The Movies
Since the launching of the Killmaster series in 1964, there have been three Nick Carter movies. The first two were made in France and starred Eddie Constantine as Nick Carter in Nick Carter va tout casser (License to Kill) (1964) and Nick Carter et le Trefle Rougue (Nick Carter and the Red Gang) (1965) and were based on the French Nick Carter pulp novels based on the pulp incarnation of Nick Carter. The 1972 television movie The Adventures of Nick Carter starred Robert Conrad as Nick Carter and was based on the original dime novel incarnation of Nick Carter. There have been no movies based on the Killmaster novels.
Killsquad
Ten books by Frank Garrett
CIA agent John Smith, code-named Hangman, envisioned a super-secret anti-terrorist strike team of expendable soldiers code-named Killsquad. This six-man assault force was drawn not from the military but rather from death row. Hangman Smith reviewed many hundreds of dossiers and criminal records before he decided on his team:
• Leroy "Lightning Bomber" Walker: This heavyweight boxer was on the path to the championship when he discovered that his manager and promoter had ripped him off. Fuelled by cocaine, his rage was such that he killed three people. An all-white jury sentenced the black boxer to the electric chair.
• Rollo "Ice Pick" Barnes: A Harlem hit man, Barnes eliminated any competition with an ice pick. This was so effective that Barnes' Black Murder, Inc., had successfully kept La Cosa Nostra out of his territory and Barnes had eliminated fifty rivals. Eventually, one of Barnes' cronies turned him over to the law in revenge for Barnes' sleeping with his wife. Barnes was sentenced to death row.
• Tommy Williams: A career criminal, Williams' scar-faced, one-eyed visage made him famous as "the One-Eyed Pirate" during his four-year robbery and murder spree. Each robbery was conducted with military precision. When the law caught up with him, the resulting stand-off had Williams riddled with bullets. The wounds had only just healed enough for Williams to be executed before the Hangman snatched him from death row.
