The Fallen:
Spear of Heaven
Prologue
Deep space the centre of the universe
‘Are you sure this is the last piece?’ Marineus asked softly holding a small piece of light grey metal before turning to look out over the event horizon of a large black hole.
‘I’ve traced every piece, this is the last.’ Aurinatus replied quietly as he appeared next to Marineus.
‘If we’re wrong about this and Bhan comes back we’re all in danger.’ Marineus whispered as she released the shard of metal and watched it sail through the void of space into the mouth of the blackhole.
‘Bhan can’t come back, we’ve ensured the piece in orbit can’t reach the surface and none of the other pieces are closer than the Andromeda galaxy.’ Vilstang hissed as he appeared in a flash of green light.
‘Don’t be so sure brother.’ Marineus sniffed as she turned and advanced on Vilstang slowly.
‘Sister please don’t do something you’ll regret.’ Vilstang whispered as he turned and allowed Marineus to catch up.
‘Brother, we both know I can’t do anything against you.’ Marineus chuckled as she caught up with Vilstang.
‘Marineus, Vilstang wait up.’ Aurinatus shouted as he began to follow.
‘We need to make sure none of the others come here.’ Marineus growled as she disappeared in a flash of light that blotted out the nearby stars.
‘What do you plan to do?’ Aurinatus asked softly as he turned to look around the area.
‘No one will come here.’ Vilstang bellowed as the area surrounding them began to distort and burn brightly.
‘Don’t do something we can’t undo.’ Aurinatus whispered as he disappeared.
‘I’m gonna make sure the old fool never causes me trouble again.’ Vilstang growled as he disappeared into a ball of fire and energy.
‘You can’t be serious Fornicleus?’ A small distinct voice asked quietly looking at the new galaxy forming in front of them.
‘Thoreus I’m deadly serious, if I could get a single piece of Bhaniwdral it would make me one of the most powerful beings in the universe, not even the great Marineus could challenge me with that.’ Fornicleus replied softly as he turned to the glowing mass of stars now forming around the black hole.
‘Fornicleus, if you could get the piece there’s no way you’d be able to handle it all.’ Thoreus chuckled as he turned to Fornicleus and smiled.
‘Why not? It’s only a small piece.’ Fornicleus replied softly as he stretched forth his hand.
‘It’s a small piece of the most powerful being in the universe, I doubt even Vilstang could hold it.’ Thoreus whispered as he turned and followed the hand.
‘Vilstang’s much older and more powerful than either of us, don’t forget Bhan elevated him personally so he can handle significantly more than us.’ Fornicleus smirked as his body began to stretch.
‘Don’t do this.’ Thoreus pleaded as Fornicleus disappeared in a flash of light.
‘You can’t help him Thoreus.’ Marineus whispered from nowhere.
‘My Lady, I.’ Thoreus whimpered as Marineus appeared in front of him, the glow emanating soft.
‘This isn’t a natural singularity, Vilstang created it so the normal rules won’t apply.’ Marineus whispered softly as the glow around her began to intensify.
‘My Lady, what rules will apply?’ Thoreus asked meekly not daring to look up.
‘Your friend will escape one day, when I couldn’t say.’ Marineus replied as she vanished in a blaze of power and light.
‘You fool Fornicleus, when you get back we’re really gonna have to work on your compulsive side.’ Thoreus grumbled to himself as he flashed into nothingness.
5th Century AD Skagen Denmark
‘I’m here Fornicleus, so what do you want?’ Thoreus asked softly as he appeared by the natural harbour.
‘Thoreus I got it.’ Fornicleus whispered hoarsely as he appeared on the surface of the water, a length of silvery grey metal in his left hand.
‘Is that?’ Thoreus asked softly as he looked at the shard in his friend’s hand.
‘The last piece of the greatest power in the universe.’ Fornicleus replied a malicious smile spreading across his face.
‘You can’t possible hope to be able to utilise it?’ Thoreus asked as he admired the shard.
