A firm hand grabbed her butt.

  She gasped and looked down.

  “Easy wife,” Bane said.

She raised her eyebrow. “It’s about time you woke from your nap, husband dear.” She shimmied her arse until Bane removed his hand. Thank goodness they hadn’t disrupted time enough to make things worse in the present, though who knew what was instore down the road. For now, everything seemed perfect. Though Bane could wear that kilt a bit more, not that he wasn’t hot in his favorite jeans and white cotton shirt.

Once on the floor, she leaned in and lowered her voice. “Nice save, as your brother Conall would say.”

“Did your mother include him in on her plot, too? I hadn’t thought to ask at the time.”

“I’m not sure. And I don’t think we should call her to ask.” Aine smiled. Hopefully she wouldn’t have to return to the Otherworld for a very long time. The lecture her and Bane had received when they both were taken to the Otherworld after having been plucked from the past, was more than a mere tongue lashing. But at least the gods didn’t hold anything against her. Or Bane. Now they could enjoy the love they had for each other.

Bane rolled up his shirt sleeves, his gaze locked on his arm. “All these years and never once did ye come to me and just tell me what needed to be done.”

“I cudna save you. You had to do that on your own.”

He looked up, a seductive hint of mischief in his green eyes. “It will cost you, dear wife. As we never did finish that sword lesson in the armory.”

The scent of sandalwood wafted under her nose. She kissed Bane, ran her hands over his strong chest and reveled in the heat that seeped through his shirt to her palms.

Callen blew out a breath. “Oh, please, will you two just go home or go upstairs. Uncle Mortimer and Aunt Katya should be arriving in about an hour. That should give the two of you enough time to get whatever this is…” He glared down from the ladder and motioned his hand. “out of your systems. The two of you are worse than a pair of lovebugs. It’s disgusting for a son to watch.”

  Aine bit her lip.

Bane grinned. “It’s good to be home,” he whispered.

“And to have Old Dee back.” She looked around the room. “I wonder if Old Wolfsie is tamer now that he’s never actually lost the love of his life?”

  Castle Dundaire vibrated.

Callen gripped the ladder. “You are as bad as my parents, Dee.”

Bane eyed Callen. “How is your leg?”

Callen stepped off the ladder. “Fine. Why wouldn’t it be?”

“I was just wondering if it still acts up.”

“Dad, I was ten when Ulrich accidentally sliced my leg while sword training. That old wound has long since healed. It never bothers me. I dinna know why you keep asking me about it. It’s getting a little tiring after centuries.” He folded the ladder and left the library.

Bane sighed. “I guess we did good, wife.”

“Apparently so. Of course, we don’t know how Conall fared as he is the only one involved who had separate issues with the gods.”

“I’ll go over to The Fool’s Fort tomorrow and check up on my dear brother. Maybe things have changed for him, too. But for now, we have less than an hour to kill before your brother and sister-in-law show up. And I’d prefer to spend that time back at Wolfsden, in our own bed.”

She swatted him in the arm. “You are so bad, you know that?”

“Aye. But at least I am not as horrendous with a sword.” He paused. “I guess based on Callen’s statement, it’s safe to assume Ulrich took after you when it came to handling a claymore.”

“I’m sure all my sons did just fine with their weapons training.”

If nothing else, they were all fine now. And that was all that mattered to her.

She saved her wolf. Her magnificent, amazing wolf. Releasing their love from that darn jar was the best thing she’d ever done.

“I think your thoughts are a bit off, wife.”

  She pursed her lips.

“Ye didna forget that MacHendrie wolves can sometimes read their mates’ minds, did ye?”

  She had. “Humor me.”

Bane wrapped his arms around her. “I saved you, not the other way around.”

“Oh, so of all the things we’ve been through, that is what you are going to argue with me about?”

“I know better than to comment on that question, wumman.” He leaned in and kissed her, nipped her neck and then her earlobe.

Bane of Wolfsden, Scotland’s fiercest wolf was back. And he was more handsome and more playful than ever.

Thank you for reading Highland Wolf. This is the fourth installment in my Shifters of Dundaire novella series, featuring a pack of Scottish wolf-shifters.

I have had so much fun writing in the world of Dundaire. The living, breathing castles were among my favorite characters because they did things that my other characters couldn’t. The Fool’s Fort, the castle in my upcoming, THE RETURN OF THE WOLF, Shifters of Dundaire 5, has a totally different attitude toward life than love sick and brooding Wolfsden Keep and Castle Dundaire. The Fool’s Fort is a jolly character. And he keeps his master, Conall MacHendrie, on his toes. I hope you will join me in reading their story.

  Thank you!

Welcome to Dundaire, Scotland, a magickal city that doesn't appear on any map, where kilt-wearing, immortal Highlanders are plentiful, and where romance and danger brew daily...

Highland wolf shifter Conall MacHendrie yearns to buy back his former castle. For starters, the tasteless gift shop that sells demeaning versions of himself labeled, The Fool, will have to go. Next out the door will be the guides who tell tall tales about him.

But being a ghost complicates matters. That’s why he’s hired Fio’s Fine Properties, Realtor to the Undead. For a stake in the deal, Fio will purchase the property for him. But when Fio turns out to be Fiona O’Neill, turning over half his home to the immortal witch who cursed him, isn’t happening. Never mind that she still owes him one night of heated passion.

Warning: Contains a happy-go-lucky castle, a sexy Highland immortal who can’t keep his kilt on, and a feisty witch who’s the perfect match for Dundaire’s scorching hot Scot.
