He stopped pacing, faced them and said,

“War and lost technology. Before the Great Earth War we were able to open a dimensional gate and return to our home planet but why bother and for what, it was dead. When the war came and the end result was inevitable, thoughts of returning to our dead planet changed. In order to avoid the devastation of war, we built a satellite and placed the entire worldly collection of DNA in it. When all was ready to go, when all who wanted to return and rebuild our planet were lined up, a bomb destroyed our ability to get up to the satellite and our way of getting back home. All we could do was look up in the sky and see years of gathering DNA and lost hope orbit the planet. We soon lost track of its orbit and all hope of going home.”

Santo looked to Maria and wondered why she was not mentioning that they knew how to get back to their satellite. His only reasoning was that she must have a plan and so remained silent. The Alien continued,

“We sent out rescue requests to all known worlds but without result. We who greatly valued our God given creation did not want our DNA to be mixed or become extinct, so the plan was to continue waiting for rescue. Because the isolated thermal vents in this area created a local haven against the cold and ice it was selected as the new Atlantis albeit greatly diminished from the past glory.”

By this time Maria had figured out the rest and contributed,

“So, because rescue could be hundreds of years away if at all, some of you went into those capsules and entered a stasis state. Clearly over all those years some of you were programed to wake and administer to the well-being of the rest.”

  He nodded and said

“Yes, in the beginning there were 10,000 of us in stasis.

When waiting for rescue, a few would wake to guard and tend to the capsules. Before they died, they would wake up a few more and so the circle of our death continued while waiting for something that will probably never happen. There are less than half of us left now and sad to say in a few hundred years we will no longer exist. We reasoned that by now the satellite had drifted out into the voids of your universe and lost forever.”

Right in front of the alien, Maria turned to Santo and said,

“I have learned what I came for. There is no longer any need for secrecy.”

  He asked,

“Is it your intention to help them?”

She nodded, turned back to the alien and said,

“Yes. I came to learn of your intentions. I wanted to know if you were an enemy of the planet before I revealed a great secret to you. As leader of the House of the Nazarene, my mandate is to protect this planet and bring forth its true alien history.”

What she said next clearly stunned the alien.

“I know where your lost satellite is and I have your Dimensional transporter.”

He looked stunned, took a shocked step back and as in disbelief uttered,

“You have located our satellite and you have the transporter to open our portal?”

Although she knew she had reported good news, there was sternness in her reply.

“Yes, but before I give it to you and you can go home, you must tell me your intentions with the humans out in the village.”

  A compassionate voice responded,

“Yes, of course, our humans. Because only a few of us were awake at a time, we needed the help of the humans to survive. Through all these long years they are the ones who wondered into our secret location here. At the risk of being discovered and with great sorrow we could not return them. They are and always have been treated well. When we leave, naturally the dome will disappear. I suspect that many will stay and farm the land. If some wish to come with us, they would be welcome.”

Maria again looked to Santo who nodded his approval and she said to him,

  “Its heavy, you get it.”

At that command, he got up and went to the D-wing. He returned with the duffel bag and put it on the teacher’s desk. With a little difficulty he pulled out the dimensional access keyboard. Suddenly the alien moved faster than they had ever seen. It was like he leapt to it. As if to make sure that it was not an illusion he started touching it with eager hands. Once he was sure that it was real, he slowly turned to them and with a tremble said,

“Thousands of years. That is how long we have waited for it to be found. You have given us a great and valuable gift. How could we ever repay you?”

With an expressionless face she said,

  “Leave our planet.”

The Leader looked to the door where the curious still snuck peeks at them. He uttered a high pitched sound reminiscent of something a dolphin might squeal. Obeying the command and with eyes glued to the keyboard, five aliens slowly came forward. One touched it with the same reverence and disbelief of a living god. The leader turned to both humans and said,

“With this teleporter these five will transport up to the satellite and bring it home.”

One of the aliens gingerly lowered the transporter to the floor, waved his hand over it and touched the slot where Maria had inserted all the other DNA codes to access various worlds. She understood that he was accessing a portal to the Black Knight with his DNA code. Like before, a small bright dot of light appeared and slowly expanded into the size of a door. As if it were simply a door to another room, five aliens walked into the passage and disappeared.

Maria caught on right away and asked,

“So there is another teleporter on the ship them?”

“Yes,” Said the alien, “it has to produce a bigger portal than what this transporter can do in order for the ship to pass through. They are up there preparing a large dimensional gate for it now.”

Santo wondered if whatever was needed to do that was what was hidden behind the bulkheads that he could not access. He also understood that this rescue was only made possible because of Maria’s insistence of bringing the transporter down to Earth.

