He stared at her in blank wonder so long she thought he must be getting ready to attack her. If he did, she would deal with it. She just couldn’t face that deafening silence. All at once, he sank onto the bed next to her. “You, too?”
Her head shot up. “What?”
“I felt that way, too. I knew you were my enemy. I knew you were the kingpin of the whole bear-baiting thing, but I couldn’t hate you like I wanted to, like I knew I should. I couldn’t make you my enemy. I don’t understand it, but that’s the way it is. I feel the same way you do.”
She peered into his face at close range. “What are we going to do?”
“I have no idea. I wish I knew.”
She swallowed the lump in her throat. “We’re both ruined. There’s nothing we can do.”
“There is one person we could ask, someone who would help us.”
“Who?”
“Melody. She’s been through it herself. If there’s anything anyone can do, she’ll do it.”
Raven turned away. “No. Not her.”
“Why not? She’s my sister, and she’s mated to a Midnight. She’s the only person on the planet who’s been through this before us.”
Raven hung her head. “You don’t know…I gave her such a hard time. I couldn’t go to her for help now. I…I would be ashamed to face her.”
He took her hand. His warm fingers chased away the chill creeping over her heart. “It’s all right. We’ll figure something out.”
Raven whipped around. She held her breath studying his face. “Are you sure it’s all right? You’re not mad at me for what I did?”
He shrugged. “You did what you thought you had to do. You told me about it. That’s the important thing. You stopped me from going out there.”
She gasped. “Really? Do you really believe me?”
“Why shouldn’t I believe you? You wouldn’t have told me if you didn’t really care. You put a lot on the line telling me the truth. I won’t forget that.”
She clutched at his hand. She couldn’t get the words out fast enough. “Oh, Azer! You don’t know what it means that you believe me and you trust me. I thought you would turn your back on me forever. I thought you would walk away and never speak to me again. I…I didn’t know what would happen. You don’t know how happy I am.”
She lurched forward to kiss him. He held firm and pushed back against her mouth. “Of course, I believe you. You showed me we aren’t enemies after all. You protected me. That counts for a lot.”
“So…what are we going to do about my uncles? They’re out there waiting for you right now.”
He put his arms around her. “We’re not out there yet. We’re still in here, and we’re together. They can’t hurt us as long as we’re in this room.”
She could trust those arms around her now. She didn’t have to think about anything outside this room. He felt the same way. He didn’t want to hate her or fight her or kill her. He cared about her. He wanted them to face this rotten situation together.
She rested her head on his shoulder, and his presence comforted her. Fate might smash her to pieces against the rocks, but he was here. His lips pressed into her hair. His breath warmed her scalp. Nothing bad could happen to her as long as she stayed near him.
How did she manage to turn against her people, her business, her Moraine in such a short time? How could this man, this bear, dig into her heart like this? How could he occupy her every thought and concern so she never cared about anything else but being with him?
She didn’t know how it happened, but it happened. She was here, in his arms, and she never wanted to be anywhere else. He was all hers, and she would defend him with her life. She would turn all her energy against anyone who tried to take him away from her.
His palm rested on her cheek. His fingers squirmed into her hair. He guided her mouth up to his, but the raving need no longer bothered her. She could give in to that inevitable force bringing them together. She didn’t have to lie or pretend or put on an act. She could be just her. She wanted him, and that was no act.
The seething fermented tension racking his muscled body no longer stretched him tight to snap. He eased into their kiss.He didn’t fight to get away, to rip his lips aside in wretched agony. He gave in the same way she did. Now nothing held them apart.
He held onto her and tipped over backward. They toppled onto the bed, and he pulled her down on top of him. Their lips would never come apart again, not as long as they lived. The same repulsive power that ripped them apart now bound them together—for life.
Raven sucked in her breath at those words. How could she give herself to anyone for life? She didn’t give herself to him. That was the overwhelming reality. She never did any of it. It happened all by itself, with no help from either of them. It happened against their will, with both of them fighting it all the way.
She lay on the bed at his side and sank into the tender bliss of his lips. She closed her eyes and folded him in her arms. She had nothing more to worry about. She could let go of the ring and her family and tomorrow. She had him for tonight, and that was enough.
Chapter 14
Raven’s mouth fell open when Azer flipped her over on her back. He rolled on top of her, and his powerful bulk crushed her into the mattress. She gasped for breath, but he didn’t move. He stroked her hair off her forehead and stared deep into her eyes.
What did he see when he looked at her like that? Did he see a bear-baiter? Did he see a girl or a panther? His lips discovered her darkest secrets when he let them droop off her mouth in languid kisses. Every delectable kiss quivered through her and rang against the world around them.
His muscles contracted all the way down his frame, from his neck, down his chest to his stomach. His hips shoved into her down there in the soggy morass of her swollen tissues. He bucked her the same way she bucked him just a few minutes before. He attacked her damp nest to wake her from her slumber.
