  “Close your eyes,” he whispered.

She did as he told her to do, anticipating what was going to happen next. She suddenly felt his stubble against her cheek as his lips laid gentle kisses upon her skin. Each kiss grew closer to her mouth, and the anticipation of his lips reaching hers felt like forever. Finally, she felt the last kiss on the corner of her mouth, knowing that the next one would be it. She slightly parted her lips, silently inviting him to kiss her.

She felt his lips touch hers, and by instinct she kissed back. The stubble on his face tickled and scratched on hers, but she enjoyed the sensation that she had never felt before. His tongue lightly flicked in her mouth, reaching for hers, inviting it to dance. She obliged and mimicked his movements, learning how to kiss from an ancient expert. The moment was exhilarating; not only was she having her first kiss, but it was with Aidan, the oldest and most powerful vampire in the world.

He continued slowly, allowing her to become more comfortable. She gained some confidence after a while and angled herself toward him. She placed her arms on his shoulders and wrapped them around his neck, lightly caressing his hairline with her thumb. He kept one hand on the back of her head, keeping her in place. His free hand caressed downward along her neck, across her shoulder, and down her arm before landing on her waist. His large, strong hand grasped her shapely curve and pulled her body closer to his.

She had never been grabbed by a man like that; full of passion and desire. Oddly, she was comfortable with Aidan, but she knew it was because he was her maker. She trusted him with all of her being, and wanted nothing more than for him to be her first. Although she had been a wild child during her human life, she still had morals when it came to premarital sex. Oddly, she felt those morals lining up, holding hands, and happily skipping out the door as she pawed at Aidan.

Emma grabbed Aidan by the collar of his shirt, forcing him on to her. She angled herself and scooted down, so that she was now lying on the couch with Aidan between her thighs. She ran her hands down his broad, muscular back before reaching his hips, and pulling them to her. He slid one arm underneath her and around her back and shifted his weight forward, standing from the sofa with her legs still wrapped around him.

“What are you doing?” She breathed in between kisses.

“This is your first time with a man; you deserve a bed, not a sofa,” he replied as he began to carry her over to her bed.

He gently set her down on the edge and allowed her to scoot herself toward the middle. He crawled along with her, hovering over her and never letting his lips leave her mouth. When she found her spot on the bed, Aidan lowered himself onto her, pressing his weight against her. She wrapped her arms around him and pawed at his back, pulling his weight onto her. As his kisses became more aggressive, his hips began to rise and grind against her. She had never felt the sensation of having someone between her thighs before; it was exhilarating and she craved more. She felt the throbbing from deep within, yearning to take all of him in.

She nervously and slowly moved her hands down his massive back until they reached his buttocks. She had never laid her hands on a man like that before, but her natural vampire instinct was taking over. She squeezed his cheeks and pulled him in rhythmic thrusts against her, grinding from underneath him.

For the first time in years, Aidan was sweet, caring, and gentle. Normally if he wanted to have sex with a girl, human or vampire, it was to do the deed and get to the gratification part. However, with Emma it was different. He made her to be a queen, so he felt that she deserved the highest respect when it came to her first time.

For Emma, he was all she could have dreamed to be for her first time with a man. He was all man; masculine, experienced, strong, and powerful. She was glad to have him as her first and knew he wouldn’t be her last. She had forever on earth to have new experiences; but that night she belonged to him.

He briefly climbed off of her and took hold of the bottom of her nightgown, pulling it over her head, and exposing her bare body. He removed his shirt, wiggled out of his pants, and resumed his position on top of her.

“Are you sure you want to?” He whispered into her ear as he slowly entered her.

She bit her bottom lip and nodded, even though the pain was nothing of what she expected. At that point, she didn’t see what all the fuss was about; it was awful! How could they call this pleasure? It didn’t feel good, it hurt and she wasn’t sure if she ever wanted to do it again.

