The Beast 3: Old Ways, New Days Page 5

by Renee George

His words were cut short as Nathan slipped his lips over the head of Guillermo’s cock, abruptly taking him into his mouth. Nathan swallowed once, then again, his throat undulating over the bulbous glans as the silky shaft slid over his tongue.

“Madre Dios.” Guillermo began to shake. “I fear you overwhelm my senses, amor. I do not think I can stand.”

Nathan stroked Gui’s cock with his mouth at a slow sensual pace as he wrapped his arms around his lover’s thighs, lifting him effortlessly. He carried Guillermo to the desk, and sat him down without once varying the rhythm of his sucking.

Without his normal Latin flair, Guillermo grunted his appreciation.

The fact he could reduce Gui to primal noises excited Nathan even more. He licked Gui’s cock, teasing up and down the engorged shaft from tip to base. Splaying his fingers across Gui’s thighs, Nathan spread his lover’s legs and fondled the master vampire’s sac. He was rewarded with the taste of pre-cum dancing across his tongue.

Guillermo thrust forward, driving his cock to the back of Nathan’s throat. The master vampire’s abdomen rippled with each frontward drive of his hips. He matched Guillermo’s rhythm, sucking him harder with each heaving lunge.

Guillermo tried to pull him up his body, but Nathan stayed where he was, on his knees, between his lover’s legs. He wanted Gui to come in his mouth. The master vampire always tried to take control before that would happen -- to either fuck Nathan or allow himself to be fucked. Nathan took control now. Guillermo’s cock slid out of his mouth with a pop.

“I want to taste you, Gui. I want you to come for me.” Nathan’s lips, tongue and teeth went back to their fierce ministrations of Guillermo’s silky, hard cock. He slicked his fingers with saliva and slipped them past Gui’s testicles to his anus. Nathan’s fingers toyed with Gui’s ass and balls while he moved his mouth up and down the unyielding shaft.

“You bring me so much pleasure.” Guillermo panted out the words, his voice tight and heady.

Nathan took Gui to the back of his throat again, swallowing hard for extra movement. Guillermo bucked forward, his cock growing enormously rigid. “Madre Dios!” he cried out. His back bowed, then shuddered, as creamy semen pumped from his cock. Nathan sucked the salty fluids until Gui’s shuddering subsided. He wiped the spit from the outside of his mouth, then stood to meet Guillermo in a fierce kiss. Their tongues met like dancing swords.

  “You amaze me, mi amante.”

Nathan turned in Guillermo’s arms and leaned his head back onto Gui’s shoulder. “Give me a second and I’ll amaze you again.” He smiled. It was short lived.

There was a knock at the door. It opened before Guillermo or Nathan could say a word.

Tyr walked in wearing a three-piece, blue pinstripe suit with his hair tied back. “Looks like we got here just in time.” Nadine followed closely behind.

Nathan stood in front of Guillermo, almost protectively. Next to Tyr, Nadine had her arms crossed and was tapping a spiked heel against the floor.

She shook her head in disgust. “You two are like freaking bunnies. It’s a good thing you can’t actually propagate.”

“Hand me my clothes, chica.” Guillermo glared at Tyr. “What are you doing here?”

Tyr rolled his eyes. “Ask Nathan.”

Nathan looked at a loss. “I… well… you needed a lawyer.” As if that would explain everything. “I figured Tyr might know someone, being Min’s right-hand and all.” Nathan threw his clothes on, uncomfortable with the way Tyr was looking at him, and the way in which Guillermo was responding to the way Tyr was looking at him.

Nadine picked up Guillermo’s clothes and handed them to him. “I’m in jail. And you’re here fucking the boy toy. How nice for you.” Something in Gui’s eyes made her stop. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean that.”

“Yes, you did.” Guillermo waved her off. “But no matter. Where is this lawyer, so we can settle up.”

Tyr stepped forward and held out his hand. “I get $250 an hour. But for you, I’ll make it an even grand.”

  “Impossible. You are no lawyer.”

Tyr held out his business card. Tyr Madison, Attorney at Law. “Twelve years of correspondence courses. I took my exams back in 1982. Actually, I was a top scorer and received offers from quite a few law firms. But, alas, I have this condition that prevents me from practicing during the day. I’m good though.” Tyr winked at Nathan. “Definitely worth the money.”

