Chant Charlie Estabrook’s half-trusted driver, guide, and procurer servant— a facilitator. Chant arranged the meeting with Charlie and the assassin, Pie ‘oh’ pah. He was also the Autarch Sartori’s familiar during his time in the Fifth Dominion.
Chapel of Rest A rented warehouse near the river where Dowd kept his Voiders. It’s also the place where Oscar Godolphin brought Dowd back amongst the living with a ritual he’d acquired from Peccable.
Charlie Estabrook Fifty-six-year-old son of Esmond Bloom Godolphin and brother of Oscar Godolphin. He’d made his fortune selling baths, bidets, and toilets. He was Judith’s husband for five years, as well as the man who hired the assassin Pie ‘oh’ pah to murder her.
Charlotte Feaver The last of the Roxborough line, Charlotte is one of two female members in the modern incarnation of the Tabula Rasa. Also known as Charlotte the Scarlet.

Ched Lo Ched Province of the Third Dominion caught in the twin pincers of poverty and puritanism. Ched Lo Ched means “the flowering place.”
Chester Gentle’s Doeki acquired in the village of Beatrix. He’d affectionately named the beast Chester after his friend Chester Klein back in the Fifth Dominion.
Chester Klein Art dealer specializing in forgeries of classical art. Klein functions as Gentle’s employer, broker, and confidant, especially in the arena of the fairer sex. A self-proclaimed “patron of the arts by diverse hands.”
Chianculi A public gathering place within the Eurhetemec Kesparate. In brighter times, it served as an auditorium, often hosting circuses the likes of which the Fifth Dominion has never seen.
Chicka Jackeen Maestro who represented the First Dominion during the Reconciliation. Chicka Jackeen translates to “worthless fellow,” a name he was given when the Dearthers first arrived at the Erasure. Chicka had waited two hundred years to take part in the Reconciliation, learning feits to hide himself from the passing of time. See also Lucius Cobbitt.
Christos Failed reconciler and, technically, Gentle’s half brother. Though he lived his life in the Fifth, the profound influence of Christos’ life and teachings can be witnessed throughout the dominions.
Cimarra Sakeo Author of one of the many floating prayers that swirled their way up the slopes of Yzordderrex to the Goddesses.
City of Hapexamendios Enormous and immaculately constructed city of the First Dominion that composes the body of Hapexamendios. Also known as His City.
Clara Leash Former member of the Tabula Rasa who’d been given the near impossible task of cataloging the texts collected within the Tabula Rasa Library. She’d suffered a stroke while doing so, and eleven years later plotted against the Tabula Rasa. She’d aided Judith in an attempt to free Celestine from the walls of Roxborough’s Tower.
Clem Former banker and loyal friend to both Gentle and Judith. He was also a volunteer helping the homeless along the South Bank. Clem, along with the spirit of his deceased partner Taylor Briggs, was an essential aide to Gentle during and after the Reconciliation.
Coaxial Tasko Once a king in the Third Dominion, Tasko now resides in the hills overlooking the village of Beatrix. His tribe is believed to be extinct. Though he’s referred to as “Wretched Tasko” by Beatrixians, they rely on him for guidance and wisdom.
Coliacic Second Dominion fish, known to dine on the fish the Ugichee lives in. A culinary delicacy to the initiated, with flesh like butter.
Comte de Saint-Germain Another name for Prince Francis Ragoczy of Transylvania, a reputed alchemist, Cabbalist, and thaumaturge. The Comte de Saint-Germain was a contemporary of the Maestro Sartori and was known to keep the company of Joshua Godolphin.
Concupiscentia Quasoir’s dutiful servant and one time lover of the Autarch Sartori. A curious creature who was always quick to supply Kreauchee whenever needed.