‘I don’t have to utilise the full power in this.’ Fornicleus chuckled as a bolt of energy formed in his hand, it raced up the shard which began to glow.
‘Fornicleus please, don’t do something you’ll regret.’ Thoreus pleaded lifting his hand to shield his eyes.
‘Thoreus you really should be more careful.’ Fornicleus whispered as the shard began to form into long spear.
‘Fornicleus you do know how long you’ve been gone?’ Thoreus asked quietly.
‘Does it matter.’ Fornicleus replied softly as the spear formed in his hand stopped glowing.
‘You’ve been gone over sixty million years, things have changed so much since you’ve been gone.’ Thoreus hissed as he turned to see a small child appear over the breakwater.
‘No!’ Fornicleus spat as he turned to see where Thoreus was looking.
‘Are you gods?’ The child asked, his eyes wide with shock.
‘Maybe.’ Fornicleus hissed as he raised his hand and the child froze in an instant of time.
‘Fornicleus you really shouldn’t have done that.’ Thoreus whispered as he turned to face the child who stood there mouth open, fear etched across his face.
‘We’re not gods, we are all powerful compared to the lower planes though.’ Fornicleus chuckled as he slammed the pint of the spear he’d just forged into the ground.
After the first few inches of the spear penetrated the ground lightening and flame raced into the sky, in an instant three glowing orbs of light appeared and began to form into the indigenous peoples.
‘Fornicleus is that you?’ The first being asked.
‘Valfreyjas who else would it be.’ Fornicleus replied coldly as he pulled the spear out of the ground and raised it above his head. Lightning raced across the sky and heavy rainclouds gathered.
‘Fornicleus you shouldn’t do that.’ Valfreyjas growled as she raised her hand and pulled the nearby lightning into her hand and dissolved it.
‘Valfreyjas why would you do that?’ Fornicleus asked loudly raising the spear bringing rain down on the six beings on the beach.
‘Fornicleus you don’t know what it’s like these days, with Bhan gone certain higher beings have moved into positions of power and influence within the council and this place is considered ground zero.’ Thoreus whispered as he looked up to the sky with a fearful look etched across his face.
‘With this do you really think they’ll come after me?’ Fornicleus hissed as he raised the spear above his head.
‘You’ve no idea how powerful some of these beings have become, when we lost Bhan the balance of the universe was thrown out. Bhan elevated four beings personally, two of them appear to have given up on everything, one’s asleep and the other we just don’t know.’ Thoreus said slowly as he turned to look at the other beings stood around.
‘This is eerily familiar.’ A distinct voice mumbled from beyond the breakwaters.
‘Hebronicleus what are you doing here?’ Valfreyjas asked as she turned to face Hebro who simply stood there, her eyes glowing like two small stars.
‘Making sure you don’t do something incredibly stupid.’ Hebro replied softly as she began to walk through the breakwaters towards the rock
s on the beach.
‘How could it be stupid?’ Fornicleus asked lowering the spear but keeping his hands wrapped firmly around it.
‘You know what it is and what it could do if you leave it here.’ Hebro replied softly as she stepped from the water onto the rocks.
‘This is the piece of Bhan cast into the abyss at the centre of the universe.’ Fornicleus said a sly grin spreading across his face.
‘And you know what it’s capable of?’ Hebro asked softly as she moved into the centre of the little group.
‘I can feel it’s power.’ Fornicleus replied softly as he lifted the spear high above his head again as lightning raced across the sky.
‘Of course you can feel the power. You’re holding a piece of the most powerful being in the universe, you’re mistake was bringing it back here.’ Hebro snarled as she started to glow with power again.
‘He hasn’t got a hundred million years’ experience.’ Thoreus whispered as a bolt of energy formed in his hand.
‘What makes you say that?’ Hebro asked softly as she turned to face Fornicleus.
‘We all know you’re bound here Hebronicleus, so you won’t be aware of what’s happening out there.’ Thoreus replied quietly as he turned to the ascended being nearest to him.
