Dragons of Destiny Page 25

Dregan moved to attack Rotu, but he didn’t dare drop Alrukar, because he thought Arius was mostly incoherent and held prisoner below.

Arrows rained down on him since he was immobilized by the extra weight of the fledging Black dragon. All the while, Arius scaled the Gold dragon, using its plated armor as handholds. It was precarious climbing because of the random gusts that threatened to pull him down to earth, but before long, he made it onto its tail and then its back. Up ahead, Dregan staved off countless arrows while trying to remove the shaft that jutted from the top of his back near his right shoulder blade. The arrow stuck in one of the only infinitesimal openings on his Shadow Priest armor.

  Hells of a shot, Xavian!

Dregan was so engrossed in fighting Xavian that he never noticed as Arius pulled out Alrukar’s sword, crawling steadily towards him, and slashed loose his saddle. Dregan spun, panic filling his gray eyes as tried to drag Arius with him as he fell. Instead, Arius rose and shoved a booted foot into his face to help hasten the fall. The Gold dragon dropped Alrukar and dove to retrieve his brother. Arius moved to plant the blade into the soft spot in between its armor, directly through its skull and into its brainstem. Before he could act, Arius felt Dregan tap his own Adimus Aura, and an energy strike punched him off the Gold dragon, dazing him and sending him free-falling to the ground.

In his haze, he watched as Rotu came to claim him while Dregan released another attack simultaneously aimed at Rotu and Xavian both.

Xavian was so intent on catching Arius that he wasn’t aware of the fact that he was about to be blown out of the sky. Arius blacked out as he plummeted.

  Just like my nightmares…

Was his final thought as the darkness swallowed him.
