“Here’s where Silas is located,” she said. “I haven’t been able to locate Roxy, but if you can get Silas, you might have a chance.”
“They aren’t together?”
She shook her head.
“He has her hidden. I’ll keep searching for anyone who knows anything,” Elizabeth stated. “Meanwhile, if you need help, Jagger, you call. I have a few people I can lend you to help out. They’re Marines, and I can come.”
He hugged her.
“Just watch my sister. Maura is working on extrication. She’s the best.”
Elizabeth hugged him back.
“Kiss Oracle for me, and tell her that I’ll see her soon.”
He laughed.
“Is that a promise? Should I be expecting to wake up one day and see you standing in our location?”
She smiled.
“Marine, one never knows.”
He gave her a fist bump.
“Blackhawk, I’ll see you when I see you,” he said, trying to put on a strong front.
Elizabeth knew he was suffering without his wife. He was trying to get through each day, but Jagger was hurting.
“Marine, oohrah. I have your back.”
He saluted her, and he headed down the stairs.
Behind her, the door opened and Ivan appeared.
“You okay?” he asked.
Yeah, she wasn’t.
Elizabeth hated when her friends hurt.
“I have to find a pregnant woman, and I have to do it fast,” she said.
“I know some people…”
She dropped her arm over Ivan’s shoulders. “Talk to me, Marine. Talk to me.”
And he did.
As Elizabeth promised, she would help Jagger out. This was far from done.
In fact, it was only the beginning.
There was one more mission.
And she was up for the ride.
Only, Elizabeth Blackhawk wasn’t riding alone.
She had backup.

Twelve Thousand Feet
Monday Afternoon
Oh, this was going to be a birthday to remember. Christopher Leonard was scared out of his damn mind, but he felt alive.
He was living.
All of his life, he’d done things the safe way, and now that the clock was ticking, he wanted this rush. He wanted the adrenaline.
He wanted this freefall.
More importantly, he wanted the memories for him and the people he loved. Chris knew that at some point, he’d be weak, a skeleton, and at death’s door. He wanted Elizabeth to be able to look back and remember that there were good days. He needed her to remember that there were special days that proved he had loved and cherished her.
These last twenty or, hopefully, thirty years would count.
He was making memories for the people he loved.
So, now, as he was strapped to the chest of some large man with an altimeter, he was ready to make the jump.
God!
His heart was thumping.
As he glanced over, Elizabeth was attached to some other military guy as he was getting ready to drop them out of a military plane.
They couldn’t go to a regular skydiving company. It was winter, and they were the Blackhawks.
It would be on the news.
So, Ethan pulled some strings, and they were strapped to three captains from the Army’s Airborne unit, and they were about to do this hardcore—Army style.
“Ready?” the one strapped to Elizabeth said, moving them toward the opening. He was clipped to the line, and she was grinning.
Clearly, Elizabeth was batshit insane.
Ethan looked green, and Chris…he wanted to piss himself.
He nodded to the guy strapped to Elizabeth.
It looked like they were going first.
She blew him a kiss, gave her captain a fist bump, and they moved to the edge. He held up three fingers, and by one, he pushed them off and into the open sky.
He did a flip, and off they went.
“Ready?” Ethan’s jumper asked.
“Uh…”
Before he could say no, and before Chris and Ethan could chicken out, they followed, no countdown for them.
They screamed like girls.
Once they were righted, Chris watched as the ground loomed, and it was the most amazing feeling in the world.
He was flying.
His body felt light as he kept his arms out, and the clouds gave way to the green ground below.
He watched as Elizabeth’s soldier pulled his cord, and they were jerked up above him to float down. His guy did the same thing, and they followed suit.
He was so glad he did this.
When Ethan’s guy tugged on his, the chute exploded open, and the three of them floated.
It was amazing.
He looked over toward their family, and all was well. In that moment, they made that memory. Chris would save it for as long as he had, and share it with the people he loved.
His family.
His core.
His…Elizabeth.
As he watched her land, her captain keeping her safe, he braced for impact. Not far away was Callen, leaning against something covered in a parachute.