  Chapter 64

The old man supposedly guarding the steps leading down to the House of the Nazarene Satellite Tracking Headquarters in Desuya India was as usual sound asleep in the wobbly rattan chair. The only sound in the dilapidated building was his heavy breathing. Then, as if suddenly struck by an invisible cricket bat he suddenly jolted alert. When tired eyes bolted open and slowly focused, he understood that it must have only been a bad dream. With the understanding that all was well, he succumbed to the heat of the day and again nodded off.

Except for the green glow of numerous computer monitors in the basement, it was dark down in the Nazarene satellite tracking headquarters. The overhead lights were set on low so not to interfere with the image of the massive 3-D screen set against one wall. All Nazarene satellites were monitored from here, as were satellites pertinent to the survival of the House. This included various international military financial satellites that Ming-Lo Ching, was able to penetrate for the House and obtain operation funding.

Five people, men and woman alike had their noses pressed against computer monitors while fingers danced over the keyboards. Presha Bhat’s desk was in a far corner where she sat and monitored the information her crew was sending her. Dressed in her favorite red Sari draped over her shoulder, she heard one of her crew call to her through the earpiece.

“Something is happening to the Black Knight.”

Quickly switching over to another monitor she accessed the miniature Nazarene satellite that was assigned to track and observe its orbit. The scrolling numbers showed that it was still in its north-south polar orbit, now just over Antarctica. Because there were no discernable concerns in the numbers, she wondered what he was so excited about. She spoke into the mouthpiece,

“Talk to me Arjun, what are you seeing?”

  He reported back,

“Its orbit and height are the same but the visual from the Nazarene satellite showed that it is slowly turning.”

She quickly switched over to a visual monitor. On the screen was a perfect high definition image of the Black Knight. At first it was not evident what
had excited Arjun but on closer scrutiny she saw that it was slowly turning and rotating. Fearing that it might be maneuvering for another orbit, she yelled,

“Don’t lose it. Keep the Nazarene tracker satellite on it.”

  Arjun reported back,

“It hasn’t extended its solar panels. I don’t think it’s going anywhere. The head of the satellite is turning upward giving the impression that it’s standing up.”

  She repeated,

  “Don’t lose it.”

  Suddenly something unexplainable happened.

She grew both concerned and confused at what happened next. A ball of bright light shot out of what had been perceived to be the head of the satellite. About a hundred yards above the satellite the light stopped and just hung there suspended in mid-space. Then another ball shot out and stopped maybe a few yards away from the first. Then another and another until easily thirty balls of light formed a giant circle of light above the satellite. Stunned and not knowing what to make of it, the only order Presha could think to give was,

  “Don’t lose it.”

Light beams then shot out of each bright orb, each aimed at the one nearest the other until a circle of light was formed above the satellite. As it hovered there and glowed, except for its great size, she was reminded of the circle of light depicted in Christianity and Hinduism as a halo above a saint. Although a scientist of renown, she couldn’t get it out of her head that a halo had formed above the head of the Black Knight. Knowing something was happening and it probably wasn’t going to be good, she again yelled,

  “Don’t lose it.”

It was then that her greatest fear struck hard. The satellite started to slowly lift up toward the circular light. Like a Saint lifting off the ground and disappearing into the halo above its head, the Black Knight drifted into it and disappeared. The only image left on the screen was the blackness of space. She yelled,

  “Track it. Track it.”

But as hard as her crew tried, as fast as their fingers danced over the keys, there was nothing to track. The Black Knight had finally gone home. Presha Bhat sunk her head into her hands and said,

“Maria is not going to be happy about this.”

  Chapter 65

When seeing that the lost portal had been activated, the Atlantians who were awake sprang into action. It was a hive of frantic activity. As if by magic, or as Maria thought, by the science of an anti-gravitational field, hundreds of pods containing the suspended aliens were floated through the air and hurriedly pushed into the portal.

Standing back and watching the long train of capsules float into the portal, Maria notice that the leader had called another alien to him. When the brief conversation was done, he ran out of the cave and disappeared. Santo looked to the pods disappearing into the portal and asked the leader,

“How long before they get home?”

  The alien said,

“Once you cannot see them anymore, when they have been fully passed through the portal, they are home.”

Knowing that it would take at least a couple of hours to complete the transfer, Maria took Santo’s hand and walked him out of the cave. He asked,

  “Are we leaving already?”

“No, not yet. When the transfers are all done and the last one has left, there will be something left behind that I want to take with us.”

He knew what it was and therefore said,

“Are you worried that maybe the villagers left behind will abuse it?”

