The Final Destiny: Vesta Mansion Trilogy - Book Three - Fantasy Page 44

by P. A. Priddey

Alex inspected one with interest. ‘This is different.’

‘They are love arrows, my lord,’ said Lightning. ‘Many here including the great one, don’t believe in them, but that may be because they have never loved like you two do.’

‘How do they work? I hope we’re not supposed to fire them at each other.’

‘No, of course not,’ said Lightning. ‘If you’re ever apart, you fire one skyward and your true love will know where you are.’

Carrie picked up the other arrow. ‘It’s a beautiful gift, and thank you for them.’

Lightning bowed his head. ‘You are welcome, my lady.’

‘And how are you, my friend?’

‘I am happy, more so now you have gotten rid of your hurts, as I could do nothing for them.’

Carrie raised a brow. ‘What hurts are you talking about?’

‘Your guilt, your sadness, I could see it all but could do nothing about it.’

  ‘How could you see that?’

‘Lord Alex gave many of us certain gifts when he did that thing with his golden energy, and mine was to see certain things. When you walked into the tavern on that day, it hit me like a brick.’

‘Are you saying our friendship was based on a lie?’

‘Sort of, I do believe you’re one of the most beautiful women in all the worlds. You needed a friend away from those you knew, and I do hope I am one.’

‘I like to think that too.’

‘Well, when I saw you I saw your pain, and I decided to look after you. I was a chaperone for when you wanted to go out, and protected you from any man who thought you were an easy target.’

‘So, you weren’t trying to get me in bed?’

‘No, my lady, I’m too loyal to Lord Alex to even think of that. Your safety and welfare was my only concern.’

‘You mean even if I wanted to sleep with someone I wouldn’t have been able to.’

Lightning shook his head. ‘Not while I was with you.’

Alex glanced at her. ‘Could you talk about having an affair after the honeymoon?’

‘I have no intention of having one, husband of mine, but it was nice knowing someone wanted me.’

‘I want you, but if you have taken a fancy to someone else I can at least go and get a beer or two,’ said Alex, smiling at her.

‘Don’t even think about it, we’re going home soon.’

  ‘It’s still early.’

‘Yes, the mansion is empty, and we’re going to have such a long night.’

Alex flinched at that. ‘Lightning, I thank you for your gift, I will give you one in return, and that’s to be careful when it comes to the healers.’

‘Oh indeed, my lord, I will.’

‘What do you mean?’ Carrie asked.

‘Lightning and Aileen, do you not see these things?’ said Alex.

  ‘When did that happen?’

‘She came to have a word with me about you,’ said Lightning, ‘and I told her everything I knew. She thought it was a wonderful thing I did. She told me I was a Sensitive, and that’s how I could see things.’

‘Well they might be beautiful and caring, but a healer can have a right temper.’

‘But she’s a healer and can heal me afterwards, and I don’t think I will ever suffer as much as you two have.’

‘I would suffer it tenfold just for this day,’ said Alex.

‘Tenfold it will be,’ said Carrie. ‘Let us go now, so I can make you suffer.’

They said their goodbyes, and went home after Alex pointed out that Carrie had promised to model her underwear for him.
