Whatsit and MerrCrr ran to check Zeck's body. They were kneeling around it when Tom, Doug and Becky appeared.
Doug and Becky used their telepathic control to back the remaining guards into a corner while Tom joined Whatsit.
"What happened?" Tom asked. "Lloyd said you were being arrested."
"It appears Hisspat Zeck was trying to consolidate his political power by eliminating those he perceived as his greatest enemies. He didn't realize Emperor Horcunt saw him as a threat."
"Wow. Death by senile geezer."
"Zeck never saw it coming."
"Now what? You ready to go home?"
"This is my home," Whatsit sighed as Chellsee drew near and hugged him. "My people need help; a steady hand during the long years needed to rebuild our civilization."
“Both our planets need help with rebuilding, and you and I are proof our people can work together and learn to love each other. We are stronger together than apart.”
Turning Whatsit’s chin toward her, Chellsee smiled and said. "And you need a strong woman at your side to counsel you. Your irresponsible male hormones must be kept in check."
"You know, that's a good idea," Whatsit said as he moved away. "I think I'll put out a notice for resumes. Perhaps some qualified person will apply. Who knows?"
"Oh!" Chellsee smiled. "I can see there are several bad habits you picked up on Earth I will have to change. Like your sense of humor."
