“Someone high up in the Vatican must have an exceedingly refined sense of humour. Ouch, ouch, and ouch again for Michele.”
Miriam felt nothing for him, not now that she had Inma. “Cariño mio, there is one thing still bothering me. Are those programs on the Opus machines, those which mined your Bitcoins, still running? Will you still be receiving new ones?”
Inma smiled beatifically, looking her finest. She raised her glass. “To us!”
CHAPTER EIGHTEEN
Acknowledgements
The original idea for this book occurred when working with Ray Wang and Dennis Kanemitsu at Constellation Research: the former offered the opening to share the idea while the latter was the first to alert me that he found the HolyPhone concept both interesting and entertaining and that he thought others might feel the same.
After that too many people to mention were kind enough to suffer my strange musings. In so doing they helped me to develop and then refine the ideas behind the story.
Eric Olverson, Anura Guruge, Una Boyce, Marcus Ronchetti, Emily Nomer and Ian Murphy were the guinea pigs who read early draughts and gave me valued input.
Lourdes Cobaleda studiously corrected my mistakes in Spanish and Italian.
Finally, my wife and daughters put up with hearing and rehearing what they probably never wanted to hear again – for which all my thanks are due.
All the idiocies, errors and mistakes are of my own making.
