“But everything else?”
“She remembers everything until the accident. I suspect she will be looking for a position as a paralegal with another law firm.”
“I will put her in touch with one of the attorneys at my old firm,” Jessica said.
I raised my wine glass and then paused before I brought it to my lips.
“What is it?” Jessica asked me.
I put my glass back down on the table. “I won't shed any tears over Leo Mancini, Brody Walker, Vince Gallaway, or either one of the Barlows, but this case was like a Shakespearean tragedy.”
Jessica considered me a moment. “I can see that,” she said. “The tangled web of lies just between the Barlows and Gallaway.”
“Deception all around,” I said.
“Perhaps it is like Marmion,” Jessica said.
“A tangled web they weave when first they practiced to deceive,” I said. “Or something like that.”
“Something like that,” Jessica said.
“But it ultimately brought them all down,” Jessica said.
“That it did,” I said. “I guess there is still some justice left in this crazy world.”
“You help bring justice and order to some of that craziness,” Jessica said as she put her hand on top of mine. “What you do is worth doing.”
“And what we have is worth having,” I said.
She smiled at me and I was lost in the warmth of her being. These were the moments I held onto. I couldn't take the cases I did without knowing I could return to Jessica and the life we shared.
I encountered a lot of deception in my chosen profession, but there was none between us. That was worth preserving and protecting. It was everything.

CAN YOU LEAVE A REVIEW?
Can you do me a big favor? If you enjoyed this book, could you take a few minutes and leave a review on your favorite book e-retailer?
Reviews are very important in establishing the all important “social proof” when readers are deciding what to read next. Having a certain number of quality reviews are also required for me to promote my books through many of the book promotion sites.
Thanks for considering leaving a review and telling others.

ACKNOWLEDGMENTS
I would like to thank you for taking the time to read what I write. None of this would be possible without my readers. THANK YOU! It is also true that a writing project does not come into existence without the help of others. I want to thank my editor Lois for her dedication to making what I write better. A big thanks to my family for their unending support, especially to my wife and our son.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Jason Richards is the author of the Drew Patrick private investigator series. He has enjoyed reading detective stories and thrillers since he was a child. His biggest writing inspirations are the tough and witty hard-boiled detectives Spenser by Robert B. Parker, Elvis Cole by Robert Crais, and police detective Harry Bosch by Michael Connelly.
He loves writing the Drew Patrick novels and hopes his readers enjoy being part of the adventures. Like his main character, Jason is a lifelong fan of Boston sports – especially his beloved Red Sox. Jason lives in Massachusetts with his wife, son, and their Beagle-mix dog (the inspiration for Dash).
