Bren held his hand out to her. “After you.”
After Lainey and Bren walked away, Travis turned to Piper. “Shall we?”
She grinned at him. “We shall.”
As they walked to the dance floor, Travis leaned over and asked, “I’ve never seen you here before. Are you new to the area?”
She didn’t want to tell this sexy guy—and potential one-night stand—that she was a widow and that this was her first time at a nightclub since he’d passed away. So, she went with a shorter and easier answer. “Kind of. I’ve lived here awhile, but this is the first time I’ve come here with my friends.”
They’d almost reached the dance floor when Travis turned around and started walking backward. “Well, in case I forget to tell you, I’m glad you came.”
His smile was pure sex, and Piper blushed.
They reached a small table on the outside of the dance floor, and Travis took a long drink from his cup and set it down. Then, he picked up her drink and set it next to his. He grabbed her hand. “Let’s go dance.”
Piper laughed excitedly as he led her to the dance floor. The light hit his eyes just right, and she noticed they were blue. Darker than Nate’s and definitely not as beautiful.
She mentally paused. Why am I thinking about Nate? I should be thinking about Jordan.
Piper met Travis’s eyes, and he smiled at her again.
No, I should be thinking about the sexy guy in front of me.
And, with that thought, she wrapped her arms around Travis’s neck and pulled him close. The song wasn’t slow, but it had a good beat, giving them the right amount of rhythm to bump and grind with each other.
A couple of hours later, Piper was dancing with Simone when a strong set of arms went around her waist. The dusting of dark blond hair told her it was Travis, and she pushed her ass against his groin.
He pulled her tighter, and she tilted her head up and back and kissed Travis. She’d been waiting to kiss him, and now seemed like the perfect time. The man was a good kisser, without a doubt, and she imagined he’d be good in the sack, too.
Yet something was missing.
She pulled away and turned around in his arms; she studied him as if that would give her the answer she needed.
But then she realized it had to be that he wasn’t her husband. She was simply used to her husband, and this guy was new. It was like a new house. At first, it felt like you were at a stranger’s, but after some time, it would feel like your home.
She just needed to relax and remember that, while Travis wasn’t Jordan, it didn’t mean they couldn’t have a good time together.
She moved closer and kissed him again. Shutting out all thoughts of her husband, she enjoyed the man standing in front of her. When she took a step back, she had to catch her breath.
“Whoa,” he said.
Whoa was right.
He yanked her even closer and pushed his erection into her. “Do you want to get out of here?”
No, her immediate thought was.
Shut up, brain. This is what we want, remember?
“Yes,” she said out loud, her heart racing but not necessarily in a good way.
Maybe, if she had another drink, she’d calm down some.
Travis picked up her hand and kissed the back of it. “Great,” he said with a grin. He turned and led her to the door.
Suddenly, Piper felt like she couldn’t breathe. The closer they got to the entrance, the more she felt like her chest was tightening. They were almost there when she jerked her hand out of Travis’s.
He spun around. “What?” His eyes widened when he saw her face. She could only imagine what she looked like at the moment. “Are you okay?”
Piper felt like crying. “No.”
“What’s wrong? Did I do something?”
“No, no, no.” She rushed to reassure him. “It’s not you; it’s me.”
His brow almost touched his hairline, and she had to giggle.
“This time, it’s true.” She grabbed his hand. “You are great. You’re sexy, a good dancer, a great kisser…”
“But?”
“But I’m not ready,” she admitted. She took a deep breath. “My husband died a little over a year ago, and I…haven’t been with anyone since.”
“Ah,” Travis said, and she could see in his eyes the pity she hadn’t wanted to see.
She dropped his hand. “Yeah. It’s almost as bad as if I’d told you I was a virgin.”
Travis laughed, and she felt better.
“I’m sorry. I feel like I led you on.”
He put his hands on her shoulders. “Hey, do not be sorry. Shit happens. Sometimes to good people. So, we don’t get laid tonight.” He shrugged. “It’s not the end of the world.”
“Damn, you are going to make one woman very lucky someday.”
He laughed again. “We’ll see.”
“You will,” she said with conviction.
He nodded to the dance floor. “You want to go back out there?”
She thought about it and shook her head. “Nah. You go find your friend. I’m going to go get some water.”
His hands fell to his sides. “Okay. It was nice meeting you, Piper.”
“You, too, Travis.”
Travis went to find his friend, and Piper headed to the bar.
Piper ordered a water and found an empty table to sit. She pulled up a stool and started nursing her drink.
A little while later, Simone ran up to her. “Oh my God, you’re here. We didn’t know where you went.”
Piper winced. She was really off tonight. “I’m sorry. I’ve been sitting here, lost in my head.”
Simone pulled up the only other stool and took a seat next to Piper. “What’s going on? I saw the guy you were with all night come back alone.”
Piper put her elbow on the table and propped her chin up on her fist. “I tried to go home with him.”
Simone gasped. “Did he turn you down?”
Piper chuckled. “No. It was the other way around.”
