Great for Now (Book Two of The Now Series) Page 19

by Ryan, Rebecca J

“Good, she is due to leave tomorrow morning to a rehab facility.”

“Great news,” I say, “Well, I’ll be on my way.”

Walking down the hallway I wonder if Julie knows Ms. Joan will be leaving tomorrow morning. I know she mentioned Joan would be going to the rehab place, but again, I have been so tired with all that has been going on.

Joan’s door is open, I walk in to see her watching TV, she is laughing. However, she turns when she sees me.

  “Hi.”

“Hi Ms.Joan, I don’t know if you remember me, but I am Bo.

“Of course I remember you, you are Julie’s friend.”

I grin, I wanted to correct her and say boy friend but I did not come here to upset her.

  “Yes, I am.”

“When is she coming by? I know she came by earlier but I was asleep. Tell her that I want to go home, I miss my garden.”

“I’m sure it misses you too.”

Ms. Joan drops her head, “I just can’t stand being here. I really hate it here. The bed is awful and I’m tell you they want me dead.”

I smile, agreeing with most of what she said, however, I would never let her know this.

“Well I hear you are about to leave, to go to a rehab place to get better. Then you’ll be back home.”

“No, I’m not. I’m going home.”

Shit, why did I have to say that, I could see her heart rate elevating on the machine next to her.

  “Don’t push yourself.”

“Well I got to get home, because that girl who came to me when I was gardening is coming back.”

  “What girl?”

“The one who screamed at me…” Joan says, stopping mid-sentence. She covers her face with her hands, hiding from me.

“Why did she scream at you?”

She starts sobbing, “She said she knew where my daughter was.”

  “You have a daughter?”

“Yes, I do, but I thought she was dead. She went sailing ten years ago and never returned.”

She goes on to tell me that she arranged for the sailing trip with her friend and the boat capsized. I have heard sad stories my whole life, but this was one of the top saddest ones.

  “What is your daughter’s name?”

  “Ali Craft.”

  “Is Ali short for Alison?”

“Yes, see I have to go back. I have to give the lady the money, but I was a bad mother.”

  “No, that can’t be.”

“Well that is what the lady said Ali told her. She came to me because she felt sorry for me.

I was feeling like this lady who stopped by Ms. Joan was a fake, and I was going to find out.

“Well, I am going to check this out for you, so don’t get upset. You need to get better.”

  “You will?” Ms. Joan asks.

“Well I will, consider it done.”

“Do you remember the lady’s name?”

“No, I’m afraid not, but I do have her phone number. It’s in my purse.”

“Alright, can I look inside it?”

“Yes, and Officer,” Ms. Joan calls.

I wait to see if Ms. Joan will continue her train of thought.

“I am getting tired, please come by tomorrow with Julie.”

  “Will do.”

I walk to side table, but there isn’t a purse. I look over to Ms. Joan and she is sleeping.

Taking a deep breath, asking about her purse will have to wait until tomorrow.

I drive by Julie’s house again and that is when I see the blue BMW parked in her driveway. His ass is mine.

  Chapter 68

  Julie

Walking out of the office, I see Heather texting and smiling. She’s probably texting her new love. I smile, finding it so cute. I just hope her ex, has moved on, letting her live her life.

I bend down and wave at her, “See yah,” I say. “I’m off, but I will be back.”

She looks up, “Caught me texting.”

  “Text away…”

“I really can’t wait for you to meet him, he is stopping by tomorrow.”

“I know, how exciting. Can’t wait to see this man, and I’ll be asking him a few questions, just to make sure he is good.”

  Heather’s face drops, “Really?”

I shake my head, “Of course not, if he makes you happy. I say go for it.”

  “Girl, you are too much.”

I take a deep breath, “I got to go, but if anything comes up, text me.”

  “Alright boss, I will.”

I’m really excited to see Violet. I wonder if her eyes will bulge out when I tell her what has been happening? She is always so calm.

Driving to her office, James calls.

“Hi, is everything alright?” I ask, feeling my stomach up to my throat.

“You hit it on the nail Julie, he’s toast.”

I pull over to hear what he meant by that and I have never been so relieved in my life.

I get back on the road, wanting to speed through the traffic to get to Violet’s.

  Bo texts, “It’s over.”

Tears stream down my face, because I know exactly what he means in those two simple words.

