“If that’s the case, why didn’t you come and get me before now?” This time her question sounded sincere, not sarcastic and Sean detected hurt in her tone.
Luke stood and started pacing, hands crossed behind his back. “I didn’t know where you were. It doesn’t work like that; I experienced these intense dreams. I sensed you out there, heard your voice, even saw you at times…but in a vague way. If I tried to force it, focused on it too much, it became unintelligible to me, kind of like getting too close to an Impressionist painting. It was the same with Sean, but once I actually met each of you, I knew. Immediately.”
“What did you do when you found out he’d dreamed of you?” Kayley turned to Sean.
“I had no idea at the start of our relationship. At first, we were only friends, or so I believed. I didn’t sense the connection, although I did have a huge crush on him.” Sean laughed as he remembered how badly he’d wanted Luke.
“Due to issues from my past I didn’t want to act on my attraction, too scared, I guess. Luke spent well over a year as my friend, followed by many months of slow seduction, before he explained how he felt about me, what he’d dreamed. Once he told me though, he laid everything out there, even about you. I wanted him so much, I could easily accept you came as part of the deal. And once we were mated it wasn’t an issue. You become so close you often share feelings, desires. It’s hard to explain until it happens to you.”
“It sounds horrible.” Kayley’s eyes filled with tears.
Luke gasped, his face flooding with color as if she’d slapped him.
“Horrible?” Sean didn’t know what to say to that.
“Losing your autonomy, becoming completely enslaved to another person. It sounds scary.”
Sean tried to explain. “You’re not…it’s not like…you’re not enslaved. Lord, you must have heard me tear Luke a strip now and again the past few days? I have my own mind, my own views, and I always express them. But on some deeper level you’re in sync, especially when it comes to sexual matters. I know when Luke wants me. I can sense it, even if he’s a thousand miles away.” His face warmed at that admission, but he didn’t stop talking. He needed Kayley to understand, and if he couldn’t even talk about it, how could he expect her to accept it?
“One time, we’d been apart for ten days, and I woke up suddenly in the early hours of the morning with a hard-on you could drill wood with, and my whole body on fire. I understood immediately what Luke must be…” He trailed off too embarrassed to go on.
“I get the picture.” Kayley smiled tentatively.
“Once I’d bonded with Luke, I started to have rare dreams of you, too. Sometimes we’d even share them and both wake up in the same aroused state. It’s so hard to explain if you’ve never undergone it. We’re not human. We don’t experience things the same way you do.”
“So you want me to be your mate? You’ve dreamed about me for years and now you want me to join you. Not only for a night? But for a long time?” She bit her lip and watched them. “You know, I believe I may have dreamed of you for years. I’ve had dreams of wolves for most of my life. Intense, vivid dreams, and a lot of my artwork is of wolves.” She swept a hand behind her to indicate a folder on the coffee table.
“More recently there’ve been other dreams.” She colored slightly but pushed on. “So oddly enough, I can accept what you’re saying, no matter how crazy it sounds. My Grams believes she has the sight and she always said there was something special about me. After Dane attacked me, and I failed to see it coming, I suppose I simply gave up believing I had any sort of gift. Now, I think Grams might be right. I guess I need to make a decision. Don’t I?”
“Yes.” Luke said nothing else. Let that one simple word hang in the air.
“But,” she went on, “Sean said something that worries me. You experience everything differently and I’m human, so won’t I be cut out of all that? Unable to properly connect with you?”
Luke said, “You wouldn’t be human. If you joined us, you’d have to turn. You’d become one of us.”
The color drained from Kayley’s face and Sean’s heart sank.
* * * *
By the time the two men left, Kayley wanted to scream. Her mind couldn’t process all the information they’d given her, never mind what she’d learned whilst at the house with the pack. Flashes of images, remembered sensations, and new facts all tumbled around, confusing her more and more. How could anyone be expected to find out all the things she’d discovered in the last few days and hold onto their sanity? Her mind seemed frayed at the edges most days, without this kind of a push.
During one moment, when Luke explained how they sometimes hunted as a pack, she’d started to laugh almost hysterically and suddenly panicked. In the end, she’d questioned aloud what she’d seen two days earlier. Luke simply stood, stripped down until he towered in front of her, gloriously naked, and changed into his wolf form. When he shifted back, he calmly dressed and sat back down.
Both men spent time answering her questions patiently, some of which she asked more than once. Luke reassured her repeatedly that she didn’t have to make any decisions immediately; they only wanted her to know the truth, to understand why they wanted her so much.
Luke agreed that she possessed some precognitive powers, because of her dreams. He also thought she might be bonding with them already, which explained the intensity of her emotions.
Finally alone, she paced her small room and tried to make sense of it all. Could she do what they asked? Spend the rest of their vacation time with them before returning home for a visit?
Part of her worried it would be too cruel to all concerned if she spent time with them but couldn’t commit at the end of it. When they’d left, Sean held her close and whispered he loved her. Luke didn’t say anything but his eyes did all the talking for him.
Another more insistent, and needful, part of her didn’t think she could stay away even if she wanted to. No man had ever managed to make her respond sexually the way they did. More than that, they provided her with the security and sense of belonging she desperately wanted.
