There was a black folder on her desk, directly in front of her. She pressed her fingers onto it and slid it across the surface. The two looked at each other again, and both reached for it at the same time. One pulled, the other tugged, and finally, Phoenix relinquished the folder to his friend, albeit with an irritated grunt.
Jessica shook her head at the childlike behavior.
Zeke opened the folder and looked inside. He pulled out a sheet and read over it, then passed it to his partner. There were pictures inside of someone, the same person repeatedly from differing vantage points.
Zeke looked over at his friend and passed him the photos.
“Okay,” Zeke said. “I’m in. That’s not going to self-destruct is it?” He pointed at the folder in his buddy’s lap.
Phoenix looked up from the pictures. “Wait. What?”
Jessica’s lips creased and she nodded at the two. There was a nervous tension in the room, like a locker room just before the Super Bowl.
“No, it’s not going to self-destruct. Okay, Beta Force,” she turned to the wall on her right, and a screen came down from the ceiling. The lights dimmed, and a projector appeared in the center of the tiles overhead. The device flipped on, and the screen bloomed to life. “Here is your next objective.”
