Royal Game
I can’t believe it’s been 2 years, Ellie thought as she watched her daughter sleeping in her bed. It had been a long day and Micah was exhausted. It was her second birthday and as her mother watched the little princess lay in her bed resting after such an eventful day, she thought about Micah’s father, the man Micah would never know.
It had been almost 3 years since Ellie saw Mitch. She had met him at a baseball game, the royal family had gone to support the team that he played for.
Ellie did not really enjoy baseball, it was more of an obligation that she had to fulfill and being the good daughter that she was, she did exactly what was expected of her.
Of course, that was until she met Mitch. It was after the game, there was a celebration, the entire team was there and everyone was excited because of the win. Ellie wandered around the party, bored, but watching everyone enjoy themselves. She enjoyed watching other people, learning about them and figuring out how they interacted with others.
Mitch, had caught her attention a few times, it seemed that every time she walked by him, he was staring at her. At that time, Ellie was used to men staring at her. She was the princess after all, but more than that, she was beautiful with long black hair, bright blue eyes and skin so white she looked like an angel when the sun shone down on her.
Ellie was also a very curvy woman, her lips were plump and bright red, she was the desire of every man she came into contact with. Mitch was different, however, there was something deep in his eyes that told Ellie as much.
When most men looked at Ellie, she could see their desire, the thought of being with a princess was almost more than they could handle but not Mitch. Instead, when Ellie looked at him, he seemed confident, proud and strong.
Ellie remembered the first time they had kissed as if it had just happened. She remembered his soft but strong lips against hers and how he took control of the situation, thrusting his tongue against hers, as it slipped inside her mouth. It was Ellie’s first French kiss, creating a lasting memory for her. She often replayed that scene in her mind.
That evening, when he made love to her, she knew that he had been with many other women. She knew that whatever happened between the two of them would only be for that night and that was part of the thrill.
It was not what Ellie had intended to happen but she simply could not resist him. The two had begun talking at the party, small talk mostly when Mitch suggested a change of scenery.
“How about we get out of here,” Mitch asked, giving Ellie a sneaky grin. The way he spoke, told her that this was not a question. He wanted to get away from the party and he wanted to be alone with her.
Her heart pounded with excitement, she had never been alone with a man before, her family forbade it, but they were busy now, distracted and likely wouldn’t miss her.
Ellie slid her arm through his and the two walked out into the night. The dark was blinding to her, forcing her to squint as her eyes adjusted. She could hear the noise of the party behind them as they walked out into the garden. She began to worry that her parents would become upset with her when they found she was gone, but the smell of the roses immediately calmed her.
The garden was where she often spent time alone, it was her place to relax and think. Now it was a secret haven for her and the man that every inch of her body desired.
Looking back, she wished that her daughter had been conceived in love instead of lust, but that was the past and now was all that really mattered.
Mitch had a reputation, he was in the public eye and he was known as a playboy. He was not the type of man that was ever going to settle down and he had no problem letting Ellie know that.
“I hate to break it to you princess, but I’m not looking to be any body’s boyfriend,” he said as they sat down on the bench in the middle of the garden.
It was dark out, and there were no lights on in the garden as her parents had hoped to keep the guests out of it, but there was still the moonlight and the light from the stars which was all the two of them needed.
“What makes you think that I am looking for a boyfriend,” Ellie tried to tease.
“Have you ever even been with a man before,” he whispered in her ear as he began kissing the side of her neck.
Her breath caught in her throat, the truth was that she had not, but she didn’t want to tell him. She did not want him to think of her as some inexperienced little girl.
Ellie knew how other women in the world were, how they had multiple sexual partners, her parents always spoke angrily about these girls. She thought of them as lucky. They had the privilege of getting to know men in such a deep way and they would never be forced into marriage, the way that Ellie would.
She breathed in deeply the cool night air as his warm hands touched her body, tilting her head back, she looked up at the stars. His breath on her skin made chills run up and down her spine, and for just a little while she felt as if everything was perfect in the world.
Ellie shook her head and looked back at her daughter, she would never forget that night. As it was happening, she wished it would never end, afterward, she had wished it had never happened, then eventually, she realized it was the best thing that had ever happened to her. Micah was the love of her life and even though the pregnancy had caused some issues with the family as well as the public, Ellie would not change a thing about the past if she could.