“Exactly. In the wrongs hands it’s dangerous and I don’t want it lying around.”

Standing at the mouth of the cave and looking out into the village, it was clear that the excitement back in the cave had spread to the village. The alien who had run out of the cave had talked to some villagers who had in turn spread the word. Within minutes many families carrying small children and possessions walked past Maria and into the cave. Santo understood that they had been told what was going on, that the aliens were leaving. It was clear by the smiles and excitement that these humans were pleased to follow them to another world. However, not all followed. Many decided to stay behind and live out their peaceful lives in the village.

A few hours later, the capsule chamber was empty and only a large empty cave stood witness to the secrets it had held for thousands of years. The long line of villagers who wanted to go with them had thinned out. As if it had needed much discussion for a decision, only a few stragglers now showed up. Except for the leader, all the aliens and the humans who wished to follow had gone through the portal.

Maria and Santo, plus the leader of the aliens were now the only three left standing in the cave. Understanding that the female was the leader, the alien stepped forward and pressed a small metallic disc into her hand. He explained,

“Although the distance between us will be great, with this you will be able to communicate across the dimensions with us.”

She looked in her hand and saw it. Looking back up at him, she smiled and said,

“So it’s a free long distance card huh?”

Proving that Atlantians never understood human humour, he simply nodded and wondered why she even mentioned it.

Thinking that he was now going to turn and walk through the portal, he instead seemed to go into deep thought. Finally he said,

“You said that you would do something to prevent the Russians from getting the dangerous bombs on the moon. Are you able to do that?”

Maria’s plan was simple. She sent Waldorf to Switzerland to have Dr. Marls prepare the Anunnaki ship for the trip. She explained to the alien that it would be installed with videos and explosives to blow up the armory.

He pointed a long skinny finger at her and said,

“That would not be wise. There are enough atomic weapons stockpiled there that if tampered with incorrectly will turn the moon to dust. The Earth would then have orbiting rings just like Saturn. You have to imagine what this Planet would be like without a moon.”

After going into another reflection, or as Maria saw it, trying to resolve a difficult decision, he finally said,

“If you promise to use it for the purpose of destroying the arsenal and to atone for our mistake in telling the Russians what is up there, I will give you a gift.”

He handed her what looked like a toy hand gun with a short barrel and said,

“It emits a powerful ultra-violet laser beam capable of cutting through all metals known to you. Also, like our dome, there is a rider program in the beam that will melt and delete all computerized firing programs. Simply direct the beam at what you see up there and everything will be disarmed and inoperative.”

She accepted the gun and handed it to Santo.

When all was said and done, the alien turned to them and with one finger touched his elongated forehead and then his chest. She was not sure of the communication but assumed he was saying, ‘with heart and soul’. He then turned and walked through the portal. Maria was quick to bend down and turn it off. With the blink of an eye, the portal closed. She then looked to Santo and said,

“I don’t want them coming back.”

  Chapter 66

Santo now understood why Maria had waited for all of them to leave. She knew that the last alien through the portal could not take the transporter with him, that it would be left behind. If she did not take it, it would be in the hands of the villagers and goodness knows what would happen then.

After handing it to Santo, she walked toward the D-wing. When he had caught up to her, he asked,

“What do you intend to do with it?”

“I’m not sure yet. Perhaps just hide it. I just hope they were the last of the aliens left on Earth.”

But Santo knew where there were more. He also knew what he wanted to do with it.

He put the transmitter behind the passenger seat and while climbing in said,

“I have a plan for it if you don’t mind.”

  She replied,

“I don’t care what you do with it as long as
it’s not used to bring other aliens here.”

That was not the plan. In fact, it was just the opposite. With the canopy closed and ready to drift out of the cave, he saw her smug expression and said,

  “You look full of yourself.”

  She was pleased to say,

“You bet. Think about it. We just saved a whole race of aliens and got them off this planet as well. It’s been a good day huh?”

  He smiled and said,

  “It sure has.”

While hovering above the village they looked down and saw humans talking in small groups. She understood that they were probably discussing their new lives without a benefactor. It was the same over in the fields, farm hands stood talking and pointing. She said,

“I hope everything works out for them.”

Santo had the same hopes but only nodded. With the protective shielding now gone, he wondered how many would simply risk the frozen tundra and escape, but escape to what? He hoped they would stay and live a productive life in what was once a Shangri-La.

Once high above the village and setting a GPS program for home, the D-wing proximity alarm suddenly sounded. The screen showed two Russian MiGs approaching low and fast from the far mountains. Santo was not concerned. He simply prepared to zoom high and out of reach. Just before activating that command, Maria said,