Corot Jean-Baptiste Camille Corot (1796–1875); French painter known for his Italian landscapes. His work is a specialty of Duncan Skeet, master art forger.
Cosacosa A region of lagoons in the Fourth Dominion.
Cradle Lady See Tishallulé.
Cradle of Chzercemit An inland sea in the heart of the Third Dominion. The Maison de Santé sits atop an island at its center. The sea’s waters turn solid when sunlight is absent, making it impossible to drive or walk to the island when the sun is shining. The Cradle is also home to Tishallulé, imprisoned in the sea by Hapexamendios as he crossed the Third Dominion.
Culus ‘su’ erai An elderly Eurhetemec appointed to lead the surviving citizens of the Eurhetemec Kesparate. She was acting judge at the trial of Pie ‘oh’ pah upon his return to his home Kesparate.
Curiosity Refers to Oscar Godolphin’s misshapen penis.

Dearth See Dearthers.
Dearther Encampment The Dearthers’ collection of wind tortured tents at the border of the First and Second Dominion. From this position, the Dearth studied the Erasure, looking for signs of divine activity while worshiping the lost Goddesses.
Dearthers Religious tribe devoted to the worship of Goddesses vanquished by Hapexamendios during His journey to the First Dominion. Led by Father Athanasius, the Dearthers’ base of operations is at the border of the First Dominion overlooking the Erasure. Dearthers are fierce warriors, ready to defend their ideologies to the death.
Deliquium Kesparate Artistic district of Yzordderrex and home to Pluthero Quexos’ famous Ipse. Tourists visiting Yzordderrex invariably include the Deliquium in their agenda, a fact which local merchants rely heavily on.
Dies natalis solis invictus ”The birth of the unconquered sun.”
Doeki A distant relation to the Fifth Dominion’s Yak, doeki are beasts of burden commonly used in the Third Dominion. Gentle and Pie ‘oh’ pah used doeki to ascend the peaks of the Jokalaylau.
Donkey Dick One of the puppet performers from the comedy Gentle watched in Beatrix.
Doppelganger A ghostly double of a living person, especially one that haunts its worldy counterpart.
Dotterel The Peccable family’s pet parrot whose life ended in the jaws of a ragemy. Dotterel had been a gift from Oscar Godolphin during one of his many visits to Yzordderrex.
Dowd, Kuttner Ever true to the teachings of Pluthero Quexos, Kuttner Dowd (also known as Augustine) managed to place himself at the heart of the Imajica’s great dramas. Divine pimp, perennial servant to the Godolphin line, actor chappie, and occasional murderer, Dowd’s list of follies and crimes is legendary.
Dreadlocks Albino man sporting white dreadlocks living in the gypsy encampment where Charlie Estabrook first encounters Pie ‘oh’ pah. A threatening countenance in any environment.
Duncan Skeet One of Chester Klein’s master art forgers. Chester harbors a profound dislike of Skeet, but cannot argue with the man’s artistic talents or the rate at which his paintings sell.
Duomo Refers to the Cathedral Santa Maria del Fiore located in Florence, Italy.
Effatoi Third Dominion city the size of Amsterdam and with that city’s charm. It’s known for being a gambler’s paradise, as well as for its confectionary delights. Gentle affectionately dubbed the town Attaboy.
Efreet Splendid Young son of Larumday Splendid who aided Gentle and Pie ‘oh’ pah during their brief visit in Beatrix.
Elgar Sir Edward Elgar (1857–1934); British composer most noted for his “Pomp and Circumstance” marches.
Eloigin Splendid The head of the Splendid family, missing since a recent journey to Yzordderrex to persuade his brother from the Autarch’s ranks.
Emblem Splendid Larumday Splendid’s youngest son.
Ensor
James Ensor (1860–1949); Belgian painter whose works influenced surrealism and often feature nightmarish, masked faces. Ensor was the subject for one of Gentle’s most lucrative forgeries.
Erasure The border between the Second and First Dominion, perpetually shrouded in a dense, often turbulent fog. The Dearthers, whose Encampment overlooks the Erasure, study this border for prophetic signs of happenings within the First.
Esmond Bloom Godolphin Father of Charlie Estabrook and Oscar Godolphin. Though he was a member of the Tabula Rasa, he knew more about the Dominions than he perhaps should have. He kept this forbidden knowledge in the form of a journal, which Oscar later used to discover the trick of Dominion hopping.
Esther Roxborough Thomas Roxborough’s sister; one of the many fatalities of Maestro Sartori’s failed Reconciliation. She had traveled to Clerkenwell in the hopes of indulging in the Maestro Sartori’s legendary romantic reputation.
Eurhetemec An ancient tribe originating from the First Dominion before Hapexamendios’ occupation. Following their exile from their homeland, the Eurhetemecs set roots in Yzordderrex, founding their own Kesparate in the city. Since the beginning of the Autarch’s reign, the Eurhetemecs have been systematically reduced to a mere handful of surviving members.
Eurhetemec Kesparate After being exiled from their native soil in the First Dominion, the Eurhetemecs made their homes on the outskirts of Yzordderrex. The Eurhetemec Kesparate is a gated suburb and its inhabitants are wary of outside guests. Pie ‘oh’ pah was born in the Eurhetemec Kesparate.