Simone wrinkled her nose. “I’m confused.”
“I wanted to go home with him, but I couldn’t. I think I almost had a panic attack, the closer we got to leaving.”
Simone put her hand on Piper’s arm. “I’m sorry.”
Piper shrugged. “Me, too.”
“Maybe you’re just not ready yet.”
“Yeah, my mind obviously isn’t. Now, if someone could tell my vagina to get on board with waiting, that would be great.”
Simone laughed. “Too bad you can’t be with the guy who reawakened your sexuality.”
Piper straightened. “What?”
“Oh, I assumed that a guy made you realize you wanted to have sex again. I’m sorry.”
Piper shook her head, but her friend kept talking, “Well, it’s too bad. Because whoever got your juices flowing again should be the one you have sex with.” Simone leaned forward. “If I were in your position, I’m betting Chris Hemsworth or Henry Cavill would get my engine revving again.” She fanned her face. “Those two get my senile grandmother in the mood.” But then she stuck out her lip, exaggerating a sad face. “Not that I would ever get to meet either of those men.” She tapped her lip in thought. “Hmm…maybe I would just need to find myself a foreigner since neither Chris nor Henry is American.” She looked at Piper. “That’s what we should do. Find you a handsome man from Australia or England.”
Simone continued to make plans to find Piper a man, but she started to tune her out. In her head, she kept going over and over what Simone had said.
“Too bad you can’t be with the guy who reawakened your sexuality.”
“Too bad you can’t be with the guy who reawakened your sexuality.”
“Too bad you can’t be with the guy who reawakened your sexuality.”
And then a memory flashed of how Nate’s naked chest had felt against her back that day in her house.
Piper jumped up from her seat so fast that Simone shrieked. “I have to go.”
“What?” Simone asked, understandably baffled.
“I have to go,” Piper said again as she dug around in her clutch for her keys. “Found ’em,” she said more to herself than Simone.
“Are you okay to drive?”
Piper paused. She’d only had a couple of drinks and done plenty of dancing. Her last drink had been water, and her buzz had worn off hours ago. “I’m fine.” She leaned down and hugged Simone. “Thank you.”
The blonde looked very confused. “You’re welcome?”
Piper laughed and started for the door. “I’ll see you later,” she yelled back at her friend and took off as fast as her heels would carry her.
Piper used her keys to unlock the door as quietly as she could. She shut the door behind her and relocked it just as silently. She was doing a good job of being stealthy when she tripped over the damn cat.
“Fred,” she hissed. “You almost killed me,” she scolded him as she slipped off her shoes and set them on the entrance rug.
Meow.
“Shh…you’re going to wake up Nate.”
Meow.
“Traitor.”
Piper tiptoed up the stairs and headed for Nate’s bedroom. She knew he’d had dinner with his grandfather earlier in the night. At one point, he had texted her, saying he was going to bed early for a Friday night, so she knew exactly where to find him.
As she had driven to his house, she’d considered waiting to approach Nate, but she had known, in the bright light of day, after sleeping on it, she’d lose all her nerve.
She crept into his room and saw that Nate was sleeping on his back. His torso was bare, and the sheet was pulled to his waist. She sat down next to him and hesitated for a second.
It was now or never.
She reached down and shook Nate awake.
Nate was having another dream about Piper when someone pulled him from his sleep.
“Nate.”
“Piper?” He lifted his head and shook it back and forth.
This was the most realistic dream he’d ever had. It felt like she was in his room with him. All he could see was her top half, but she was wearing white, and her beautiful breasts were on display. Tasteful yet not hiding. He was definitely still dreaming.
He dropped his head back to his pillow and closed his eyes again.
His body jerked again as he was shaken.
“No, Nate. You need to wake up.”
That was enough for him to realize he wasn’t dreaming anymore.
He quickly sat up. “What’s wrong?” he asked on full alert.
Piper had never come to his house in the middle of the night while he was sleeping.
He began feeling her all over. He started with her head and worked his way down her arms. “Are you hurt?”
She laughed. “Kind of. But not in the way you’re asking.”
He stopped to meet her eyes. His room was bright from the streetlights outside and the fact that he never bothered to shut his shades. “Who the fuck hurt you?” Nate wanted to kill him.
She grabbed his hands. “No one hurt me.”
He felt immediate relief. “Then, what’s wrong?”
“I need you to fuck me.”
Nate closed his eyes and opened them again. Maybe he was still dreaming because there was no way Piper had just said those words to him. He shook his head again to clear the cobwebs. “I didn’t hear you.”
She laughed again and cupped his face with both hands. “Nate Hall, I need you to fuck the ever-loving shit out of me.”
Nate almost jumped off the bed, but Piper was blocking his exit. That was probably a good thing since he was naked and at full mast. He’d been half-hard from his dream, but then her words had made his cock want to do exactly as she’d commanded.
But, while his dick was saying yes, his head was flashing a warning sign. This was his dead friend’s wife. This was his friend. He didn’t know if he could actually sleep with her, no matter how much he wanted to.