‘Great Hebronicleus, after the darkness began with Bhan’s absence things have changed out there, battles have raged which are beyond words, whole planes have been wiped from existence.’ The being said softly as her form firmed up.
‘I’m sorry I don’t recognise you.’ Hebro said seriously as she moved forward.
‘I’m Helvetica, I was ascended by Loptreus shortly after the darkness began.’ Helvetica said pointing to the final ascended who completed his transformation into human form.
‘How do these creatures operate like this?’ Loptreus asked shaking his arms around and bending his legs.
‘Loptreus you really are a snob.’ Hebro chuckled as the glow around her diminished.
‘Great Hebronicleus I haven’t been bound here in this form for millions of years.’ Loptreus sniffed as he moved to where Helvetica stood.
‘You can lose the Great, I’ve been bound here sixty-five million years for what I did. And it’s not this form I’ve bound to, it’s this place.’ Hebro replied softly as she turned to look at the others.
‘Hebronicleus you really should be more careful.’ Fornicleus growled as he pointed the spear at Hebro who’s eyes flashed and Fornicleus flew back into the breakwaters. ‘Don’t push me old woman.’
‘Yes, you possess a shard of Bhaniwdral but, unless you have the supporting knowledge it’s worthless.’ Hebro chuckled as a bolt of energy formed in her hand, the rest of the ascended beings cowed back a little as she advanced on Fornicleus who suddenly looked like a rabbit caught in the headlights of a car.
‘You wouldn’t dare.’ Fornicleus teased as he held the spear across his chest in both hands.
‘My dear Fornicleus, you could point that and direct all your power through it and you couldn’t hurt me.’ Hebro laughed mockingly as she stepped back with her right foot, brought both hands up to chest level and a bolt of energy to stretch the gap between her hands.
‘You really should calm down Hebronicleus.’ Thoreus whispered as he moved forward.
‘I will not allow any of you to threaten this planet.’ Hebro raged as she turned around on the spot to look at all of the ascended.
‘We don’t seek to threaten great Hebronicleus.’ Valfreyjas whispered as she dropped to one knee.
‘You need to relinquish the shard, now.’ Hebro growled as she advanced on Fornicleus.
‘I won’t.’ Fornicleus shouted as he pointed the shard at Hebro.
‘Fornicleus if you knew what that was capable you’d never hold it again.’ Hebro whispered softly as she advanced slowly onto Fornicleus.
‘I know what it’s capable of Hebronicleus, I’ve seen my future and it’s glorious.’ Fornicleus scoffed as the shard in his hand started to glow.
‘No, it’s over.’ Hebro bellowed as a bolt of energy unlike anything any of the group had seen left Hebro and impacted Fornicleus.
As the bolt connected with Fornicleus the shard began to glow and flew out of his hand, it sailed through the air the Hebro’s arm extended and the shard slipped between her fingers.
‘If any of you have any delusions about trying to go for this in the future I’d advise against it.’ Hebro snarled as she returned to her natural form and vanished into a flash of intensely bright light illuminating the area.
‘After that I’m heading back to the ethereal.’ Valfreyjas whispered as she dissolved into her normal form and raced to the sky.
‘It was nice while it lasted.’ Thoreus chuckled softly as he followed suit.
‘How will the locals view this?’ Helvetica asked as she tilted her head to the small boy who was still stood, his face slack and his eyes wide.
‘Already got that sorted.’ Loptreus replied softly as he turned to face the small boy who collapsed to the ground as both ascended beings flashed back into their normal form and raced to the sky after Thoreus and Valfreyjas.
Chapter 1
Between the planes of existence
‘Katie, do you know where the final piece of your father is?’ Marissa asked as she looked out through the flaps of the tent over a range of snow-capped mountains.
‘I don’t Mary, I was asleep from the time father was imprisoned till very recently.’ Katla replied softly as she lowered herself down so she was sat beside Marissa.
‘What happened when the piece was returned?’ Marissa asked as she began to chew on a small piece of strawberry that had appeared in her hand.
‘How much do you know about Ragnarok?’ Hebro asked softly as she walked over to where both were sat.
