I glanced down at my hands and the lights were gone, my palms looked normal again. I ate the fruit quickly, and after I finished, my stomach still craved more.
Noticing that nobody was around, I tossed the blanket off and stood up, making my way to the center of the room. The stone next to the fire was empty. Kesi hadn’t put a second plate there. I’d have to go find my own food before I starved to death.
Walking outside, I made my way to the spring, yearning for some cool water before I foraged for food. I took off my clothes and walked into the water until it lapped at my ankles.
“Layna.” Seth’s voice sounded like even saying my name caused him pain.
“Yes, Seth,” I answered, not wanting to turn around. It wasn’t because I didn’t want to see him, because I needed him more than anything in all of the Sector. I wanted to hold him and kiss him, feel his warm touch on my skin. The truth was, I was embarrassed to look at him. I had broken a promise. Broken him. And that hurt me more than anything.
“Please, look at me.”
I sighed deeply, and then turned around. There he was in all his glory. Dark hair tied back, fine lines of a warrior embedded in his skin, broad shoulders and perfectly carved arms. The chest I’d lay my head on so many times. The hardened abs I had trailed kisses down. And the eyes. The blue which reached in and took control of my soul. Looking at him brought tears to my eyes again. God, I missed him so much. “I’m sorry,” I choked out a sob, unable to stand another minute without his touch, but cursing myself because I dared not, terrified of what might happen.
“Whatever for?” Confusion drifted into his features as he stood there at the edge of the water.
“This is all my fault. I promised you not to go in there, and I did. I want so badly to touch you, but I can’t, Seth. I want you to kiss me and hold me. Make love to me a million times. But we can’t do any of that because I don’t know if I’ll hurt you.”
Seth marched through the water toward me, closing the gap between us. Before I could stop him, he had me in his arms and we were in the clearing, outside the protection of the cave, his mouth crashing into mine like a fierce tidal wave engulfing the shore.
The heat between us intensified as we tasted each other hungrily in the middle of the berry bushes, my legs wrapped around him tightly.
He reached up, cupping my breast in his hand as we flashed to the inside the cave, his other hand holding me tight around the waist. His kisses deepened, and the heat in my legs became apparent. Yearning for him more and more.
“I want you inside of me,” I managed to say in between gasps of breath as we appeared in the clearing again.
He rid himself of his shorts fast, holding onto me with one hand in case I disappeared again. He came back down on me, ready and full of life. Seth entered me hard, thrusting deep in my womb, my moisture exploding all around him, causing me to cry out and arch my back.
“Harder,” I growled at him, needing more and more, and knowing it still wouldn’t be enough to satisfy my hunger. My lust for him roared inside of me, taking control of my body and my soul.
The energy swirled around us, the heat from our bodies growing hotter and hotter with each of his thrusts. God, how I missed him! I bit into his shoulder and he reared up on his knees, sliding his hands underneath me and cupping my backside, forcing me toward him so he could plunge deeper, harder, into my wetness.
My body jerked with pleasure, my walls contracting around his width as I took every inch of him. I grabbed at the grass behind my head, reaching for something to anchor onto as he took control of me.
“Layna…Layna,” he gasped my name. “My god, Layna!” His eyes were on me, two orbs of blue swimming in the center of madness. He fell down on top of me, his hands sliding up the length of my arms and gripping my wrists, not losing his pace as his head fell to my chest and his strength rocked into me.
As his hips pushed into mine, mine pushed into him, it was like the world had disappeared and we had become one body, one soul, and nothing else mattered. Nothing except losing ourselves together.
His motion began to slow as he grew inside me, expanding my walls and causing me to shake and whimper beneath him. He looked up, his eyes an endless pool of need and want and desire as they settled on my own.
“Seth,” I cried out, fighting against his hands holding me down as the next wave of energy shot through me, this one more intense than the others. I closed my eyes, my body shaking uncontrollably as he pushed once more inside of me, burrowing deep in my tunnel of wetness, then he stilled, his hands gripping my wrists so hard I’d thought he would break them.
“Don’t move,” his voice was a throaty growl as he pulsed inside of me. Then he released, the warm wetness shooting through me causing my eyes to roll into the back of my head and my body to shudder.
“Shit, Layna,” he exhaled, rolling off of me and looking to the sky. “You’re going to be the death of me.”
I laughed, clearly not expecting that response. “How so?”
“Your teleporting is wearing me out. Couldn’t you have picked one spot and stayed there?” He turned his head and smiled at me.
“I had no control over it.”
“Sure you did. The clearing, the cave, the berry patch.” He reached his hand out, but left a small distance between our fingers. “I’m glad you decided on the clearing. This is where I took off my shorts.” He grinned playfully.
Heat rushed into my cheeks and I wanted to hit him. “What makes you think I controlled where we went?”
“Because I never had a thought of a place, only a person. You. And I’ve been thinking,” he added before I could respond, “I think you may have found your power. When you used Kesi’s speed, you stayed inside the cave, even though you thought you couldn’t control it, and then when I grabbed you, you began teleporting. That’s not something Naturals do. What you have is a very special gift.”