Father Athanasius Leader and high priest of the Dearthers, Father Athanasius represented the Second Dominion for the Synod during the Reconciliation. Athanasius’ physical resemblance to Christ may be more than coincidental.

Feit of Holding A complex ritual that offers a Maestro protection from the physical constraints of aging.
First World Another name for the First Dominion.
Fitzgerald See Gentle.
Floccus Dado Loyal servant to Father Athanasius and invaluable ally to Gentle. Floccus provided Gentle transport to the Dearther Encampment at the border of the Second and First Dominion.
Flores Bearing a letter of introduction from Casanova himself, Flores was amongst the “privileged” few to witness Maestro Sartori’s first attempt at Reconciliation. Like many of her fellow spectators, however, she was torn apart by the atrocities that escaped from the breach in the In Ovo that followed.
Flotter Second Dominion playwright and contemporary of Pluthero Quexos. Flotter’s works have only recently become popular among Yzordderrex’s neo-thespians.
Flute’s Visions A volume that attempts to map the regions of the In Ovo. It is an invaluable tool for travelers that frequently cross between the Fifth and her sister Dominions through the In Ovo. Lucius Cobbitt had studied this, and many other tomes, during his tenure with the Maestro Sartori.
Fly Freddy’s brother.
Fourth King Though the gospels invariably fail to mention him, there was a Fourth King present following the birth of Christ. He’d written a book about his search for the Reconciler which, for a time, was lost amongst the thousands of volumes in the depths of the Tabula Rasa Library. It is believed that this Fourth King was the first to write the term Imajica.
Freddy The doorman at Marlin’s apartment building in Manhattan.
Fuseli Henry Fuseli (1741–1825); Swiss-born British painter whose works display a fantastic, macabre quality that influenced the surrealists of the 1920s and 1930s.
Gamut Street Maestro Sartori made his home at #28 Gamut Street in the heart of Clerkenwell.
Gate of Saints Gated entrance leading into the walled Yzordderrexian Palace. The poor and destitute citizens often visit the Gate of Saints in search of sustenance in the form of free food hanging from statues of Saints Creaze and Evendown.
Gaud Maybellome’s Encyclopedia of Heavenly Signs Written in the language of the Third, but widely translated, the Encyclopedia intended to catalog all of the flora, fauna, languages, sciences, religions, ideas, and moral perspectives found in the Fifth Dominion. Gaud Maybellome managed to finish eighteen volumes, but died while writing the nineteenth.
Gauguin Paul Gauguin (1848–1903); French master painter and one of Gentle’s forging specialties. Gauguin is said to be partially responsible for the significance of primitivism in modern art.
Geiss the Whitherer Comet that graces the Second Dominion skies and provides its illumination. Its slow, trailing arc makes Second Dominion days much longer than the Fifth’s.
Gek-a-gek Feared among the feared, the Gek-a-gek are a particularly nasty variety of Oviate. Difficult to summon, they are massive as tigers, with hands the size of a man’s head and heads as flat as a man’s hand. Sartori summoned Gek-a-gek using the freshly disemboweled corpse of Monica.
Gentile See Gentle.
Gentle Perhaps the greatest swayworker of all time, Gentle is a man with many names and many lives. His past is shrouded in confusion by a magical working that forced him to forget the pain of his past for nearly two centuries. He is healer of the Imajica and the reconciler of the Dominions. Also known as Almoth, Bastard Boy, Joseph Bellamy, Michael Morrison, Fitzgerald, Maestro Sartori, John Furie Zacharias, Zach, Zacho, Mr. Zee, or John the Divine.
Geoffrey Light Architect of the Retreat who died within six months of its completion. He’d been found choked by a bull’s pizzle in West Riding, the circumstances of which were never publicly revealed.
Gideon One of Chester Klein’s associates and master forger. Gideon specializes in Renaissance pieces, though he’s been known to paint a Dalí if the price is right.
Giles Bloxham One of the Tabula Rasa’s youngest and least productive members. Bloxham attends his duty to the Society with little passion, enjoying its benefits and sloughing off its responsibilities with calculated ease.
Gloriana One of Chester Klein’s five cats, this one being particularly obese and often in heat.
Gloss A dialect commonly used in Vanaeph that is comprised of two-parts English, one-part Latin, and some Fourth Dominion dialect that consisted of tongue clicks and teeth tappings. Gloss relies heavily on the speaker’s facial expressions, subsequently making long-distance communication an impossibility.
Glyph A being’s essence formed in light; a shifting Moebius strip that, when stripped of flesh and feature, defines each creature within the Imajica. It is one’s true self reduced to its most basic form.