“He had me out pretty quick.” Nadine crossed the room. “His size may say ‘big and dumb’ but he’s got the smarts.”

  “Enough, chica!”

“Hey, don’t shoot the messenger. He’s a good lawyer.” She shrugged. “I’m just saying.”

Guillermo cleared his throat, dug in the top drawer of his desk, and pulled out a thousand dollars in smaller bills. “Here.” He handed the wad to Tyr. “You may go. Your services are no longer required.”

“Fine by me.” Tyr checked his watch. “Nathan, we’d better go. We’re going to be late.”

Nathan raised an eyebrow. “Late for what?”

  “Dinner with Nan.”

“My moth… Oh crap! I forgot to call and cancel.”

“She called right after you left and invited me to tag along.” He held up the money Gui had paid him and smiled. “My treat.”

Nathan snaked a look at Guillermo. The master vampire did not look happy. “Uh, well, I guess we should…”

“Great!” Tyr clapped him on the shoulder. “I’ve got your car waiting. We should head on out.”

“My car?” Nathan didn’t own a car. Living downtown, he had the benefit of being a short taxi ride from nearly anywhere he wanted to go.

“Yep. It was Min’s. Now, it’s yours.”

Guillermo moved between Tyr and Nathan. “Un momento. You --” He poked his finger toward Tyr. “-- are not going anywhere with Nathaniel.”

“Sorry, sport. I got an invite and Nan will be none too happy if I don’t show up.”

Nadine threw her arms up in the air. “Oh, for Christ’s sake, you all are a bunch of women.” She nodded to Gui. “Catch you later, boss man. I’m going out on the floor to work before the catfight breaks out.”

Nathan backed toward the door. “Look. How about if I just go meet my mom and talk to you all later?”

“Well, if you order me to stay behind, I will have to. But can I just remind you that Nan invited me.”

  Shit-fuck-piss-hate. “Fine. You can come.”

Guillermo grabbed a leather jacket from his coat rack. “If Madds is going, then so am I.”

Nathan thought about arguing, but to what end. “Okay. Whatever. Let’s just go.” Before they could get through the door, Nathan stopped both vampires. “And just so we’re all on the same page, Nan thinks I’m a totally heterosexual mortal. I’d like to keep it that way.”

Gui, if possible, seemed a bit hurt. Too bad. Tyr merely inclined his head and muttered, “Understood.”

  Chapter 6

Nan sat patiently at a table near the window, wearing a sparkly purple top and lavender slacks. She seemed to be contently tapping her way through the piano player’s rendition of “Dream a Little Dream.” Nathan sent Tyr and Gui to the bar to give him a minute. He watched her from across the room. Nathan truly loved his mother -- even when she smothered him.

His father had died when he was three years old and Nan had raised him on her own. She’d worked two jobs while still managing to find time to make his games, attend teacher meetings, and assure that he got a quality education. She never brought strange men to their home and Nathan could tell, even as a young boy, Nan was lonely. She never complained.

Since becoming a vampire, he’d separated himself from her. Not completely, but enough. How could he tell her that the one thing she lived for -- her son -- was a monster? His human soul had moved on and Nan would never forgive him if she knew.

Nan sighed and turned from the window, spotting Nathan. Her face lit up with a mother’s pri
de. She began to stand, but Nathan crossed the room before she could get up. “Mom.”

He leaned down and embraced her.

“Baby.” She squeezed him back, and then straightened her shirt. “Now, where’s that cute friend of yours?”

  “Mother!”

“Oh pooh. I’m fifty-one, Nathan. Not dead.”

Well, he is… sort of. “If you’re talking about Tyr, he and Gui are getting some drinks at the bar.”

“Oh, you brought that Mexican fellow along?”

“Technically, he’s only part…” A blank look washed over Nan’s face. “Never mind. Yes, I brought him along as well.”

“Good! Maybe I can get them to dish some dirt on you.” Nathan’s eyes widened. “Settle down, honey. I’m just joshing you.”

  Tyr and Guillermo joined them.

“Buenos noches, Mrs. Greer.” Guillermo kissed her hand. “You look muy bonita this evening. Very beautiful.”

