“And beyond that? Do you have any long-term plans?” I asked.

“Director of the FBI? I know that grandmother has some plans for me. I just want to help.”

I nodded. “Let me know if I can help with the director thing. I did work for J Edgar Hoover for a very long time.”

“You mentioned he had secret files once. Do you know where they are?” Cat asked me.

“That is a story for another time. Some secrets need to stay secret. I meant to ask earlier. Was Fergus wearing a suit of armor?”

“He was. Agatha can’t get him to take it off,” Cat replied.

“There is a real trick to it on humans. He might not be able to do it. How did he get into it in the first place?” I asked.

“He’s a Unicorn? No idea.” Cat shook her head.

  Chapter 21

The room was dark when the Grand Master entered. The members of the national order were restless, but followed procedure and stayed quiet. “I have called you here to update you on the Witch situation.”

“As many of you know, we have a fox in our henhouse that needs to be eliminated. She’s part of the system that we must control or destroy for all of our goals to be imagined.” The Grand Master tapped his ring against the edge of the podium.

“To achieve our goals and eliminate the threat, we have decided to place one of our order on her team. Our agent must be flawless and perfect. He is to provide us with similar info to the things our friends have given us. There is an infection at the heart of our grand country that must be flushed out. Glory to the hammer!” The Grand Master chanted the word hammer several times and raised his hands.

Those in the audience cheered as they were given hammers and began to chant as well.

“Can you tell me the plan?” The Master of Intelligence and Vice President of the United States asked.

The Master of Arms stood straight up. “It’s simple this time. Complications cause failure. We will get right to the rot at the heart of the problem and chop it out!”

The VP squinted and blinked. “That means what exactly?”

“There will soon be an opening on her team. It has already been arranged. Our brother will strike for the heart when the time is right. Ending this Witch forever. The Brotherhood of the Hammer will reign supreme in bringing justice and pain to the unbelievers.”

Paul Montefort smiled. “I can visit her wounded Agent in the hospital. Would that help our man?”

The Grand Master smiled and nodded at the Master at Arms. All was going according to the plan. Agent Bill Maxwell wouldn’t survive the night.

  Author notes

This has been a hard book to write. History is a passion of mine. I read it when I’m not working, and I try ever so hard to insert it into things. The Federal Witch series is essentially an alternative history. But it is still history. The cleft point according to my books is the year 1914. That means that everything after that point can be different and before it the same. To a certain extent. I can still play. In Invisible Elder, Anastasia is flashing back to her history. Picking the proper time and place was incredibly difficult. She is in the right place at the right time, the legions are correct, the governor is mostly correct, and the emperor is correct. Everything else is close. Ancient history isn’t exact unless an artifact is dated. And even then we don’t follow the same calendar as the Romans did.

The Roman Empire was huge at the time of Ana’s birth. I only touched upon a tiny part. The map included in this book is to show how much of the Mediterranean was encompassed by Rome.

The Federal Witch Universe is growing. This is book six of the series. I have twelve planned, not counting holiday or short stories. And there are two authorized spin-offs. Taki Drake is helping to write about the Russian Witch. We have planned out at least six in that series. Even more, if you count the shorts.

Bradford Bates is joining us as well. He has already given us a taste in Tales from the Pumpkin Patch book this past Halloween. Expect lots of things from him soon. Coming in the new year will be much, much, more. Mongo will get his own series as will Verity. Marcella will stay in the realm of cookbooks but look for more of those as well.

I have a few secret projects in the works but check my Facebook page or website for information about those. You can follow me on BookBub and Goodreads as well. It’s going to be a word-filled new year.

  Thanks for reading.

  Acknowledgments

As always, publishing a book is only possible with help. I would like to thank some special people for their assistance in getting this book out.

First and foremost, I would like to thank the Ds, Diane and Dorene, for their developmental and full document editing. Also, Kat Lind for her finish editing and occasional nudging.

  Author Introduction – TS Paul

I’m now into my second year as a published author. With over 25 works under my belt already my pace is relentless. Writing was never a goal of mine growing up. I really did fall into this accidentally. My wife and family knew of my love of books and urged me to try writing. It wasn’t until an author i befriended gave me a short push off a long pier that i really gave it a go. And what a go that was!

Athena Lee and Agatha Blackmore have given way to over 50 short stories. I write a lot. The future is in books and I’m in it for the long haul. Keep your eyes peeled for new and exciting things coming from me this year. Don’t forget to check the Blog every week for a new Wilson or Fergus story.

I welcome comments and questions on my blog. Follow me on Facebook or visit my Amazon author page. I have an author page with BookBub too.

  I’m excited, are you?