Once Aidan’s entire length was in her, he began to slowly move his hips back and forth. She had hoped since she was a vampire that the experience might be different for her, however she learned that it was just the same. She never had anything in her private parts before, and the first time there is, it happens to be a very large Scotsman. His pace picked up and he rhythmically slid in and out of her, grunting with each thrust. Emma didn’t feel like anything would be achieved on her end, and frankly she just wanted it over with.

She squeezed her eyes shut and gritted her teeth as she felt Aidan become harder inside her, nearing his climax. She had no idea what to expect when it happened, so she braced herself by holding onto his back. He tried to be as gentle as he could while reaching his orgasm, not allowing himself to go as deep as he would’ve liked. He had experience with virgins before and was well aware that Emma was not going to join him at the top. He buried his face into her shoulder, let out a long groan, and rapidly slowed his rhythm. Emma assumed that he was done.

“Are you all right, love?” He asked as he climbed off of her and laid down by her side.

She nodded, “I’m alright, that hurt though! I don’t know if I’ll be doing it again anytime soon.”

Aidan chuckled, “It does get better once you get used to it, I promise. We’ll keep doing it until you start to enjoy it, if you want to.”

Emma rolled under her side to face him, pulling the sheets up to cover her breasts. She gazed at his magnificent face; handsome yet rugged, intimidating yet gentle. At twenty-five years old, she had accepted the fact that she was not interested in any man in town. She was not interested in marrying anyone, which meant she would not experience sharing a bed with a man. However, being a vampire, she was free to do whatever and whoever she wanted. Being an immortal was liberating and she had Aidan to thank for that.

Emma’s eyes refocused to her present day bedroom, and turned her head to the sofa where Aidan gave her an experience that one gets to do once in their life…lose their virginity. She smiled, fondly remembering the night with him.

  CHAPTER 5

Zachariah and Daniel drove south on I-94 headed toward Chicago, but with no destination in particular. Zachariah was still trying to come up with a plan for Daniel to have his first feed straight from the vein. After spending so many years with Emma, he had adopted her mindset of not wanting to hurt people. He didn’t feel like anyone deserved to die, not even those who probably did. He didn’t exactly want to go around town like a vigilante, looking for someone who had done something so heinous that death would be justice served.

He even considered going to a hospice care facility, and finding someone with no family and who was ready to go. But, he felt that those people should die with dignity, and not because they have been drained by vampire. He even considered stopping by the prison in finding someone who just needed to be taken out. However, he didn’t feel like it was his job in the world to determine someone’s fate.

“Hey, do you think we could stop by my condo quick?” Daniel asked. “My phone charger and a few other things are there. When Declan took me so abruptly the other day, he obviously didn’t give me a moment to collect my things.”

“What? You mean you didn’t say, ‘Just a sec before you kidnap me, I need to charge my phone! Gotta update my Facebook status from chillin’ to kidnapped.’?” Zachariah laughed.

Daniel snorted; the only way for them to ease the emotional pain of what had happened was through humor. He knew Zachariah wasn’t trying to joke about the horrible thing
that had happened to him. Zachariah was still in pain from the deceit and the loss of his dear friend, Declan. He was so angry at him for all of the awful things he did; the only way he could get past it was by making a joke. He didn’t deal with trauma well.

“Why don’t we go after you feed?” He suggested to Daniel.

“No, it’s on the way and I brought some jugs of blood with me to chug. I’ll be okay—we’ll zip in and out of the building.”

Zachariah had never visited Daniel’s downtown getaway before, so he was eager to see his bachelor pad with a spectacular view. As the elevator rose to the eighty-sixth floor, Daniel realized that his ears no longer popped on the way up. It was something he had grown accustomed to after living in his condo for nearly a year. The elevator dinged when they reached his floor, and Daniel led the way to his door as he fished the keys from his pocket.