‘Norse end of the world. Odin, Thor and a couple of others were killed in the last great fight of the age.’ Tahir replied softly from the back of the tent.
‘Not quite what happened.’ Hebro chuckled as the glow around her started to grow.
‘You took the spear, didn’t you?’ Stefan asked quietly as he perused the table at the back of the tent.
‘Of course I did.’ Hebro replied her glow becoming more intense.
‘Where did you place it?’ Katla asked turning to face her mother.
‘I don’t remember.’ Hebro replied softly as she looked out over the mountain range before her.
‘Err, if you took it, shouldn’t you know where you left it?’ Tahir asked shaking his head slowly.
‘I remember standing on a beach on the Danish coast, I remember unleashing my full power on an ascended called Fornicleus, my next memory is appearing on a beach. I couldn’t even tell you how much time I’d lost.’ Hebro replied softly as she turned to face Stefan who just winked before smiling at her.
‘Why do I get the feeling we’re about to start chasing around the planet again.’ Marissa said shaking her head slowly.
‘Which beach was it, do you remember?’ Tahir asked as he pulled the flap at the entrance further and sat down next to Marissa.
‘I think I was on Malibu Beach.’ Hebro replied softly as she popped a piece of Mango into her mouth.
‘Are you sure mother?’ Katla asked seriously as she looked over at Hebro who was chewing slowly.
‘No.’ Hebro replied softly after she swallowed the fruit.
‘We’re screwed.’ Marissa sniffed shaking her head.
‘No, we’re not.’ Stefan said softly as he moved around the table, reaching for a slice of pepperoni pizza that had appeared about half way down.
‘The sooner we find the last piece, the sooner we can all get out of here.’ Hebro chuckled as she vanished in a flash of white light.
‘Mother.’ Katla shrieked as she turned to face back into the tent.
‘I’ve not gone anywhere.’ Hebro sniggered as she appeared by the table.
‘I hate it when she does that.’ Katla growled before looking back out over the mountains.
‘What is it with these mountains?’ Tahir asked as he kicked his legs back and forth.
‘Your brains processing the space between planes remember.’ Hebro replied softly as she moved back to where the little group was sat.
‘I keep forgetting we’re not actually anywhere on planet Earth.’ Tahir chuckled as he swung his legs over the edge of the tent.
‘So, what we gonna do to find out which beach Hebbie appeared on after she took the spear?’ Marissa asked as she lifted her legs up, pulled herself up to her full height and walked over to the table.
‘Well I’m gonna do this.’ Stefan replied as he plunged his hand into the middle of Hebro’s stomach his eyes closing tightly.
‘What the.’ Katla screamed as she saw Stefan’s hand disappear.
‘It doesn’t hurt.’ Hebro said calmly as she looked down at Stefan’s hand and allowed a small smile to spread across her face.
‘Santa Monica.’ Stefan whispered softly after he opened his eyes, both were small green suns.
‘How do you know?’ Tahir asked quietly as he flipped another piece of fruit into his mouth.
‘I’m connecting with a piece of myself.’ Stefan growled softly as his eyes returned to their normal state.
‘So, can you tell us where the bloody spear is?’ Marissa asked shaking her head.
‘No, for some reason I can’t access anything beyond Santa Monica.’ Stefan replied has he slowly started to withdraw his hand.
‘Wait.’ Hebro screamed as Stefan’s hand started to appear.
‘What?’ Stefan asked as he stopped pulling.
‘La Brea.’ Hebro replied softly as she looked down at the hand, wrapped her fingers around Stefan’s wrist and slowly started to push it back in.
‘The tar pits?’ Marissa asked as she cocked her head to the side.
‘Something about the pits is flashing through my mind.’ Hebro replied softly as she tightened her grip on Stefan’s hand.
‘I can see them.’ Stefan said quietly as his eyes returned to small balls of fire and power.
‘Any clue as to whereabouts of the spear in the tar pits?’ Tahir asked after swallowing the piece of fruit he’d been chewing.
