Silas (The Sutton Ranch Series Book 1) Page 10

  “Thank you, Dalton,” I whispered.

  S I L A S

Music drowned out the beer bottles clanking on the table. I shoved Nate’s hand away until Mirabelle got hers first. When everyone had theirs, I raised my bottle.

“To Mirabelle and her vision for the Sutton Ranch Equine Assisted Learning Program.” Everyone raised their beers, and we drank to my beautiful fiancée who was grinning from ear to ear.

Getting everything in order to make her dream a reality had kept her busy. After earning her certification as a Therapeutic Riding Instructor, Mirabelle had tackled the legal end of the business. The long process had been riddled with red tape, but that didn’t stop her. Now, she had a team of assistants and a speech pathologist to ensure the program was all-encompassing.

The following week would be the first time she had patients, the very first being her buddy, Darren. Word had gotten around, and she had people from several surrounding towns inquiring.

I couldn’t have been more proud of her, and all she’d accomplished, in just under six months.

“Dance with me?” She grabbed my hand and tugged me to my feet.

“Baby, you know I don’t dance well.” I wrapped her in my arms and kissed her softly on the lips, hoping to distract her.

“Okay.” She shrugged and wiggled out of my arms.

My relief ended when she turned to the table.

“Nate, will you dance with me?” Her petite hand stretched out to Nate who grinned and stood up quickly.

“Sit the fuck down, Nate,” I growled before grabbing Mirabelle’s hand, dragging her to the dance floor, and spinning her into my arms.

“Jealous much?” She giggled, then squealed as I spun her away from me and whipped her back into my arms. “And you said you didn’t dance.” She shook her head and batted her eyes at me.

“I guess I needed a good enough reason.”

“And keeping me out of Nate’s arms was one?” she asked.

“Keeping you out of anyone’s arms besides mine is a hell of a good reason.”

“Nate needs a woman of his own.” Her gaze focused over my shoulder in the cowboy’s direction.

“It’ll take a special kind of woman to break that colt.” I twirled her out again, bringing her back just as quickly.

  “Ready to go home, baby?”

“I think I’m ready to go for a ride.” She stood on her tiptoes and kissed my neck.

No other words were necessary. In one fluid motion, I scooped her up and tossed her over my shoulder like I had so many months ago. Only this time, she was laughing as the crowd parted, and I hoped like hell we’d be the talk of the town.

I was taking my girl home,

  and this time

  she was willing.

Taryn is a USA Today and Amazon Bestselling Author. She is a lover of books and wine, usually enjoying them together. Writing has been a way for her to step away from chaotic reality and live a bit through her fun and sometimes damaged characters. You will almost always find a Happy Ever After at the end of her stories. She can't help it, it's an addiction.

She enjoys spending time with her friends and family, but cherishes those quiet nights after everyone is asleep when she can curl up on the couch to read with her puppy by her side. (Shh, don't tell...He's not supposed to be on the couch.)

It has been a bit of time between my releases. I spent some much needed with my kids and husband and took some time away from the computer. Fortunately, these characters kept yelling at me, So here is the first book of three.

I have to thank my FTN gals for always being there with support, help and most of all, laughs.

A special thank you to my editor, Kathryn M. Crane, for tearing my words down and then helping me build them back up to be so much better. I swear I could hear her Southern drawl in my head with a million “Bless your Hearts” as she edited for me. I love her to pieces!

Most of all, I am so thankful for a loving and supportive husband. None of this would work without him.

  I love you, Chad.
