‘Sister, please forgive me.’ Katla said looking straight at Marineus.
‘For what?’ Marineus asked holding her arms out like Marissa had done.
‘This.’ Katla replied softly, as she wrapped her arms around Marineus a bolt of golden energy flashed between them.
‘What?’ Marineus asked as shock spread across her face.
‘A gift you’ve always sought, now I hope you’ll realise you were better where you were.’ Katla replied as Marineus began to raise off the ground and dissolve into a golden ball of energy. As soon as it started it stopped and Marineus returned to the ground.
‘What have you done?’ Marineus asked as she ran her hands over her body to check nothing had changed.
‘The universe is now open to you in ways you could never imagine.’ Katla replied as Marineus’ face began to distort slightly.
‘I see.’ Marineus said as her face returned to its normal state and she looked across at Bhan and smiled. ‘Thank you.’ She whispered before vanishing into thin air.
‘We’ll never see her again, will we?’ Aurinatus asked as he turned to Katla and smiled.
‘My dearest brother, I would not curse you the way I’ve just cursed her, so I’ll simply wish you good journey.’ Katla chuckled as she reached out and touched him on the forehead. As she did so Aurinatus vanished into thin air.
‘I want nothing from you sister.’ Vilstang whispered as he lowered his head.
‘There’s nothing to give you brother, other than to say good journey.’ Katla said as she held out her hand. Vilstang leant forward, kissed it gently then dissolved into a cloud of green energy.
‘So why did you ascend Marineus but not the other two?’ Tahir asked quietly once he was sure they’d gone.
‘Because now they’ll serve the universe before they can take the next step.’ Stefan replied as he walked forward to where Marissa was still stood.
‘Where do we start in our new quest then?’ Tahir asked as she turned to Bhan who simply smiled.
‘At the beginning.’ Bhan replied as his eyes flashed gold and the alpine world dissolved around them.
