“I'm here,” Gabriel said with his arms crossed. His wings soon dissipated into his back as he landed and looked down. “Not all of them are demons down there, brothers. But we must stop whatever it is they're doing.” Then he stopped for a second as he heard a woman scream below. “Let's go.”
Deciding that I'd follow, I jumped down from the ledge to an open window without making a sound. Weird. I must be like a ghost or something because I walked straight through Ben. He shivered as if I gave him the cold shoulder.
“Something's wrong,” Ben said, looking around. Then he stepped to the side as he felt dark waves of energy through him. “Of course,” a voice hissed. “It's you.”
A man came out of the shadows with a dark smirk on his face. Dave's and Gabriel's plausible expressions went blank upon seeing him. “Theron?” Gabriel asked, hiding his shock. The man nodded. He must be a fallen angel.
“Hi brothers,” Theron said as he stretched his arms. Noticing none of them came forward, he put his hands down. “I thought we'd all be friendly.” Then the arch angel merely shook his head.
“Seriously, what are you doing down here?” Gabriel asked, raising a brow. “We haven't seen you in months.” The angel then laughed.
“Oh brother. I can't go back,” Theron said with a smirk. “I have no wings to carry me.” With that, the other angel's mouths dropped agape in shock. “You should see what those feathers do here. They're great to sell for money and anglstrimine.” Then everyone seemed puzzled as he said that. “But alias, it's rare. Reason why she's here.” The man pointed at the woman in the corner, currently scowling at him. “Mind introducing yourself?”
As he said that, his demon friends stayed close around here. “Amenthia Damnfelt,” she said feverishly, sending waves of hate through his friends. They covered their ears, as they were affected by her emotions “Now let me go.” Then all of them erupted into laughter Theron just seemed lost in malicious thought. The look sent a chill down her spine.
“No, it took us forever to track you. We will take what we want then send you home,” Theron said emphatically. The woman then slouched back, whimpering. But her eyes seemed to find mine with hope in her eyes.
“Come here child,” I heard her whisper. So I inched closer, only to see the demons eyeing her like she was a nut case. “Kill me now.” She pointed at her heart. “Put your hand there.” Everything seemed to become silent as the angel watched her closely. He started to laugh. “You won't be leaving anytime soon.”
With that, I let a tear fall before reaching for her. The heart beat silently as I stroked it before I gave it a twist. She gasped and started to spasm out. It was too much as I ran to the back wall to cry. I'm such a horrible person.
As soon as Theron realized what was happening, the angels had already initiated their plan. Most of the demons were fazed by Dave's and Ben's illusions. While that was in effect, all three death angels struck deathly blows. Almost a third of the demons fell out of line. Theron looked terrified, but I could tell underneath that the man was calm, cool, and collected.
Theron muttered a chant under his lips and raised his arms, striking Ben and the unnamed angel over. Dave and Gabriel had jumped out of the way while their friends laid on the ground in shock.
“Don't think you've won,” Theron said and he disappeared. Realizing that he was gone, the arch angel and Dave approached the woman. She was breathing. Thank god.
“Amenthia,” Gabriel said in a calm tone. “Are you a demon?” She blinked a few times, ignoring him for a second. “Ye-s,” she said as her voice cracked on the word. Then a weird silence seemed to stretch between them. The arch angel seemed nervous.
“You don't act like on,” Gabriel said as his brows curled in confusion. She laughed. “Well this is the first time I've met your kind dear,” she said, taking in a heavy breath. “Let's just say I want to go home before I die in the next few minutes.”
Startled, the arch angel jumped to his feet. He didn't expect the woman to be able to speak such language. Turning his back, the woman had reached to touch him. “What?” he huffed.
“All I ask is one favor,” she asked as she looked in my general direction. My heart sped up as I saw the glassy look in in her eyes. “Protect my granddaughter when she arrives.”
Just like that, the world swiveled around as I was back into my body. I gasped, realizing I was holding onto the witch in a death grip. She didn't even look fazed, but she did smile when she looked up at me.
A strong warm hand touched my back. “Now you know who I am,” a man said. So I turned around, meeting the menacing gaze in his eyes. My jaw dropped as my spine tingled with shock. 'Theron, run!' the demon screamed. But I couldn't move one bit, as it annoyed me just sitting there. He began to laugh.