I sat up on the ground, watching him. “You think my power is using other Naturals abilities?” Seth seemed to disappear for a moment as I got lost in my thoughts. “She will possess all powers,” I whispered. “It makes sense.”
Seth looked at me, completely clueless. “What makes sense?”
I pulled my legs in, sitting cross-legged. “When I was in the other part of the cave, there were also letters. One of them was about my parents. My mother had been Ordained as Regent even though she had two bastard children. She was the only choice they had. The person who wrote the letter said she was in love with my father, who was a descendant of the founding Regent. The letter stated their child would be able to possess all powers. That child Seth, is me.”
He propped himself up on his elbows, taking in what I said. “If that’s true, you—”
Before he finished his sentence, I lunged at him. “It’s me!” I said excitedly, landing on top of him.
We were now in front of the spring and I released him. I got to my feet and snatched up my clothes.
“Could you please give me some warning before you decide to use my body like that?” He laughed as he watched me dress.
I looked down at him, unable to control my giggles as I pulled on my shorts. “Use your body. I like the sound of that.” But he was right. I didn’t think I may have been violating him in any way. I cleared my throat as I stood over top of him, holding out my hand. “May I use you to go show Kesi?”
“I was only playing.” The corners of his lips twitched. “You can use my body anytime you want.” He took my hand, and then we were gone.
Chapter 42
Over the next few days, Kesi and Seth let me practice with their powers. I found if I concentrated on exactly where I wanted to go, I didn’t have any issues controlling her speed or his teleporting, even though now I referred to it as flashing.
The best part was sneaking up on Seth and catching him off guard. I’d take him wherever I wanted to go, within the safety of the cave, of course. There were also times when I could shut it off, not borrow their powers, which wou
ld be useful in case another Natural touched me.
Seth and Kesi kept me heavily guarded, not that they didn’t before, but when Kesi made her rounds to the village, she made sure to keep my rare power confidential. They didn’t want anyone to know what I could do just yet. Had no idea if they could trust every Natural in the village to keep my secret to the humans if they were to encounter them.
It was only at dinner one evening I felt confident enough to disclose what I had discovered in the back side of the cave. I started out slow.
“Do you know why magic surrounds this place, why ravagers won’t come near it?” I picked at the chicken breast on my plate, waiting to see if anyone would answer.
Seth spoke up. “No, I guess someone thought the place was important.”
I glanced up at him. “It’s because it’s protected by the founding Regent, Sabana. This is where Sector Twelve began.” I continued on like it was a typical conversation, pausing every now and then to place a piece of chicken in my mouth.
“Was that in one of the books you found?” Kesi asked as she sat in front of me, eating a piece of watermelon.
I nodded. “The land was infested with ravagers. She created this as a sanctuary for her people. Humans and witches. But back then, there were more witches than humans. And they all had powers like the Naturals. The reason why you and Seth can’t enter the back of the cave is because you two aren’t descendants of Sabana. Only witches of her blood can access it.”
Seth and Kesi listened to me without interrupting. All of us eating our meal as I recalled the letters, the ravagers taking over the world, the technology of the old world and how Sabana wanted no part of it. How the witches began losing their powers and the fall of Sabana’s descendants. Also, how the council had and is deceiving the sector. I explained why they wanted control and how they killed whoever threatened them.
“Tiahna and Zane are only my half-sister and half-brother. I know my parents were trying to protect me, but I sort of feel like I’ve been lied to my entire life, even though everything makes more sense now,” I said, pushing my plate away.
“They kept you safe— for all our futures.” Seth reached over, placing his hand on mine. “If the council would have found out about you, they would have killed you.”
“I know.” I swallowed hard. “But it didn’t stop the anger from rising up inside of me. That’s when the letters on the wall began to glow. Zinna had said something to me before we left your father’s village. She said I had been sleeping way too long, and it was time for me to wake up. Her words whispered in my head when I touched the wall. She saw what was going to happen. I think she knows more than she is telling.”
“Maybe so,” Kesi said, getting up and taking her plate over to the rock. “But we don’t know for sure how much she knows if she won’t disclose it. Unless,” she paused and looked at me, “your power lets you see in the future if you touch a seer.”
“Absolutely not!” Seth shot her a death glare. “I don’t want her near the seer.”
“But, Seth,” she tried to argue with him. “Maybe if she can see for herself—”
“No, Kesi.” He refused to let her finish. “Layna has been through enough lately. The last thing she needs is to see something she can’t make sense of. The visions are never clear. They are bits and pieces of the future, and the seer usually needs to put them together.”
I knew what was really bugging him. The outcome of us. The prophecy. He didn’t want me to see it.
“I’m going into the village tonight,” Kesi said, changing the subject. “Any special requests?”
“Some more clothes.” I glanced down at mine, tired of the same outfit. “Maybe, a skirt or dress this time,” I looked up at her, “but not as formal as the last one.”
She smiled. “I’ll see what I can do.”
After dinner, Kesi left for the village, leaving Seth and me alone. I was bent over my stone bed, blankets in hand, attempting to make it a little more comfortable when his hands landed on my hips.