He blankly looked at the frame, remembering the events that had taken place the last time he was there. The knock on his door, and his utter stupidity for not looking through the peephole first. That one, tiny mistake quite possibly has set the pace for everything that had happened to him since. If he had just looked through that peephole to see Declan waiting for him, he may not have ever become a vampire…at least not so soon. He then realized that if Declan had really wanted him, he would have gotten him one way or another. It’s not like the door would’ve held him back; he would have just broken it down.

As Daniel slid the key into the lock, Zachariah grabbed his wrist and his head was raised in alarm. “Do you hear that? It sounds like your TV.”

Daniel paused for a moment and remembered, “I was watching TV when I was kidnapped. It’s still on!”

Zachariah nodded and allowed him to proceed opening the door. As they stepped in the foyer inside, they both breathed in through their noses, taking in the sentence. Daniel’s eyes widened and he became paralyzed with thirst. Zachariah recognized the human scent in the condo, remembering it from the premiere.

“It’s Brianna’s scent,” Zachariah noted to Daniel. “I’m assuming she has been here recently because the smell is still pretty strong.”

Daniel continued to breathe it in, savoring the sweet aroma of what he craved. They then paused when they heard the thumping of a heartbeat coming from another room. Daniel’s nerves practically vibrated as he glared down the hallway leading to the living room. His lips slightly parted as his new, white, gleaming fangs inched their way down. A whisper-soft growl rumbled in his chest as he instinctively prepared to attack.

Zachariah quickly realized that Brianna was actually in the condo, and it wasn’t just her scent that was lingering. He dashed behind Daniel and grabbed him by the arms, seizing him from darting down the foyer. A roar escaped from his mouth as he fought against Zachariah’s grasp, thrashing from side to side while trying to pull his arms free.

Brianna jumped up off the couch where she had been laying and watching TV, screaming at the sound that she heard coming from the foyer. It sounded like a large animal; one that was extremely angry. She couldn’t see down the hallway from where the couch was and was too afraid to investigate. She began to panic, and her eyes darted around the room looking for a place to hide. There was a large cupboard underneath the island in the open kitchen. She darted across the room as quietly as she could, and pulled the door open with shaky hands. She curled into a ball and crawled in, pulling the door shut behind her, but slowing its spring with her hand so it wouldn’t slam. She sat with her knees pulled close to her chest and her arms wrapped around her legs, wishing she could see what was going on outside. Her breathing was ragged, anxious through her mouth as she tried to stay as quiet as possible. She never anticipated that the beast in the hallway would be able to smell her location, no matter how well she hid.

  “Daniel, calm down!” Zachariah commanded.

Daniel? Brianna thought to herself as she heard the familiar voice.

She could hear the squeaking of sneakers against the marble floor in the foyer, clearly there was a struggle occurring. She used the tip of her pinky finger to wedge the door slightly open. She closed one eye and peered through the tiny slit with her open one. She was frustrated that her line of vision was so limited. All she could see was a tiny portion of the living room, but no one had appeared in there yet.

“Daniel! Get a hold of yourself! Rein it in!”

“Let me go, Zachariah!” Daniel snarled loudly.

Zachariah? Brianna thought to herself. Is that Zachariah and Daniel out there? But, Daniel didn’t sound like her Daniel. Perhaps he was sick? Why was he so crazy? But, that didn’t explain the sound of an animal in the foyer. She wondered what kind it was.

She slowly pushed the cupboard door open and slowly emerged. “Daniel?” She called as she crawled out.

“Stay back, Brianna!” Zachariah demanded. “Do not come around this corner!”

“Is Daniel with you?” She asked while ignoring his warning, beginning to walk toward the hallway.

“Yes, but I need you to stay back. He’s not himself.”

She heard another roar erupt from the hallway leading to the foyer, causing her to stop in her tracks. “Did you bring an animal up here?”

  “You could say that.”

“What kind of animal is it? Is it big?”

“A dangerous one. Do. Not. Come. Any. Closer.” He spoke each word with urgency, knowing she would probably be dumb enough to ignore them.

