Cupid's Holiday Trilogy Page 56

by Geeta Kakade

Laurel taught photojournalism in the community college in South Lake. She had completed the story of Cupid Lodge the year after she and Jacob were married and the book had been picked up and published by a major publisher as a coffee table book. The following year she had done a story of the Washoe people and it had met with the same success. Since then families had contacted her to do their stories and doing one book a year kept her fulfilled in that area of her life.

Jacob was happy working on the Reservation always trying to find new ways to get the people to strive to better themselves through education and work. He had gained a reputation for his work but he still remained as unassuming and quiet as ever.

Moira smiled as Frank came and sat down next to Holt. Her husband and her son were good friends. Her business was extremely successful but she still insisted on living in the renovated apartment and wouldn’t relinquish the cooking to anyone else other than Mrs. Kemp. Sue Tinsley’s niece had an associate degree in childhood education and she had started a day care in one of the cabins just for the family and the children of guests. Another niece of Norah’s cleaned the house.

Toby was happy with his suite off the garage. He had four men working for him at the Lodge and around the Activity Center and cabins, keeping the gardens, the grounds and the orchard up to his standards.

Mr. and Mrs. Kemp looked at each other and smiled. True, old age wasn’t for sissies but as long as they had their family around them they had no complaints whatsoever.

And so they ate and drank, sang carols and swapped stories knowing they were all truly blessed as generations before them had been and those that followed would be.

Ma and Pa Cupid looked around the room. Both of them had just been upstairs to look at the little ones. They couldn’t be more content.

Their family was growing, as every family should… in the light of love and happiness.