Her eyes widened. Could he really be suggesting that, after everything that happened? She couldn’t doubt it. His face told her everything she needed to know. He measured her reaction, her pupils dilating, her lips panting against his mouth, the shudder passing through her. She wanted it. She ached for it the same way he did.
They matched each other in burning desire to come together. One couldn’t mate for life without the other. That didn’t happen. They belonged together, and their destiny wouldn’t leave them alone until they did it.
She didn’t care anymore. She belonged to him and only him. She wouldn’t leave this room until fate sealed them together for all eternity. Whatever happened after they left here could take care of itself.
For now, nothing existed but those eyes drilling a hole in her being. His rock hard body broke her legs apart, and the next time he arched his hips into her, her thighs separated to let him in.
His prick surged against his pants as never before. The sharp point dug in hard against her crease and pumped the juice into her panties. She sighed in his arms. Nothing could be so right as that saturated desire brimming from her deepest self. The wild called her to want him, to desire him and respond to him. Her flesh wept to receive him. She couldn’t wait to welcome him inside.
He relaxed into her. He could take his time and work her into a steaming frenzy. He could ripple his granite body along her front to awaken her desires. He would simmer her to foaming creamy intoxication, and he would still be there to answer her howling need with his own solid mass.
Her legs grappled around his waist. She tightened him into her so his driving prick tore her sensitive tissues. She couldn’t get enough of him. Her skin hungered for contact with his. She clawed his shirt down his back in desperate agony to get her teeth into that skin.
He rolled sideways to lie down next to her. Their legs understood how to fit together. One of his thighs wedged up against her crotch, and she rode down on that chiseled limb. Their hip slotted together in blissful perfection. Nothing remained but to get rid of the pesky clothes an
noying them both.
Raven’s fingernails caught his T-shirt. It came free from his pants, and she dove under the beaten cotton. Oh, his delicious skin! She stroked up and down his stomach and his chest. She burrowed into his armpits and scratched his back until he mewed in pain.
His stomach tensed when she tickled down to his belt. She tugged his buckle and enjoyed the sweet tightness of his prick hidden underneath. She petted over the zipper and followed the rigid shaft where it stuck up inside his briefs. Her whole heart went out to that wicked snake hunting her. She would teach it what hunting was all about.
His mouth sagged open. He didn’t return her kiss now. He stared into her eyes in shocked wonder. He wheezed through his teeth when she traced down his nuts. His stomach contracted to press that animal into her mons.
She got so absorbed stroking him she didn’t notice his hand inching toward her chest. She squeaked in surprise when he twisted her nipple. She doubled over in startled pain, and her hand clamped down on his prick for support. Both their eyes started wide open.
The next moment, fresh surges of delirious delight rocketed them together. All the gentle togetherness blew away on a dandelion puff. They assaulted each other with hands and teeth and tongues and legs.
Azer twisted her breast in one beefy hand. He pinched her nipple until the excited whines grated from her throat. Raven plunged one hand into his pants to release that raging monster from its cage. Her hand closed around the shaft, and she rubbed its damp head against her own pants.
Azer wouldn’t be satisfied playing with her breasts anymore. He ripped her shirt out of her waistband and shoved it up to her armpits. He yanked down her bra to expose her bare globes. He palmed them together and warmed them one against the other.
Raven heaved into his hands. The more his hands filled her with his manly heat, the faster her own hand moved along his shaft. He convulsed with every stroke.
She had to get that thing closer to her. She had to rip away every barrier keeping them apart. She unfastened his pants the rest of the way and slid them down his hips. He kicked them away, and the serpent aimed straight at her.
She couldn’t think. She could only hang onto that handle and hope for the best. He occupied himself with her breasts. He wasn’t coming closer any faster. She had no choice but to take matters into her own hands. She peeled off her shirt and unhooked her bra.
The moment she got rid of them, Azer burst into action, too. He mouthed down her neck to those pendulous breasts lying ready and ripe in his hands. He pushed one into his mouth. His free hand caught her under the chin and craned her head out of the way.
Raven panted and sobbed, but she could only melt into his masterful hands. Her flesh yearned for completion in him and around him and through him. She would give anything to surround him with her engorged frills and hug him ‘til he collapsed.
He fingered down her chest to that dark secret between her legs. He took a big handful and tortured her to squealing distraction. She couldn’t stand it. She unhooked her leg from around his hips so she could slide her pants off.
The air touched her flaming petals. His fingers discovered that bubbling inferno, but he wouldn’t let her roll back toward him to engage her hips against his. He pushed her away even as his lips kept his inexorable lock on her mouth.
Raven couldn’t think straight to counteract his powerful demands. He turned her around, and his hand guided her leg over his hip. He dug his fingers into her slit and pushed her ass back against him.
She moaned in glorious ecstasy. She was putty in his hands, just the way she said he would be in hers. She gave under his steady pressure until she moved where he wanted her to move.
He gazed into her eyes while his fingers stirred her honey pot hotter and foamier than ever. She pulsed against his hand and bumped her ass back against his prick. He stroked his long inches between her butt cheeks and nuzzled into her from behind.
