On the way, a weather report came on the radio. “A chance of afternoon thundershowers again today in the mountains,” the broadcast began. Dad turned off the station. “We know where that’s going,” he said, smiling.

The family got a hotel room in Denver. They would leave in the morning for the Denver airport and their flight home.

Later, the Parkers drove to Coors Field for a baseball game between the home team, the Colorado Rockies, and the Parkers’ favorite team, the Los Angeles Dodgers.

In the fifth inning, the family was sitting in the bleachers eating hot dogs and popcorn. The Colorado cleanup hitter was at the plate.

It was a two ball, two strike count when the powerful slugger connected on a swing. He sent a towering fly ball way up into the bleachers, high over the Parkers’ heads, for a home run.

  The crowd went crazy.

“I hope that ball doesn’t have altitude issues,” James mentioned.

“Yeah, it was hit at least a mile above tree line,” Morgan added.

“It probably ended somewhere up on Longs Peak,” Dad concluded, and then the family all laughed.