Of course, he was right, and her curiosity got the best of her as she continued to make her way toward them. She heard the shuffling of their feet getting closer, knowing that they were moving down the hallway. She turned the corner, eager to see what kind of animal was with them, but found herself face-to-face with the beast himself.

Zachariah was still holding on to Daniel, who looked like himself, but didn’t. He was pale; so white that he looked like the walking dead. There were dark circles under his eyes and his lips had a bluish tinge to them. The sight of him made her jump and gasp.

“Daniel, are you okay?” She sputtered.

His eyes were dark; the color was still blue, but there was an entirely different person lingering behind them. He allowed his body to lean forward, with his arms stretched behind him as Zachariah still held onto his wrists. It was an awkward position that didn’t look right. His head cocked slightly to the side as his eyes fixated on the meal before him.

With a raised eyebrow, Brianna scoffed, “Okay…so where’s the animal that I heard?”

Daniel’s lips slightly parted, revealing the tips of his fangs. A slow, sadistic smile spread across his face as he reveled in the reaction from his prey. Brianna’s eyes widened in confused horror; not quite understanding what she was looking at. There was no way for her to comprehend what Daniel had become. The last time she saw him, he was wasted from the drugs she had slipped into his drink just days earlier.

Brianna’s fear paralyzed her, not allowing her to move. But, she screamed in terror once she was able to register what she was looking at. A vampire. Her Daniel was a vampire.

“Oh gosh, what has happened to you?” She stammered. “Did the drugs do this to you?”

It was like a switch was flipped in Daniel’s head as he recalled what she did to him at the party. She slipped drugs into his drinks to get him out of the way. She encouraged bad behavior throughout their relationship. She treated his family and friends like garbage, always looking down on them. The thought that provoked his anger the most, was how she treated Emma. Not only was she his aunt/sister, but now she was his maker and he was fiercely protective of her.

The smile disappeared from his face as the thoughts paraded through his head. His expression went from sadistic to furious, as he thought of all the things Brianna used to say about Emma. All the names she would call her. All the bad-mouthing. Everything. It made his whole body surge with anger.

Daniel lunged forward and took a snap at her, missing her skin by inches. Her survival instincts kicked in and allowed her t
o move, causing her to jump backward. She quickly turned and ran back toward the living room, which provoked Daniel’s inner hunter. He craved the cat and mouse chase; or in this case, the vampire and human chase. There was nowhere for her to go; she was trapped in the condo as long as Daniel was in the hallway blocking the front door. Sure, she could’ve gone out onto the balcony, but they were on the eighty-sixth floor, so what good was that?

At that point, Zachariah knew that there was no taming the beast. Now that Daniel had a one-on-one whiff of a human, that just so happened to be trapped, there was no way he would settle down. Zachariah didn’t want to spend his days holding Daniel back; because really, it could go on that long. He had a quick inner debate about letting Daniel go and allowing him to feast on Brianna.

Zachariah sighed, “I never liked her, anyway…” He loosened his grip from Daniel’s wrists, allowing him to break free the moment he could get away.

Daniel took off so fast behind her that she didn’t hear him coming. Before she could reach her hiding spot in the kitchen, Daniel appeared in front of her, causing her to scream again. There was nowhere to run, nowhere to hide. He would find her no matter where she went. In that split moment of being face-to-face with the world’s most dangerous predator, she accepted her fate. She was well aware that this was the moment that she was most likely going to die; and at the hands, or teeth rather, of someone that she thought she knew. In that fraction of a second, she wondered if Daniel had been a vampire during their entire relationship. But, surely she would’ve known.

His eyes were wild with thirst. The rapid thumping of her heart only intensified his craving with each beat. Deep down inside of him, he didn’t want to do this; his conscience was telling him that it was wrong. But, he couldn’t help himself.

The silence between them during their face-off seemed to last for several minutes, especially for Brianna. As she had a moment to ponder what was about to happen, she almost wanted to tell him to hurry up and do it, just to get it over with.