Turning, Ellie walked out of Micah’s bedroom still thinking about Mitch, wondering where he was and if he knew he had a daughter. She found herself thinking about it more and more as Micah grew older and began asking questions about why she did not have a father like the other children.
It broke Ellie’s heart every time she thought about it and every time Micah asked. Not having any answers was the hardest part.
Ellie headed off to bed, she had big plans for the following day that involved time the park with Micah, lots of pizza and plenty of fun. Ellie loved being a mother, she loved Micah with all of her heart, but part of her wished things had worked out differently for the two of them.

The sun shone down on Ellie and Micah as they played in the park. It was a warm summer day, there were no clouds in the sky, the birds sang and Ellie listened to the children play as she watched Micah slide down the slide.
“Swing,” Micah said, excitement filling her eyes as she turned her head and saw the huge swing set. Ellie took her daughter's hand and lead her over to the swing set, picking her up, she placed her in the swing.
Ellie slid behind the swing and began pushing her daughter, as she stared off into space lost in her own thoughts. Suddenly something caught her eye, her breath caught in her chest and her heart felt as if it was going to explode. Walking across the park, looking directly at her and her daughter was Mitch.

Hey,” he said, flashing a huge smile as he approached them, “I thought that was you.”
Ellie looked at him, completely confused, unsure of what she was supposed to say to him or what he expected from her.
“I, uh,” Mitch stammered finally looking down at Micah, “I saw you as I was walking by and wanted to invite you to my game tonight but I see, you probably already have your hands full.”
Ellie looked down at Micah, still unable to speak, she simply nodded her head.
“How old is she,” Mitch asked, not taking his eyes off of the beautiful baby in the swing.
“Um,” Ellie tried to collect her thoughts, “she turned two yesterday.”
The smile on Mitch’s face began to fade as he raised his gaze to Ellie. She shook her head, suddenly it seemed as if the temperature had risen 20 degrees, sweat beaded up on her head and she felt as if she was shaking all over.
Mitch did not look any better. The color had drained from his face, his smile was completely gone.
Micah began to cry giving Ellie some relief from the moment.
“I better get her back,” Ellie mumbled quickly picking Micah up and rushing off.
“Ellie,” Mitch called behind her, but Ellie refused to turn around, “Ellie, we have to talk.”
Ellie knew he was right, but she wasn’t ready for it. She had thought about that moment since the day she had found out she was pregnant with Micah but had never really expected it to happen. She kicked herself for freezing.
Rushing home, Ellie was relieved when she remembered that Mitch had no idea where to find her. She had been sent away by her family, looked at as a disgrace, and forced to live a normal life, struggling to take care of herself and her daughter on her own.
Of course, her mother helped out on occasion. Ellie had never really understood the love that a mother had for a daughter until she had a daughter of her own and she was glad that her mother still kept in contact.
Chances were, Mitch would go to the palace looking for her. She hoped that her father would not disclose here whereabouts, but she feared that he would out of spite.
Ellie tried to relax the rest of the day, but it seemed almost impossible for her to do. All she could think about was Mitch, the father of her child and what she was going to say to him when she saw him. Yes, she wanted Micah to have a father, but Mitch just was not the type of man that would make a good father.
He was a playboy, demanding and only looking out for himself. That was not the type of father that Ellie wanted her daughter to have.
Ellie’s head ached from the stress she was having to deal with. It had been hard enough for her to be thrown out on her own to provide for her daughter, to actually have to work a job like an average person when she had grown up in a palace but having to deal with this too, it was all becoming a bit overwhelming.
She smiled at the thought of her daughter. It broke her heart to leave her every day and go to work, but Micah was an amazing little girl and never gave Ellie a problem. She was the best-behaved baby Ellie had ever met.
As Micah napped, Ellie sat on her sofa thinking about her life, her daughter, and Mitch. There was no getting around what she was going to have to face and that was telling Mitch that Micah was his. There was no question in her mind about who Micah’s father was, she had never been with anyone but Mitch, before that night or after. Facing him was one of the hardest things she would ever have to do and she knew it.
********
Ellie had begun to doze off, she had worked 50 hours the previous week and was determined to be everything to her daughter, which meant that she gave up a lot of sleep in order to spend time with her. Micah was Ellie’s life and she was determined to give Micah the life she deserved, even if it could not be in the palace.