Nan blushed and giggled. “What a charmer you are.” She touched her hand to her chest. “Please, call me Nan.”

“That blouse is a wonderful color, Nan. Really brings out your eyes.”

“This old frock?” She giggled again and Nathan felt nauseated.

“Hi, Nan,” Tyr jumped in. “Good to see you again.” He placed his hand on Nan’s shoulder. “And, Guillermo is right. You look lovely.”

Nan fanned herself. “You have the nicest friends, baby.”

Guillermo’s knee brushed against Nathan’s, sending a surge through him. Yikes. He did not want to get a hard-on around his mother. He scooted his chair a little to the left. Tyr reached down and pressed his hand to Nathan’s thigh, causing Nathan to jerk his chair back an inch. Guillermo and Tyr stared daggers at each other.

“So, Mom. How you been?” Nathan put his hands on the table. Nan reached out and took one, only to get shocked in the process.

  “Woo!” she yelped.

  “Sorry.”

“Don’t you worry about it, son. You used to shock me all the time as a baby. But that was a pretty sharp spark. You must take after your great-uncle Zeke.”

Guillermo stopped glaring at Tyr and turned his attention to Nan. “Uncle Zeke, you say? Do tell?”

“Oh, it’s mostly just stories, but folks around our parts got lots of tales about my Uncle Zeke. People called him Lightning because the man was always shocking folks. Most didn’t like to touch him much, you can understand.” She smiled. “There were a bunch of goofy stories about how he could resurrect dead animals. Kind of creepy really, if you think about it. But there was a woman, Adalade Johnson, who swore Zeke had brought her precious tabby cat back from death’s door.”

Nathan had grown up on the myth of Uncle Lightning Zeke and the whole thing embarrassed him, but Guillermo seemed intrigued. “Where did this Zeke come from?”

“Well, he was born and raised in the Ozarks, but my grandparents were immigrants from Ireland. Kyteler.”

Guillermo shifted his shoulders toward Nan. “Kyteler?”

“My maiden name, dear.” Nan reached down for her purse. “You boys don’t want to hear about an old broad and a bunch of wives’ tales. I’m going to go powder my nose, and when I get back, I want to hear all about Nathan.” She smiled innocuously then left the table.

Nathan groaned. “Both of you need to behave.”

  “We’re being scolded.” Tyr laughed.

Guillermo was in no humor. “Why are you really here?”

  “I was in…”

  Gui growled.

  “Well, I was.”

“Why Nathaniel? Do you hate me so much?”

“Nathan is my master. I didn’t pick him. It’s just how it is. He killed Min. Min’s bond with me transferred to him,” Tyr said, then added, “along with all of Min’s holdings, properties and money.”

Nathan’s mouth dropped open. “You said what?”

“It is your right. You killed Min. What was his is now yours.”

“But I… It was a fluke.”

Tyr shrugged. “Fluke or not, your hands did the deed.”

“But I don’t want all that.” Nathan couldn’t digest the fact that he’d somehow managed to inherit a dynasty from a vampire who’d tried to kill him.

Clasping his hands together, Tyr leaned forward. “May I speak frankly and truthfully?”

  “Please.”

“Because I was bonded to Min in the old ways, I’d rather hoped when that chair leg went through his heart that I would die. Then when I didn’t die, I hoped I would finally be free. I didn’t die and I’m not free. I’ve been handed off from one master to another. And so, as it has been for over seven hundred years, I have no choice in the matter. Without you, I starve. Without you, I suffer. I don’t want to exist like this, but we don’t always get what we want.”

Guillermo banged his fists on the table, startling a nearby waiter. “Enough! You are a liar.”

“Listen, Guillermo. I have never lied to Nathan, or you for that matter. I tried to tell you back then. The bond prevents me from disobeying my master. I am a puppet and Min held the strings. Now Nathan does. You think you suffered at my hands, at the hands of Min? My suffering has been just as great and has lasted much longer than yours ever did. I have been punished for the last one hundred years because of you.” Tyr stood and pressed his hands to the table. “Be glad you have choice and freedom.” Tyr turned to a stunned Nathan. “With your permission, I’ll take my leave. Please extend my apologies to your mother.”