Chris’s feet hit the ground, and they slid to a stop. Ethan wasn’t far behind. As the Army guys set them free, Elizabeth raced toward him and hugged him.
“That was the freaking, most awesome thing I’ve ever done in all of my life!” she said, laughing like a kid.
He agreed.
“Thank you for doing that with me.”
She gave him a kiss.
It was soft, sweet, and something they’d shared all those years ago. It was a relationship kiss, and that feeling was back.
His girl was back.
He smiled when she set him free.
“Happy Birthday.”
Ethan joined them. He hugged both of them, and he was so damn glad to be back on the ground.
“I am NEVER doing that again,” he stated.
They both laughed.
“Bock bock,” she teased.
“Damn straight! You’re a freaking menace.”
“It’s a gift,” she teased.
Speaking of which…
“We have something for you,” Ethan said, leading them toward Callen.
The other Native man was smiling.
“How was it?” he asked.
“So good!” she replied. “I want to do it again,” Elizabeth stated, pointing at Callen.
“Never going to happen, angel. Natives don’t jump out of things. Let’s go ride a horse.”
She snorted.
“What are you sitting on?” Chris asked.
Callen stood and grabbed the parachute.
“We got you something,” he said, pulling the colorful covering off it.
When it was free, Chris stared.
He couldn’t believe it.
Holy!
Shit!
“It’s my Mercedes,” he said, staring at the red ride that had been decimated in the fire that killed Cyra. It had been Chris’s second favorite possession.
His Newton Boxers.
That red Mercedes.
It had been his reminder of his past with Elizabeth, and up to that moment, it had been lost.
Well, it looked like a lot of their past was back and to stay.
Chris loved that vehicle.
They’d raised hell in that ride.
“How?” he asked.
“We found one, had it brought here, and even tricked it out,” Callen stated, opening the door.
Chris got in, and there was a platinum skull on the gear shift, the inside was all black, and the keys were in the ignition.
Tears filled his eyes as he ran his hands over the wheel and dash. Honestly, he never thought he’d see this vehicle again—or one that looked like it.
“I don’t know what to say,” he
said, staring at them. “I don’t know how to even tell you what this means to me. You’ve given me something I didn’t think I could have. You’ve given me back time.”
Yes, yes, they had.
That was the point.
Here was a link to his past. They might not be able to erase his HIV, but they could give him those memories that would give him a special life.
“There’s more,” Elizabeth said, holding out her hand. She led him to the back of the vehicle and pointed at the plate.
‘Blackhawk 4’
Chris blinked back the tears.
The Blackhawks were claiming him. They were making him part of them, and he never felt safer, more loved, or better in all of his life. The three of them were staking their claim, uncaring if the world talked shit about them, made up rumors, or lies.
They were saying Chris Leonard was theirs.
He was a Blackhawk now.
“I don’t know what to say,” he said, hugging Callen first. “Thank you.”
“Happy Birthday, bro,” he said, giving him a kiss.
Chris nearly wept at the words.
Ethan hugged him next.
“When you’re a Blackhawk, there are a couple of things expected of you,” he said. “You’re going to have a sexy woman in your life, and you’re going to drive it like you stole it.”
He pointed at Elizabeth.
“That’s part one. Give part two a try.” He hugged him.
“I love you all,” he stated.
Ethan gave him a kiss.
“We love you too.”
He faced Elizabeth.
“This is probably the best day of my life,” he said, hugging her. “Thank you for being mine again,” he whispered in her ear.
“I was always yours,” she said. “We all know it,” she said, reminding him. “Your heart loves who your heart loves. Now, take me for a ride!”
He raced around to the driver’s seat, and Elizabeth hopped into the passenger’s side.
“Let’s see what this baby can do!” she shouted.
Ethan shook his head.
“You’re going to be handling speeding tickets for a month,” Callen stated.
“It’s better than jumping out of a plane,” he said as the wheels spun, his wife hung out the window, and Chris tore out of the parking lot.
“The Blackhawk four?” Callen asked.
He laughed.
“Yeah, the fun is about to begin.”
