“Here’s trusting.” Adam let go of Fox. Fox used the moment to scurry up the wall to Miranda. She took the two men’s weight with a grunt. If it wasn’t for the strength enhancers in the armor, she would never have been able to anchor their dead weight.

Eric slung his body up on the left, catching the ledge, which he used to right himself until he was standing. Adam followed. Miranda felt the weight lift off the rope, but she didn’t move until Fox passed her in the tunnel.

“Almost there, kitten,” Eric said through the coms.

“I see a light up here,” Fox said. Oscar beeped a warning.

“Oscar says stay away from the light.” Eric was at her back, Adam right behind him. Miranda needed to move so they could all get out of the passage.

“Why do I need to stay out of the light?” Fox asked, followed by an “Oh.”

‘Oh, no,’ Miranda thought. She was halfway out of the tunnel when she heard the click, click, click of gears shifting after thousands of years of disuse.

  “Run!” Oscar beeped.

‘Run where?’ Miranda thought as she pulled herself up onto the ledge. There was a light in the distance. Which was momentarily blocked out by a bolder the size of her old house rolling right towards them.

“Oscar!” she called after her droid. He rolled towards her, passing the stunned Fox who stood there mesmerized by the rolling stone.

“Adam, brace!” she ordered. She grabbed Fox by the collar of his suit, pulling him out of the way of being crushed and clicking him into her belt as he slid past. He knocked into Eric who, unprepared for the shift in weight, lost his balance and slid onto the slide too. Miranda threw herself back sliding down the stairs back into the dark where the pit loomed.