Nathan merely nodded. He felt overloaded and overwhelmed. Guillermo’s surly scowl did not help matters.

“He is going back to your apartment, isn’t he?” Gui’s tone was deceptively calm and rational.

  “I guess.”

“You guess?” Gui clicked his tongue. “So, he’s living with you now?”

“I don’t know,” Nathan said through his teeth. “I’ve only been home one day. I’m pretty sure it’s temporary.”

“So you let strange men sleep at your home?”

Nathan felt like a prisoner during the Spanish Inquisition. “You know, up until a couple of months ago, we were strangers.”

“Yes,” Gui agreed. “But I did not move in with you.”

Nathan began to envy Tyr’s ability to excuse himself from the table. He tapped his watch. “What’s keeping Mom?” The quicker this dinner was over, the better.

  “Do not ignore me, Nathaniel.”

“I’m not ignoring you, Gui. I just don’t know what to tell you. You didn’t move in with me. Fine. Tyr’s been staying at my apartment. I haven’t had the chance to do much about it. And besides, I practically live with you. I’ve been at your place for three weeks and up until yesterday, I didn’t even know about Tyr. I’m beginning to think Nadine was right.”

  “About what, Nathaniel?”

“You’re acting like a jealous wife.”

“Soy insultado. You insult me.” Gui’s tone had gone from innocuous to menacing.

“Did I hear something about a wife?” Nan came bouncing back to the table. She looked at the two brooding men. “Did you boys order already?” Nan noticed the empty chair. “Where’s Tyr?”

“He didn’t feel well,” Nathan interjected before Guillermo could say anything. “He asked me to give you his apologies.”

“What a nice young man.” Nan smiled pleasantly. “I’ve been really worried about you, Nathan. I’m glad to see you have such good friends to keep you company.” She turned to Guillermo. “You know how it is with mothers and sons. We just want what’s best for them, even when they don’t.”

“Mom,” Nathan whined, a bit embarrassed. Her devotion had always been a blessing and a curse. He bit his lower lip as his mouth curved into a half smile. “I’m doing fine. Really.” But he wasn’t doing fine. He struggled every day.

Nan seemed to sense his unease. She placed her warm hand on his cheek. “Are you sure, son?”

Her voice held all of a mother’s warmth and concern, and sudden
ly, Nathan wanted nothing more than to crawl on her lap and let her hold him like she had when he was a child -- stroking his hair and telling him that everything was going to be okay. He put his hand over hers. “I’m sure.”

She lingered for a second, and then took her seat. “Good. I know you don’t like me interfering with your business and all, but you need someone to take care of you. I’m not going to be around forever, you know. And Lord God, boy, I want a grandkid some day.”

How could Nathan tell her he would never have the kind of life she dreamed for him? Nan fingered the cross at her neck and its whole meaning wasn’t lost on Nathan. Vampires couldn’t have children. Their sperm died with the soul. If she found out what he was, that he’d forfeited his soul, she’d die of a broken heart. In that moment, he decided. Better for her to think I am just a sinner, someone who can still be saved. “Mom, I’m gay.”

Nan nearly fell out of her chair and Guillermo’s eyes widened.

“No, no, no, no…” Nan clenched her fists and rocked slowly in her seat. “No.”

“I’m sorry to tell you like this…”

  “But you’ve had girlfriends. I don’t --”

“I know.” He wanted to take it back -- tell her he was lying. He wasn’t gay. He was a vampire. Vampires weren’t gay or straight. “I’m just trying to tell you --”

“Stop talking.” Nan’s voice quivered as she stood. “I did not raise a gay son.”

“You’ve got to listen to me.”

Nan leaned forward and slapped Nathan’s face then pulled her hand back quickly, looking from her reddened palm to Nathan in disbelief. “Goodbye, Nathan.” She fled the restaurant without once looking back.

Nathan felt numb, too stunned to move. Guillermo caressed his forearm. “Are you all right, amor?”

“I didn’t tell her that for you.”

“I know. I think what you just did was the bravest thing I’ve ever seen a son do for his mother.”

  “You think she’ll forgive me?”

Guillermo took his hand. “En tiempo. Only time will tell, amante.”