She couldn’t keep on discounting her dreams, either. As a child, the times she’d felt most alive, most present in her life, were during her nights running with wolves. Add into the mix her recent erotic nights, starring Luke and Sean, and she couldn’t deny what stared her in the face. They were inextricably woven together somehow, their lives linked.
“I am so screwed!” She flopped down on her hard sofa bed and curled into a tight ball. Sleep. That’s what she needed. A long sleep, so that her poor, weary mind could start to process all the crazy shit that had gone down the last few days. Reaching for her music player, she selected a meditation track and closed her eyes, willing herself to slip under and find a few hours peace.
The two men lay kissing, entwined together in the center of the huge bed.
Slowly, sensually, they claimed one another’s mouths. Tongues dueling, breath ghosting in and out.
Hands roamed everywhere as fingers trailed over languid limbs. They moved closer together and their swollen, heavy cocks touched, causing them both to gasp. Luke moved his hand up Sean’s leg, over his hip to grasp his dick. When he took hold of it, Sean shivered throughout his entire body.
“I want you.” Luke’s voice carried to her across the room, low and thick with desire.
“Want you, too.” Sean smiled, his whole face lighting up.
Luke grabbed at something next to him, popping the cap on the tube he picked up. He drizzled a generous amount of the thick, clear liquid onto his fingers before settling himself between Sean’s legs.
Kayley gasped when she realized what Luke meant to do. She’d witnessed them together before but never this moment, never something so intimate, so personal. Thinking she should leave, she looked around the room, but there was no door, there were no windows either. A vague sense of panic fluttered through her, but a loud moan from the bed distracted her, turning her attention back to
the two men.
Sean’s head moved on the pillow, his mouth falling open as Luke worked two fingers slowly inside him.
“Oh fuck. There, right there.” Sean’s head thrashed as Luke touched something inside that set him on fire.
The blond grabbed Luke’s strong wrist and bucked his hips up at the same time. Kayley could feel her own desire build in response to seeing these two men so aroused and lost in one another.
“If you don’t get to it, I’m going to come all over your hand instead of on your cock.” Sean’s guttural voice, stating what he wanted so unequivocally, had her stifling a moan.
Luke positioned himself between Sean’s legs and guided his cock to his stretched entrance. With a grunt, he pushed smoothly in, not stopping until he rested all the way inside.
“You kill me. So perfect.”
“Move, need you to move.” Sean didn’t ask, he demanded.
Luke responded by nudging his hips forward, not thrusting, simply rocking deep within Sean.
“Oh, that’s it. So good.” Sean’s eyes rolled back in his head before he snapped them open to gaze up at Luke.
They mashed their mouths together; tongues slip sliding in a dance that mirrored their lower bodies. All the while Luke ran his hands over Sean, touching every part of him. Sean’s arms lay above his head and he grabbed onto the pillow as he kissed Luke hard.
Kayley understood she wasn’t watching mere fucking, the act way too intense, too emotionally charged for that description to fit. The two men were making love.
Sean pulled his mouth away, dragged in a lungful of air while Luke’s hips still rocked into him in that steady, deep rhythm. A low moaning filled the room as Sean began to climb toward his release. The sounds he made so vulnerable they tore at Kayley’s heart and had her core clenching in empathy. She wanted to experience that, wanted to lose it that badly that she couldn’t control the noises coming out of her mouth.
“Aahhh, oh…oh.” Sean’s mouth fell open and he arched up, as his cock jerked, untouched, against his belly and pumped line after line of cum over his chest.
“So beautiful.” Luke dipped his head, as his own hips stilled and he pushed in even deeper.
He came silently, face buried in Sean’s neck, hips twitching as Kayley watched on entranced.
For a few moments, they stayed like that, cocooned in one another’s embrace ‘til Luke pulled out and rolled over to his side, lazily tracing patterns down Sean’s arm.
Kayley moved toward them, wanting to touch them, be with them. Except she couldn’t reach out the way she needed. Something stopped her moving forward, some sort of invisible barrier kept her back.
“Luke?” She cried out his name. “Sean?”
Once more, she tried to move toward them, throwing her body forward but she couldn’t get near, something unyielding threw her back at every attempt.
Luke’s head snapped up, and he looked around the room.
“What is it?” Sean looked around too.
“She’s here with us. I can sense her.”
She wanted to try to reach out again, but the room started to shimmer and fade, and darkness tugged at her, pulling her away from them and down into the nothingness of deep sleep.
“No!” Kayley sat bolt upright in her small, dark room. The patterns of the streetlights on the walls telling her she was home, in her own bed. Her cheeks burned and when she moved her hands to them, they came away wet with tears.
Fear threatened to choke her. She couldn’t deny her connection to the men any longer. Nor could she deny she possessed a gift she didn’t understand and was afraid to look at too closely. What if she focused on it only to lose control of it, to possibly even lose herself to it? She dug her fingers into her right shoulder and groaned at the tension there. Her chest and jaw ached too, her whole body tight as a drum.
