The bell in the church tower above him tolled the hour. He stood up and looked down at the graves.
“Goodbye, Your Majesty,” he said softly.
As Jack turned to leave, he thought he saw a hooded figure in the trees. He looked again, but it was gone.
Then he heard a voice. “Well done, Jack. You’ve cheated fate, changed history and saved a king.”
Jack smiled to himself.
He turned and slowly made his way home.