“Julie, it’s been a while,” Violet says, she lets out a smile, her legs crossed, looking debonair.

  “It has.”

“I’m sorry I couldn’t see you when you called last week.”

I smile, “It’s alright. I’m glad I am here now.”

“I must say Julie, you look different than I ever remember seeing you.”

I smile, thinking how attentive she is.

I let out a long sigh, feeling like I am finally who I am meant to be.

“Anything to cause this change in you?”

“Yes,” I say, hardly able to let the word out. My eyes start to burn, feeling the tears build up.

Violet gets up and sits next to me. She touches my back, her fingers going up and down to comfort me. “You know it’s good to cry.”

I smile, yet still the tears rush down. However, they are tears of joy.

Five minutes pass, feeling like hours, when I feel I can finally talk.

“Well, about ten days ago, Kevin came back in town.”

Violet’s poker face, looks at me. I can’t tell what she is thinking but her eyes do not look away. Nor does she get up to get her notebook to write notes.

  “Did you see him?”

“I had no choice, he always seemed to show up where ever I was,” I say, feeling like the floor was just pulled from under me.

I begin to wonder if it was Kevin’s doing that we kept on bumping into each other in law school, instead of fate as I thought.

“Well, he wanted to get back together, saying how he wanted a second chance.”

  “I see.”

“But this time I didn’t want to, which caused him to want me more.”

  “What did you do?”

“I didn’t give in, yet I still kept talking to him, hoping if I let him down gently he would get the hint. Yet it turned ugly and in the mist of this I met someone who I really like,” I say.

Violet manages to keep the same look, “Really, well that is great. How did you meet him?” Violet asks.

I smile, “Do you want the X-rated version or the clean cut version.”

She breaks a smile and questions what I mean by the X-rated version.

“Well, I met him a few days before Kevin came back in town and we sort of hit it off.”

I then gave her a few details of that day, she squinted her eyes a few times.

“That proves that you really didn’t have a problem with intimacy, but Kevin. In most cases it is fifty, fifty.”

“Really? So I was just not comfortable with Kevin.”

I would have to say so, even when we are attractive to someone. Our inner self can see what the eye can’t, and that is why there is confusion.”

I shake my head, this all made sense, and it had to be the reason why I never felt comfort
able around Kevin.

“Well, I think you are finally free of him.”

“Yes, in more ways than one.”

“So happy for you Julie, you stayed true to your recovery, listening to your gut and it all came together for you.”

“I owe it all to you,” I say.

“No, you were just a good patient.”

“Well, thank you. However, don’t think you are getting rid of me this easy.”

  Violet grins, “Of course, not.”

“I will need maintenance sessions to keep me on this good path.”

Violet hugs me and I hug her back, crying out my heart at how happy I am.

I return to the office, Heather is on the phone. She hands me a few messages. Walking in my office, I smile, knowing that Kevin will never call me again. He’s in custody, not only for the charges he was running away from, but for Robert’s death. After James listened to the audio of the lunch I had with Kevin at Speakeasy. James contacted the authorities and had the brakes pulled out and fingerprinted. Kevin’s finger prints were on them.

I text Bo, “Are we still on for tonight?”

“Yes, we are, and how we will be.”

I smile, he really is my fantasy man, come to life.

I want to read you an entry from my journal, about a year ago.

Bo sits on the bed, his face becomes serious.

“I went to bed feeling incredibly lonely, missing a warm body.”

I look at Bo, his eyes fixed on me.

“The only person here is my fantasy man, Candy Cop.”

He has dark brown eyes, brown hair and he is oh so built. I start to think he is real. I smile, feeling my hand slide between my legs.”

Bo edges closer to me, “Read more.”

“I move my hand to my hip, feeling it slide down to my knee, going back up to my private. Slowly my hand rises to the most sensitive and pleasurable spot.”

Bo has his hand on my upper thigh, feeling the want in his touch.

“I imagine Candy Cop, staring in my eyes. His pupils, looking at me with desire. I think of him, touching my body. He is my hand, now caressing every inch of my flesh.”

  “More.”

“My private is wet and juicy for him.”

Bo rises his hand up my shirt, I stop reading and look in his eyes. We both lean in to kiss each other, the rest of my journal entry will never compare to what is happening now.