Memories of the dream rushed over and through her. Seeing Sean come so undone had turned her on more than anything should. She moved her legs apart and cool air ghosted over hypersensitive flesh. She tentatively reached a hand down to stroke herself.
Need, pure base need, took over. With a sigh, she moved her hand further up, parting her legs even wider to give herself access. Two fingers slid between her folds and soft sighs turned to deep moans as she found her swollen, exposed nub. The image of Luke rocking up into Sean hit her, closely followed by the sounds Sean made as he got thoroughly fucked. Needing more, she pushed two fingers inside.
Her mind replayed the moment when Sean lost control, arched up and came all over himself. As she did so, her own release swept over her, hard and fast and utterly surprising. With a loud cry, she shuddered as the orgasm ripped through her. Her sex tightening over her fingers repeatedly, until she withdrew them and pressed her thighs together, savoring the aftershocks.
She almost wanted to curse these men for making her feel the way she did, but she couldn’t ignore her link to them. The idea of them together, without her, pierced her soul. Tomorrow she’d go to them, spend their remaining vacation time together.
For the first time in years, Kayley let her heart lead the way.
Chapter 10
The sun beat down, warming her skin, letting her insides uncoil another notch as the heat soothed her stomach. Kayley couldn’t quite wrap her head around the fact she’d left Miami, traveled for hours on open roads and been, mostly, okay.
She’d returned to the condo that morning, the day after the boys’ visit to her apartment and the overwhelming dream experience, expecting an ecstatic greeting, only to find a very stressed out pack and no chance of talking with Luke or Sean.
Will’s emotions were spiraling out of control. He’d shifted, panicked, and ripped apart the huge leather couch, knocking over some of the horrifyingly expensive sculptures along the way. Will became so upset by what he’d done that every time he went into the room he changed to wolf form again. Eventually, Luke asked Sean and Kayley to take Will out for the day while they righted the damage. Torn by wanting to do as Luke asked, and being there for Will, versus her fear of traveling, she’d screwed up the courage to face her phobia and go with her cousin. He needed all the comfort she could offer.
They’d traveled up the Everglades Parkway, or Alligator Alley, as it was known, to Fort Myers. A journey she’d struggled through at times, but managed to bear due to Sean’s strong, soothing presence. After spending a couple of hours at Fort Myers, Sean suggested they travel a bit farther, to Sarasota. He’d heard of an amazing beach he wanted to show them.
That’s how Kayley went from never leaving Miami, to taking a three-hour road trip.
Her mind returned to the topic she kept obsessing on—her recent dream of the two men and Luke’s recognition of her presence. Sean had mentioned it to her as they’d prepared to leave. He’d explained that they really had been making love that night and that Luke had sensed her presence in the room at the end. The fact her dream was real terrified Kayley. What it might signify she didn’t want to contemplate. Part of her wanted to give herself up to it, mind, body, and soul, but another part of her wanted to hold back. She’d only just found herself again after many years and didn’t want to be overwhelmed by another person to the degree she lost all of her hard-won independence.
“Told you Sarasota was a good idea.” Sean appeared in her line of vision.
Fresh out of the ocean, he dripped ice-cold drops of water onto her legs, making her shiver.
“You did indeed.” She gazed at him, letting his infectious smile banish her worries for the moment.
The beach blew her away, mile after mile of baby powder soft sand. In the late afternoon light, it appeared blindingly white against the blue of the water and sky. They’d placed their towels on a relatively deserted patch of beach, and she’d been able to relax and enjoy the sun as Sean and Will swam.
Sean kneeled down next to her and took hold of her face, pulling it toward his own as his lips brushed hers. He tasted of the sea and the melon sorbet he’d eaten earlier.
<
br /> She broke away to cast a concerned glance out to the ocean, but Will floated on his air mattress, facing out to sea. After his meltdown, no one had yet told him about the situation between Kayley, Sean, and Luke.
“Will’s enjoying it out there,” she said.
Sean frowned slightly as he looked to her cousin. “He needed time and space away from the pack. Luke doesn’t always understand how stressful all this must still be for Will. As a born shifter, he accepts things that must be incredibly strange for someone new to our world. He has this amazing gift but when he doesn’t have that sixth sense connection he can be a real dunderhead.”
“Dunderhead?” she snorted. “You seem to understand Will, yet you’re a born shifter.”
Kayley studied him, watching as drops of water rolled from his gleaming, golden skin, to fall softly onto the sand below him. The sight had her mouth watering. As another drop hung precariously in the balance she wanted nothing more than to lean over and snake her tongue out, taste the water on him. Before she could move, his voice interrupted her daze.
“I went through a lot of crap in my past, and it’s made me more empathetic to what others are going through.”
“Stuff like what happened to me?” She’d had a sneaking suspicion that things had been very bad for Sean for a period of time.
He shielded his eyes from the sun as he rummaged around in the bright tote she’d brought to the beach. Finally, he found his prize and put his sunglasses on before he turned in her direction.
“I grew up far away from the United States. I came into this world a long time ago, in Scotland.”
She gave a small gasp. “I’ve always wanted to go there! All that history.”