She never wanted anything like she wanted him. She howled into his mouth and begged with her eyes. She begged for him. He couldn’t come close enough or take her fast and hard enough. No part of him would ever be enough.
He circled his fingers between her folds and spread the juicy honey over her molten flesh. His hardened manhood plowed between her legs and joined the squishy cauldron where her thighs met. Her head buzzed in mesmerizing fury. She matched his rhythm, his stroking length screwing into her. Oh, Jesus, this couldn’t be happening.
But it was. It was happening just the way she wanted it to happen. He strapped his cut arms around her chest and hugged her against him, right where he could reach her. He guided her hips back to meet him, and his fingers showed her the throbbing beat of his strokes.
Explosive torrents of climactic ecstasy tore her to pieces, but Azer was only getting started. His taut rod worked into her dripping hole, and the two species of stimulation working inside and outside blasted Raven apart. She threw her head back against his shoulder. Her body quaked and convulsed. Her juices dribbled down his shaft and bathed his fingers, but he only pumped faster, deeper. He banged the delicious spots along her channel until she couldn’t stand it.
She thrashed herself out of his arms. She fought her way forward until he couldn’t touch her, but nothing could break the seal holding their bodies front to back. He let her go and grabbed her hips. He pushed her over onto her chest.
One mighty hand slid under her hair to grasp behind her neck. He shoved her chest down on the bed while he held her hips back where he could get at them. She could never get away from his dominance.
He stuffed his swollen tool as far as it would go into her roiling cavern, but she didn’t fight it anymore. She could only cry and weep and fall under the mountain of man taking her farther than she ever went before.
She buried her face in the quilt and screamed her climaxes to no one. Azer could hear her, and her noises drove him into a frenzy. He pounded ten times harder, and his fingers tightened their grip on her willing flesh. No one else in the world could hear her. She didn’t want them to hear. She didn’t want anyone to know how he devastated her, how he took her apart, one orgasm at a time and put her back together again into a completely different person.
She collapsed onto her face, and his monstrous body rolled over on top of her. He never stopped pumping. His arms clamped around her body and his muscles undulated all the way down her back to cram his hips into her upturned ass.
Her body wouldn’t obey her. She couldn’t escape. His driving prick commanded her to arch her spine back to meet him. His unstoppable arms crushed her against him. His spike hammered the sweetest spots inside her to bounce her into climaxes beyond her wildest dreams.
Every way he turned her, she peaked, crashed into nothing, and peaked again. She rode his engorged steed to devastating heights, and his stiff prick never let her fall back down.
Just when she thought she couldn’t take any more, he slithered out. A gurgle of juice flowed down her thighs. His weight lifted off her, and air rushed into her lungs. She could breathe again. She could rest from this racking tension.
He rose on all fours above her and flipped her over. Before she could react, he inched between her sodden legs. His dripping spike found her tender opening, and he glided inside. She couldn’t stop him. Nothing could stop him.
He rotated his hips to screw it in. Raven gaped up at his smoldering face. He knew exactly what he was doing to her, and he wouldn’t stop. He nodded down into her startled eyes. One slippery inch after another, he worked his cream-slathered shaft into her channel. His tight head tickled her all down her length to her very insides.
He crouched over her and fingered the hair framing her face. He thrust against her bones to knock her out of the water. He scraped her delicate flesh with his wiry hair, and his driving cock struck deep beside her cervix.
Raven surged up and back down on that pounding rhythm. She gyrated her hips to wind him inside. She leapt from one side to another. Every new place he touched sparked fresh expl
osions through her body. Fireworks burst in front of her eyes. She couldn’t stand this. She wanted it. She needed it. She hated it. She feared it.
The mind-blowing intensity destroyed her world and left her gasping and sobbing for mercy. How could this happen? How could she experience this much sensation and live? Her system overloaded until she soared in endless pleasure clouds without touching the earth.
No one would believe the change she underwent in that bedroom. She ceased to be Midnight. She ceased to be Raven Faulkner. She let everything fall away and became pure unadulterated joy. Golden light filled her from one end to the other—or was that his spiky hot jizz rocketing to her core?
What was the difference, after all? She could be golden light. She could be a receptacle for his spunky sauce, and she could have it all. She could let all her dreams come true, as long as she had him.
Chapter 15
Raven snuggled into Azer’s arms. “We should get going.”
He stiffened under her. “We?”
She pillowed her head on his bicep. “I want you to do me a favor.”
“Are you sure I’ll be doing you a favor and not myself?”
“You’ll be doing us both a favor, but it will set my mind at ease.”
“What is it?”
“I want you to leave town.”
His head shot up. His fingers caught a handful of her hair to yank her head back, even though he couldn’t see her in the dark. “What?”
She sighed. “I know, but it’s the only way. I want you to get on the first bus back to Iron Bark. I want you to leave Midnight Moraine and never come back.”
He let her sink back into her place. “I suppose I expected this.”
“You’ll be safe. Don’t you see? As long as you’re here, you’re in danger.”