Goetic Kicaranki Nuns Religious order of nuns in the Third Dominion particularly despised in Mai’ke. Their shaved, mud-plastered heads and voluminous robes make them easily recognizable. The Kicaranki have a strange custom of covering their mouths with both hands cupped while speaking, producing their trademark, hollowed voices.
Goya Francisco José de Goya (1746–1828); Spanish artist whose works depicted the social and political turmoil of his time. Gentle had forged, and sold, a piece by Goya.
Graveolents The Third Dominion’s answer to the common rodent. Gentle and Pie ‘oh’ pah witnessed these rat-like creatures building their nests between the railroad tracks near Mai-ké.

Hairstone Banty Mai-ké’s resident informant, gossip monger, and misaligned psychic.
Hakaridek The Second Dominion’s largest city outside of Yzordderrex, though less than one tenth the latter’s size. Hakaridek is known for its unrivaled seafood markets and its backstreet armories.
Hapexamendios The major God of the Imajica. History tells that Hapexamendios traveled across the Dominions, from the Fourth
to the First, purging the Imajica of his rival deities and their followers. He built his city within the First Dominion and secluded himself behind the dense wall of fog between the First and Second Dominion known as the Erasure. He is the father of Gentle, and if historians are accurate, the father of Christos. Also known as the Unbeheld, the Aboriginal, and the Father of the Imajica.
Happi Third Dominion hamlet known for its English Tudor–styled architecture. The town was founded by a rare immigrant from the Fifth whose sketches of his homeland had inspired local builders.
GLYPH
Hebbert Nuits St. Georges Peccable Oscar Godolphin’s business associate in Yzordderrex and father of Hoi-Polloi Peccable. Peccable, as he is usually referred to, deals in exotic artifacts from across the Dominions, but specializes in selling Fifth Dominion items in the Second.
Henry Holland The architect of Thomas Roxborough’s original house. A brilliant architect and noted public figure in his day, though his addiction to absinthe eventually cost him his notoriety.
Heratae Hammeryock A beloved Maestro from the Fourth Dominion who lost his life during Maestro Sartori’s first attempt at reconciliation. The Hammeryock name continues to be synonymous with power in the Fourth Dominion.
Heratea Species commonly seen on the streets of Yzordderrex whose ancestors shared a common branch with the Beatrixians in the Third Dominion. Heratea have a reputation for being exceptionally shrewd businessmen.
Hezoir University city in the Second Dominion reduced to rubble by the Autarch’s army. It is rumored that the brains of its students were literally scooped out of their skulls and heaped up in the streets.
High Pass of Jokalaylau A treacherous path through the snowy peaks of the Jokalaylau mountain range. The High Pass winds from the foothills in Beatrix to the borders of the Third Dominion.
Hills of the Conscious Cloud Tranquil region of the Third Dominion where Oscar Godolphin hoped to retire and raise parrots. A sect of scholarly monks inhabit the peaks of the region’s twin mountains, giving the area its name.