Plus, he knew she’d been out drinking with her friends. He did not want to be a drunken mistake that she regretted in the morning.
Speaking of drinking…
“Did you drive here?”
Piper tilted her head to the side and smiled as if she knew exactly what he was thinking. “I’m not drunk.” She stood up and faced him. She held out her arms and touched each hand to her nose. Then, she went to his wall and turned and walked with one foot in front of the other.
She certainly didn’t seem intoxicated.
“I think you know how to do that stuff a little too well. Is there something you’d like to share?”
She flipped him off as he swung his legs to the floor. He made sure his sheet and comforter still covered his goods though.
She stalked toward him and stopped only inches away. Then, in one fell swoop, she pulled off her little white dress.
And there she was.
Piper Stevens.
In only a white strapless bra and white underwear.
She did a three-sixty.
Correction. In a white thong.
Nate groaned. He was only so strong. “If we do this, nothing changes between us. You’re not going to ignore me or act weird around me, okay?”
She leaned over and kissed him. She pulled away and whispered, “I knew you were perfect,” before she kissed him again.
He had no idea what she meant by that, but at that point, he no longer cared.
Piper’s tongue was in his mouth, and her almost-naked body was under his hands.
Nate gently nudged her back, so he had room to stand. He stood from the bed, no longer caring if she saw him naked. “Take off your bra and thong.”
She didn’t appear to even hear what he’d said, as she was staring at his cock. She reached for him, and he grabbed her wrist.
Her eyes shot to his.
“Bra and panties, Piper. Take them off.”
She looked down at his shaft. “But I want to touch it.” Her gaze met his again. “Please.”
Nate chuckled. “All in good time,” he assured her.
If she touched him now, he wasn’t sure how long he’d last. And he needed to last. There were so many things he wanted to do to her and her body before he could even think about coming.
He felt her arm relax, and he let her go.
She took a step back, and the anticipation of whether he would get to see her beautiful breasts or her pretty pussy first had him nearly seeing double.
She reached behind her back, and with a quick flick of her wrists, her bra fell to the floor.
She was perfect. Her large breasts were clearly natural by the way they lay on her chest.
She lifted her hands and cupped them. “They’re real,” she said in almost an apologetic way.
He hated that she was self-conscious because her boobs weren’t fake.
He wished women could understand that there was no perfect woman and that one attractive thing did not make another thing unattractive. He’d been with some women with fake breasts, and he wasn’t going to lie and say they hadn’t looked amazing. But that didn’t mean that Piper’s were any less appealing. Small breasts, large breasts, real breasts, fake breasts. He loved them all.
“They’re gorgeous,” he told her. “I can’t wait to taste them.” He nodded once down toward her crotch. “Panties first.”
She smiled, clearly pleased with his compliment. She pushed her thong off her hips and onto the floor. Using one foot, she flung them across the room.
He stepped off to the side and held out his hand. “On the bed. Face up. Legs open.”
She made a humming noise and grinned as she did as he’d commanded.
And Nate about had a heart attack.
Piper’s long, dark hair was fanned out around her, her eyes were filled with desire, and her pink nipples were puckered wi
th her arousal. That was enough to stop any man in his tracks. But the part that nearly killed him was the tempting pussy that was completely bare.
“Damn.” He couldn’t wait to taste it.
She laughed.
He knelt on the bed and crawled closer to her. He put one leg between hers and looked her in the eye. “Are you sure you want to do this?”
“Without a doubt,” she answered. “And you?”
“Abso-fucking-lutely.” More than she knew.
Piper put her hands on his chest. “Touch me, Nate,” she whispered.
She began trailing one hand down his stomach, but before she could reach his dick, he put his middle two fingers in his mouth and then inside her.
Piper’s arms dropped to her sides, and she clutched his bedding in her fists. “Oh-oh,” she stuttered. “Oh my God.”
Nate pulled his digits halfway out and noted how they glistened in the streetlight. He pushed them back in again, watching Piper’s face when he discovered he’d hit pay dirt. “Ahh…there it is.” Nate rubbed the tips of his fingers in a small circle. “Piper’s G-spot.”
Her back arched off the bed, lifting her butt in the air, as she tried to rotate her pelvis around his fingers. She was already clenching around him.
He pulled his hand away completely.
Her hips fell, and she swore at him, “You asshole.”
Nate just laughed and tsked at her. “Now, now. We can’t be letting you come already.”
“Why not?” she half-moaned, half-whined.
“Because I’m not ready for that yet.” At this point, he hadn’t even touched her clit yet.
He put both legs in the middle of hers now and pushed her thighs open wide as he sat back on his haunches. He traced the outside of her lips with his fingers a couple of times before he flicked his thumb over her clit.
A long and low moan sprang from Piper’s mouth.
It was always nice when he received positive feedback.
Nate gathered some of her wetness and brought it to her swollen nub. Soon, he had her panting and arching her back once more.
But he couldn’t have that.
He pulled his hand away again.
Piper moaned, this time in frustration. “I hate you.”