“Technically I can't touch you yet my darkling,” Theron said, tracing my lip with his finger. “You haven't been initiated yet, so your blood is same as a human's. Pathetic.”
Fury claimed my veins as I was ready to threaten his life in any way I could. The man was evil, and I knew it. Plain and simple.
Then I felt everything in my body shift as felt that I could move my fingers. That meant I could go run, but first I wanted to knock the man's lights out. To my horror, my fist stopped right in front of his face. Panic sprawled all over me as he cackled.
“Dear, dear. I admire your spirit young one,” he said, trying to hide a smile. He pointed at the door. “I'll give you a five minute head start for guts, then the hunt begins.”
An overwhelming silence took over as I was afraid to move. Nope, terrified. The man was a total nut case. Everyone just kept on staring at me.
“I don't mind staring at you beautiful. But you better start moving. I start the timer in a minute.”
Honest to go, I bolted out of that room quickly to the shop floor. Drew was still unconscious as I had to drag him out to the passenger seat. Once I sat in the driver's seat, my hands trembled. Those people were still staring at me from the shop window.
Vroom, vroom! I pedaled the gas as hard as I could to get onto the road, cutting off many drivers. Even traffic was becoming heavy. Great, just what I needed. Heat went straight to my face as I looked at the time. Only two minutes until they find me. My fingers laid idly by as they tapped on the steering wheel. 'Ask Sarson how to shadow drive,' the demon recommended. Then I looked in the rearview mirror and saw that he was awake.
“What's wrong? You look like you've seen a ghost,” Sarson said as he looked behind him. “You know how to shadow drive? We need to get out of here,” I said as my voice quivered with fear. He just raised a brow and nodded before closing his eyes. “Drive,” he murmured and I slammed on the gas. Then we started going through cars like it was nothing. It was nearly exhilarating.
I'm guessing the chase had begun, but it didn't look like anyone was following us. Sarson said he couldn't keep the vehicle in 'shadow mode' for much longer. So he had dropped the shield on the highway, exhausted.
“Shouldn't we tell Doom Crew if someone's chasing us?” he asked. Well, he did seem to have a point with that. I grabbed my phone and dialed up Julies, leaving it on speakerphone. The man picked up on the last ring. “Hello?” Julies asked. “We ran into trouble,” I said in a shaky voice. “They're allies with RAD I'm sure. Ask Dave if he knows a guy named Theron.”
After I said all that, an awful silence took over. “Where are you?” he asked. “On 676-S,” I said, hoping I didn't sound desperate. “Look at the boards. Tell me which one you're passing,” he pressed. “Coming up on US 130 South,” I said. “Take it,” he urged. “There are reinforcements there in the rain.” So without hesitation I hopped onto the ramp. Traffic was within the area, again. “Stay safe.” The phone clicked off. I took in a heavy sigh. I should be safe, I reminded myself. 'We have to get to them first,' the demon also said.
It was a decent sized town as it seemed to maintain a cross over look between the 1800's and now. My eyes loomed over to the train station, but I kept moving. The re
inforcements would be out in the rain he had said. And now, it just began to down power. Scary, how accurate some of these people are.
Out of nowhere, a car popped up behind me keeping it's distance. I peered into the rearview mirror and panicked. It's them.
The car jumped the moment I hit the gas pedal, and the tires slid across the slick road surface. Ding-dong-ding! A train was coming and the emergency brake wouldn't release. Fuck.
Slam! Whoosh! Everything in the car jerked as I managed to get Sarson out of the vehicle. He tumbled to the ground before the tracks, awake. Drew still didn't rouse though.
The metal crackled as the door was being pushed in, as it cracked the windshield wide open. I figured I only had a few moments to get out as I used Drew as a shield to climb out through the broken rearview window. Thing is, it felt like something had sliced me open as I jumped.
Fighting the urge to cry, the sting in my eyes made it hard to see as I stumbled into a nearly ditch for safety. There wasn't much strength in me to move much further, and I made out a few figures that were coming closer. Please don't be RAD. Please don't be. Then the blackness swallowed me in whole.

