The tears filled her eyes.
“I love you, Quinton.”
He leaned down to kiss the mother of his child, and soon-to-be wife. “I love you, Callista Carter. I’m ready to begin our journey by your side. I’m fine with you going back to the FBI. Together, we’ll make this work, one way or another.”
She stared into his green eyes and saw nothing but bottomless love and adoration. Callie hoped that he saw the same in return.
“I’m lucky to have found you,” she declared. “I’ll do anything to keep you in my life.”
He grinned his good ol’ boy smile. “I do declare, Doctor Callista Carter, I’m going to hold you to that promise.”
She tugged on his shirt, dragging his mouth down to hers.
“You better, big guy. I’m counting on it.”
Epilogue

I t was quite the story.
“So that’s it,” she said, sipping her coffee as she stared at Elizabeth Blackhawk. “That’s how I met my husband and started the most important part of my life.”
Elizabeth grinned. “I love a happy ever after, and it seems like you got yours, Doctor Gaines.”
Callie couldn’t agree more. After getting out of the hospital, she and Quinn had packed up all their possessions and headed west. Fortunately for her, Gabe Rothschild took her back without a second thought, and even helped Quinn get a job as a detective in the neighboring town. Damascus wasn’t Myrtle Springs, but it didn't matter.
They were together.
She could work for the FBI, and he was doing what he was meant to do in life. Everything had seemed to work out, and that was perfect for her. She liked the people she worked with, including her new bosses.
They were very interesting.
“How old is your daughter now?” Elizabeth asked.
“Susie is a little over one,” she answered. “It’s tough having a toddler. The terrible two’s have come early.”
Elizabeth laughed, patting her barely obvious bump that would be showing up any day now. “You’re preaching to the choir, Doctor. Charlie here makes number four. There are days I wonder how I manage to think straight.”
Callie started laughing. “When Ethan and Callen arrive, we can start the session. I’m glad you three are going to sit down and work through all of this together as a unit.”
“Yeah, when you find love, you need to fight for it at any cost,” she said.
She couldn’t agree more. “Amen, Director.”
Both women laughed.
“Hey, Doc, one thing more,” Elizabeth began.
“Yes?”
“It’s about your brother. Do I scare the hell out of him? Last time I saw him and his partner, they looked like two school boys who got caught smoking out behind the barn,” she drawled, crossing her beat up boot over her knee.
Callie leaned forward. “Well, since we’re getting to be friends, I guess I could let you in on a secret.”
Elizabeth was dying to know. Nathaniel Carter was one of the directors who reported to the Blackhawks, and the man was skittish.
“Do tell, Callista.”
“Callie. My friends call me Callie.”
She grinned. “My friends call me Lyzee,” she offered, handing out the free invite to the girlfriend club. Since this woman had been instrumental in helping Ethan heal, it was the least she could do.
“Perfect,” Callie said.
“Now, about your brother?”
She dropped her voice low. “He’s scared shitless of you. You could have some fun with that knowledge,” she offered.
Elizabeth just grinned. “Hell yeah, I can.”
“Be gentle. He’s a control freak,” she warned.
She only laughed. “Callie, trust me. It won’t be my first day at that rodeo. I’m surrounded by out of control males.”
Both women grinned.
A friendship was born.
