by Nina Levine
As I stepped through the door, I glanced back at the cab. He stood beside it watching me. I held his gaze for what felt like forever, but neither of us moved.
When I finally closed the door behind me, I sagged against it and slid down to the floor.
Love was agony.
The choices I’d made that had ultimately destroyed us had been made for love. The first choice had been to save both of us. The second one had been to save him. And it had broken me in the process.

Jodie O’Brien - my beta reader and assistant and all round cheerleader. Honestly, I’m fairly certain none of my books would get written without Jodie’s ongoing support. She knows my patterns, she knows how shit always goes down with my deadlines, and she always steps in at exactly that moment I need someone to tell me that I can do this. I’m notoriously bad about hitting my deadlines right at the very last second. Every book has one day where I work on average 29 hours straight to get it finished, formatted and uploaded. That’s the day Jodie pep talks the fuck out of me and makes me believe I can take on the world lol. She stays up late with me and she gets up super early to check in and see if I need anything. King’s book required a lot more than just one of those pep talks, though. This book has been the biggest struggle of my writing career to date, for many reasons. I’ll be honest and tell you I wasn’t sure some days if it would ever get finished. It felt hard. Super fucking hard. Hard enough that I actually contemplated what I would do if I never published a book again. If you’re a writer and you’ve been struggling with writer’s block, I’m here to tell you that I truly believe it is a thing, but I also believe there comes a point where it becomes a story you tell yourself and buy into. My block stemmed from burnout, grief and physical pain, but there did come that point where I totally bought into it. The day I stopped that was only a few weeks before I published this book. I then sat down and wrote up to 5k a day to get her done. Jodie, you were there with me every step of the way, and I will be forever grateful for your friendship, encouragement and support. And girl, we have our girls weekend to look forward to now!! TWICE because of King’s Reign!!

Becky Johnson - my beautiful, kind, giving and amazing editor. You made this book possible, Becky, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart. I am so thankful for the way you put up with my deadline bullshit. I’m also grateful for your friendship and support. I am so very glad Jodie convinced me to ask you to work with me all those years ago.

Trisha Wolfe - girl, I am so glad I found you last year!! And the day you said you’d beta read King’s book for me was a fangirl down moment for me! Thank you so much for reading and supporting me through the writing of this book. I can not wait to finally meet you later this year! (For any readers reading this, check out Trisha’s books if you love dark romance! She is one of my favourite authors, and one of the only authors I drop everything for to read her books when they’re released. Her writing is stunning.)

MM - thank you so much for guiding me on police procedure and helping me get that part of the story right. But besides that, thank you for being such a light when I see you or speak with you. Whenever I think of you, I see that gorgeous smile of yours. We really should hang out more <3

Letitia Hasser - my beautiful and talented cover designer. Thank you for nailing these covers for me! I love them so much. You are so amazing to me - thank you for everything.

My Stormchasers (Levine’s Ladies) - you girls! Gah! I fucking love you all to the moon and back! The amount of support you offer me blows my mind. There aren’t enough words to express my gratitude for you all. Thank you <3

My bloggers - So many of you have been with me from the beginning, and for that, I FUCKING LOVE YOU! And to my newer bloggers, so glad you found my books! Thank you for absolutely everything you all do <3

Eliahn - you may never read this, beautiful girl, but in case you do, I am seriously blessed to have been given a daughter as amazing as you. I never expected to have the relationship with you that I do. You love me unconditionally, you don’t hold grudges, you give it to me straight but with kindness, you look after me when I’m struggling, and you buy me Thai for dinner when I’m on my long deadline day even though you would prefer anything but Thai. You are my person. You and Jodie. You girls make me love me better when I’m with you.

When I’m not creating with words you will find me planning my next getaway, visiting somewhere new in the world, having a long conversation over coffee and cake with a friend, creating with paper or curled up with a good book and chocolate.

I’ve been writing since I was twelve. Weaving words together has always been a form of therapy for me especially during my harder times. These days I’m proud that my words help others just as much as they help me.
