“Somehow I always figured you’d be a package deal, princess. We’re already an instant family. What’s two more?”
Matty sat year-old Victoria down on his son’s lap, then rested tiny Allegra next to Isabelle in the hospital bed. A brand-new family was forming right there before his eyes, those magical bonds of love and hope drawing the five of them closer together until the differences between them no longer mattered.
Matty stood in the doorway, trying to commit the sight and sound of love to memory. There would be tough times ahead. Life didn’t come with guarantees. His boy and the princess both had hard heads and hot tempers, but that would only make it more interesting. The love was there and the commitment. Those three beautiful babies were proof of that.
“I love you, Bronson,” Matty heard her say. “So much more than you’ll ever know.”
Daniel turned, and Matty thought he caught the glitter of tears in his son’s eyes.
I knew it, Danny. Sooner or later it was going to get you, too. You could fight it all you wanted, but when the right man met the right woman, there was only one way the story could end. Daniel was a Bronson, and Bronsons were family men. He couldn’t change that if he tried.
Smiling, Matty walked down the corridor to the telephone and placed a long-distance call to his wife.