~Dom~
Doom Crew had given the Winter Court not even ten minutes ago that the darkling would come to them. Dom was very excited at first, but then he heard a deafening shriek. A few subordinates told him RAD was here. Damn.
Well, all the noise led him to a car crashing head onto a train, and somehow they were all alive. One was injured as the other two were in need of medical attention. At least that's the way Dom saw it until he got closer. The girl looked like she was suffering from blood loss which had to have caused her to faint. Raising the hem of her shirt, Dom saw that it was deep. She needed treatment immediately as a few fey came closer.
“She okay?” the faerie asked. “NO,” Dom said as he was getting more angered with worry. “Call Dave. We must get her to an ER.” After that, he lifted her up cautiously as he slung her over his back, feeling her slow heartbeat. “Don't die on me yet,” Dom whispered into her ear.
EPILOGUE
A huge blinding array of light entered my eyes that made me want to move. The room appeared to be basic, a ten by ten as it was all white with nothing but a bed. There were voices nearly, low and concerned as I reached the door. It sounded important.
“We've done the best we can Dom,” the doctor said, taking a look at the door. “She needs a blood transfusion, and we don't have the right blood.” Angered at those words, a fine line of wrinkles appeared on Dom's face as he thought. “Check up on Dave. See if his is compatible,” Dom said as his voice stumbled on the words. “Tell me what you find.” Then he cracked the door open to the room.
To my own horror, I saw myself on the bed. Then how am I here? I felt myself as I tried to find an anchor to my body. Nope, nothing. Shit.
Dom sat next to my unconscious body, stroking my face. And to my surprise, his eyes were balling up with tears. “All my fault. But we should make it through this.” We? Then he kissed my cheek and I felt warmth on them. What the hell is wrong here?
Slam! I whirled around to see the doctor and the powerful yet terrified, Dave. That could only mean one thing. He's compatible, isn't he?
“Sit here,” the doctor said as he twirled a chair next to the IV patch. Dave took a seat and looked up at him. “Your blood is compatible to a degree, but we can't give it to her all at once. The angelic qualities will her. So right now a pint will do to keep her steady. I'll be right back.” Then the man rushed out of the room.
“Thank you sir. I'm sorry for this mess,” Dom said with a weak smile. Dave took in a sigh and shook his head. “It's the least I can do before I'm reassigned,” Dave said, looking at my face. “Gabriel will be here soon.” The arch angel's name seemed to make me shiver, and I wanted to know why.
Countless hours passed, and the only thing I could focus on was the tubes that transferred blood from Dave to my body. He was becoming pale as some color was returning to my face. The machine beeped as Dave pulled the cord out of his hand sighing.
The door opened to reveal the arch angel I've wanted to see for a while now. His eyes flickered across to my body then to Dave's face. “How do you do?” the arch angel asked. Dave let out a coarse laugh before beaming at the angel's rough composure. “Could be better. I can tell you're going through hell too” Dave said before stroking my cheek. My body was finally breathing, and I felt like I was being drawn to it. No, not yet!
“Yeah. Different dimensions have my attention at the moment,” the arch angel said, grinding his lips. “Demons have grown quite rebellious, and keep going at it.” Then he looked at me and my now breathing body. “I still don't get how demons will cooperate with you Dave.”
“Trust and vengeance,” Dave said, stroking my hair. “Her demon prefers the human side more than it's origin.” Confusion then sprawled onto the arch angel's face and Dave couldn't help but laugh. “She's not ready to take on her duty as Doom Crew leader yet. I was hoping to request to send her to the dimension you'r working closely with at the moment.”
At that request, the arch angel grunted. “I hardly doubt she can handle the world,” he said, eyeing me. “Demon's are relentless, and if I sense something is off I might kill her.” It seemed like he was threatening Dave if he tried to do something, but he appeared unaffected.
“You won't remember her, and her memory will fade upon being there. The only thing that won't change is the fact that she's half demon. Which is hard to sense when the human half is in control,” Dave said, grimacing. “I'll come with you when I'm done here.” With that, the arch angel nodded at the change of the subject. “See you soon, brother.”
