Assassin (Starlight Book 1) Page 23

I nodded. Ella and Dad could stay with me. I wouldn’t have had it any other way.

“One more thing,” I said, before I was ready to leave. “How many members do we have right now?”

“We are not sure. The number keeps growing every day. Right now, I’d say about four thousand have reported they’re ready to train and fight,” Grandmother said.

Holy shit. Four thousand! Maybe we had a better chance than I thought. I grinned.

“We need to act soon. We only have a few months left,” Grandmother added.

  “Then let’s not waste them.”

My evil smile had already taken its place. I had no idea how, but I believed we could do it. I could almost taste the victory.

No matter what was going to happen from then on, I declared myself a Red Rebel, a member of an organization I once swore to bring down. This time, I swore to fight my way to Samayan, and bring him down once and for all, or I would die trying.

And for the first time in a really long time, I really wanted to live. For my sister. For my father. For every person in the world who wasn’t strong enough to fight for themselves.