The bed was gone, and I was holding onto the blankets as I stared at the small cavern in front of me, the sound of the roaring waterfall behind me. “Seth!” I spun around to him, dropping the blankets. “What are you doing? Why did you bring me here?”
He grinned sheepishly as he released me. “You need to relax, and what better place than where we first made love.”
He was right. This was where we had our first sexual encounter. We were fighting, and then, well… Heat flooded into my cheeks. “As long as we don’t start arguing again.” A smile tugged at the corners of my lips. I could now laugh at the memory.
“No.” His face was serious as he placed his hands on either side of my hips. “I could never fight with you here.” He pulled me close to him. “This is where it all started. Our souls were finally reunited that day. This is a very special place to me.” He swung me around, dipping me under the cool waterfall and bringing me back to him. “Besides, I love when you get all wet. It makes you look even sexier.”
I laughed as he leaned down, nibbling on the hollow of my neck, causing the excitement to flare up inside me. A flutter vibrated inside my lower abdomen, tickling my insides. “Seth,” I whispered, taking his face in my hands and pulling him up to me. “I have to tell you something.”
“No, Layna,” he said in a voice as low as mine. “Not tonight.” He leaned down and scooped me up in his arms, carrying me over to the stone where we’d first made love. “Tonight, it’s all about you, about us. Nothing else.”
He placed me down gently on my back and crouched in front of me, spreading my legs with his hands. As he kissed my inner thigh, I leaned my head back, knowing what I was about to tell him could wait just a little longer. There was always tomorrow.
Seth slowly slid my shorts off, his fingers trailing down my skin, leaving tingles in their wake. He kissed my inner thighs tenderly, his lips soft and moist over my flesh. My head was spinning already as the fire scorched my heart.
He slid his hands underneath me, lifting my lower body up and closer to his face. Looking at me from underneath his dark lashes, he smiled. Then he disappeared as his tongue traced the borders of my walls. Round and round in a slow and delicate motion, lapping up the moisture and causing me to squirm and moan. His grip tightened on my ass, forcing me to still while he entered my valley. His tongue flicked in and out, and I gripped the blanket hard as the tip of his tongue rounded on my core. Nibbling and sucking and licking. I nearly came up off the stone, but he held me down with the strength of his arms.
He shifted his hands up, holding tightly on my hips as he entered me again. I screamed his name, moaning and groaning as I fought for a grip as hard as I could. Even attempting to twist out of his hold, but he refused to let me. His tongue reached further and further inside me, driving me completely insane until I exploded inside his mouth. He growled into my climax and drank every bit of me, licking me around the edges to make sure he hadn’t left anything behind.
His hold on me finally relaxed and he shifted upward, kissing every inch of me as he worked his way up my body; my belly, my naval, and each of my nipples. He claimed my mouth, my scent fresh on his breath as he sought out my tongue.
We kissed and nibbled and sucked, and then he took full control of my body. The motions were slow and deep, but the need for me still existed inside his soul. His energy mingled with mine and I came many times, too many to count, but each one better than the one before. Our hearts beat to the same rhythm, both wanting to leap from our chests to join the other. And then he released inside me. I threw my head back as he bit my neck, the heat flowing through me intense, amazing, and more than satisfying.
He shifted next to me, and we both lay there, side by side, panting and attempting to catch our breaths.
It took a while, but he eventually rolled over to face me. “No matter where we live or where we go. This will always be our place.” Then he kissed me on top of my head, his warmth flowing into me and causing the ring o
n my finger to heat up.
Yes, this would always be our place. There was no denying it, our souls had fully claimed it, and our hearts would never let it go.
When we returned to the cave, Kesi stomped toward us, her face stricken with a mixture of grief and fear. “Where the hell have you two been? I’ve been waiting all night for you!”
Seth’s arms fell away from me as he looked at her. “What’s wrong, Kesi?”
“It’s your father.” She stopped, her skin growing pale. “The Regent’s army somehow broke through the barrier. The Naturals managed to get it back up, but not before they slaughtered a handful of Naturals, including your father.”
Seth’s body stiffened, his hands balling into fists. The heat coming off of him was intense. “I need to go.” His voice was filled with fury, telling me the warrior had been awaken from its slumber. He wouldn’t be able to think properly through his anger. I had no idea what he was capable of.
“Take me with you,” I said, placing my hand on his arm before he could teleport.
He placed his hand over mine and turned around, the fire in his eyes burning bright, but dimming as he looked at me. “No, you need to stay here. I promise I’ll be back shortly.” He removed my hand and let it fall to my side. Then he leaned down, kissing me on the lips. He pulled away, and then he was gone before I could grab him.
“Shit!” I glared at the empty space, stomping my foot in frustration. “Kesi, I need to get to him.”
“No way.” She shook her head and took a step back. “You heard him, Layna. He’ll be back before you know it. It’s too dangerous for you to be out there.”
Her words burned me to the core, and as much as I wanted to take hold of her and use her speed to get to the village, I knew I couldn’t. I had to listen to Seth this time and wait for him to return. But if he didn’t, I would go after him, and nobody would stop me, not even Kesi.
