She didn't know how long they stayed like that, but a coughing fit from Rob caught both of their attention, and they slowly, reluctantly, pulled away from each other.

Stephen turned and glared over at his boss in the doorway of the kitchen. “What?” he growled.

Rob grinned, his hands in his jean pockets as he rocked back on his boots. “Oh, nothing much. I just don't think it's appropriate to be kissing my new employee in the lobby.”

Stephen stilled and looked down at her in shock.

  “You're staying? Working here?”

Joan couldn't tell if he was happy or not about it, but she straightened her shoulders and lifted her chin, taking that final risk of rejection.

  “Yes, I am.”

She didn't have long to wait for his reaction.

With a whoop, he picked her up and swirled her around as she laughed.

Setting her back down on her feet, the room spun for a second, but his eyes stilled the world.

“I love you, Joan,” he said quietly, pulling her tight against his chest again as he gazed down upon her.

  “I love you, too.”

A grin slowly spread across his handsome face, and he didn't take his eyes off her as he addressed Rob.

“I'm taking a week off. And Joan won't be starting for a week.”

Before Rob could protest or argue about who was boss, Stephen reached down and grabbed her around her knees.

Throwing her over his shoulder, she lost her breath for a moment.

  “Stephen!”

He didn't answer her as he headed up the stairs, the blizzard a white curtain of privacy that raged outside.

No one saw them for a full week.

  Author Bio

Desiree L. Scott has been writing since she was sixteen years old. There have been many influences within her life that has set her on the path that she cannot help but walk. A few of those influences consist of Karen Rose, Lisa Gardener, Nora Roberts, Cynthia Eden, Catherine Anderson, Laura Griffin, Andrea Kane, and Lisa Jackson, just to name a few. This list by no means defines my own writing but they have indeed influenced her desire to live outside of her own world and to create the thrill of her dreams.

Desiree lives on 40 + acres in the SHOW ME state with her ten-year old daughter, with the wonderful addition of four dogs. The weather is unpredictable, but the surrounding beauty of the country helps her creativity as she sits on her top deck with her laptop and coffee close by.
