up to clutch his jacket. She whimpered in disappointment when he pulled away from her, one arm wrapped around her waist, while he lifted his other hand up to her face.

Leyah’s eyes slid closed as he brushed the tips of his fingers down over the side of her face, before he gripped her braids and tilted her head back. She moaned as he bit the side of her neck. When he pecked her lips and stepped away, she opened her eyes. She stared at him in confusion. He was stopping there? From what she’d heard about him, she didn’t think it was possible for him to not ravish her body if given the chance.

Alastair shook his head at her, pointing a finger in her direction. “When I take you and make you mine—because that’s what you’ll be when I do—it won’t be with you still keeping secrets from me.” He narrowed his eyes at her. “I will have all of you, or none of you, Leyah, understand?”

When she could do nothing but nod, he turned and walked out the door. Leyah’s heart sank. She wanted Alastair desperately, so much she’d forgotten her mission for a moment, but he asked too much of her. She could not give him all of her, so he would have none of her.

Even if it hurt them both.
