Author’s Note
I was born and raised right on the Georgia/Tennessee line, and I’ve lived in the same ten mile radius my entire life. While I have been fortunate enough to travel over a good portion of the U.S., I’d never traveled to another country until 2014. (I’m not counting the time when I was sixteen and I drove across the Canadian border with my parents, visited a souvenir shop, and drove back to the U.S.)
For Christmas in 2013, our children (a son and a daughter) surprised us with a trip to Ireland. My son, who was twenty-four at the time, told me that we always talked about visiting Europe, and that if they didn’t get us the trip, we would probably never do anything but talk about it. He was probably right. So in effect, it was our children who pushed us out of the international travel nest.
I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not a good flyer. Seren’s motion sickness is based on my own experience. About midway of a six-hour flight, I was terribly sick, trying to combat it by drinking Sprite and rubbing ice on my face. It was an extremely long three hours, and yes, the first thing I did when I landed in Dublin was find the restroom (or the jacks as they say in Ireland) and hug the toilet. It was during the last three hours of the flight that I decided if I couldn’t get there by driving, then I didn’t need to go.
But you know what? By the time I left the restroom, I’d already changed my mind. The people in Ireland are some of the friendliest people you will ever encounter, and their accents are amazing.
Ireland is absolutely breathtaking, and I loved every single minute of my time there. While driving through the Irish countryside, my husband would often have to stop because sheep would be standing in the road, and while visiting Newgrange, our tourist bus was halted by a boy trying to move a herd of cattle down the road.
We visited many tourist attractions while we were there, but I have to say, two of my favorites were Blarney Castle and Cliffs of Moher. Like many American girls, I grew up dreaming of castles. As I stood on the parapets of Blarney Castle, I had tears in my eyes. It was an incredible experience to gaze over the grounds and imagine what it must have been like to live there.
One day we were lost in Cork. We pulled into a gas station and asked a gentleman for directions back to our bed and breakfast. He didn’t tell us how to get there. He told us to follow him, and we did, winding our way through the city until he got us to the road that led to our B&B. To say that he went out of his way to help us is an understatement. And that wasn’t the only time. Once near Galway, we’d taken a wrong turn, so we pulled into a side street, turned around, and pulled up behind a gentleman. Keep in mind that we were in a rental car, which is clearly marked with stickers, so I’m sure the residents can easily spot the tourists. This gentleman got out of his car and walked up to our window to ask us if we were lost. He was kind enough to confirm the direction in which we needed to travel.
My husband and I both enjoyed visiting Belfast, too. We took a tour around the city on one of the hop-on, hop-off buses. It was fabulous!
I could say so much more, but I’d have to write another book to truly describe the incredible experience. We loved it so much that we hope to visit again soon!

Readers, I can never say enough how much I appreciate your support. Thank you for purchasing my books and giving them a chance. It means a lot to me.
Bloggers, thank you for supporting authors and readers. Y’all rock!
Thank you to my husband for your support and for enduring my many book conversations.
Thank you to Louisa Maggio of LM Creations for designing another beautiful cover. You never disappoint.
Thank you to my beta readers, Lisa Atherton and Ginelle Blanch. I appreciate the fact that you ladies were willing to take time out of your busy schedules to offer your feedback. Writing is a solitary job, and being able to discuss DECEIVED with each of you was extremely helpful.
I want to extend a very special thanks to four ladies in Ireland for helping me out with the Irish slang. You know who you are! Just like in the U.S., the slang in Ireland can be regional, so while they may not use all of the words that I’ve incorporated, they did help me out with particular meanings or tough spots when I was hunting an appropriate word.
Thank you to everyone who has promoted my books, whether it was telling a friend or posting on social media. I sincerely appreciate it!