There was a loud knock on the front door, causing Ellie to jump. Rubbing her eyes, she looked around the room, she was disappointed in herself for falling asleep but knew that her body needed the rest.
Ellie yawned as she stood and began walking to the door. She was not ready for what stood on the other side. It was Mitch and he looked more pissed off than when he lost a baseball game. His face was red, his eyes looked wild and sweat dripped down his temples.
“Do you want to tell me what the hell is going on,” he blurted out, not wasting time on pleasantries.
“Come in,” Ellie said, stepping away from the door, allowing him to walk past her.
“So you take off from the park, but now you are willing to let me in your house,” Mitch’s voice sounded stressed.
Ellie closed the door behind him, “Please, the baby is asleep,” she whispered.
“Oh, you mean my baby,” Mitch growled at Ellie as they walked into the living room, “the baby that you never told me about.”
Ellie sat down on the sofa, shaking her head, trying to figure out how she could get Mitch to understand.
“How did you expect me to tell you,” she finally blurted out, “it’s not like you stayed in touch and it was you that said you didn’t want to be anybody’s boyfriend, I assumed you didn’t want to be anybody’s daddy either.”
“You could have found me if you wanted, it’s not like I went into hiding,” Mitch snapped back. He was pacing the floor. Ellie could see that his muscles were tense as they bulged through his shirt and reminded her of their one night together.
He was right, Ellie knew it, if she really wanted him to know, she would have been able to find him, but the truth was, she didn’t want him to know.
“You’re right,” she finally spoke up, feeling as if she was a child being scolded by her father, “I didn’t want you to know. I didn’t want you to feel like you were obligated to one of the women you spent a single night with. We both knew that it meant nothing. You and I were both just looking for a bit of excitement in our lives.”
“Don’t you think I should have been given the choice at least,” he said, finally sitting down and placing his head in his hands, “all this time, I had a daughter and didn’t even know.”
“It doesn’t matter,” Ellie replied, trying to sound brave, “we don’t need anything from you. You can go on with your life and forget that any of this ever happened.”
Mitch looked up at Ellie, she could see the pain in his eyes, pain that she had not meant to cause but had caused it all the same. She had never thought of Mitch as a man with feelings, just one that cared about himself. Seeing the pain in his eyes made her feel terrible for what she had done to him, even though he was a complete ass most of the time, he did not deserve that type of pain.
Mitch stood and walked to the door of Ellie’s house. “You’re not going to keep her away from me Ellie,” he said, turning back to her, “I don’t care what I have to do, I have the right to know her.”
Anger filled him and Ellie could see it and she knew that he was going to do whatever he needed to do in order to see Micah.
“Her name is Micah,” Ellie replied softly, walking up to Mitch as he stood at the door.
“What you have done is very wrong, Ellie,” he growled softly, causing every part of her skin to tingle, “you are going to have to do a lot of making up to make it right.”
Mitch reached out and grabbed Ellie by the arm, pushing her up against the wall and pressing his body firmly against hers. He held her arms down and looked into her eyes. His were dark and full of mystery, but Ellie knew that he was serious.
“She is my life,” Ellie struggled to say.
Mitch took a deep breath and pressed his lips hard against Ellie’s taking her completely off guard. Ellie inhaled deeply, his scent causing her senses to go wild. The feeling of his hands wrapped around her wrists made her feel as if she had no control of the situation and as much as she hated to admit it, she loved it.
She thought back to the first time she had kissed him. It had been softer and he had been gentler with her. Now, it was as if he was a completely different person and she could feel the anger that he had inside of him as he pressed his lips against her
s.
“Do you think that I just forgot about you,” he asked, his breath teasing her neck causing goose bumps to form.
Ellie tightened the muscles in her body, she had never considered that he had ever thought about her. She had read about him in the tabloids, how he was always seen with different women but never had she imagined he even remembered their night together.
Mitch released her wrists, his hands began sliding up her arms as he, pushing her even harder against the wall, “I expect you to let me see my daughter,” he whispered in her ear.
Ellie nodded her head. Her heart raced, she was not afraid of him, but she knew that he was serious and he was right, it was time for Micah to meet him.
“Don’t hurt her,” Ellie whispered back, causing Mitch to jerk back.
