  Abaddock: See Realm of Darkness

  Alexandeon Valestead: King of Avonvale, widower of Queen Genevieve, and father to Prince Erec and Princesses Terrwyn and Taite.

  Alexandeon Calder: Normally called Alex for short, he is the infant son of Dillan and Terrwyn Calder and twin brother of Genevieve.

  Alaric: Seraph leader of the group of elophim known as the Watchers, who are banished from the Realm of Light as punishment for mating with human women. Ancestor of the House of Valestead and brother of Aura.

  Alphas, The: The first generation of seraph after the Father. They are extremely powerful and hold a prominent and trusted place in the Father’s circle.

  Andalynn “Anne” Valestead: Lady of Avonvale and sister of King Morgan. Cousin of Prince Erec and Princesses Terrwyn and Taite. Widow of the Wizard Tamesis and dark Queen of Abaddock.

  Andrick Hightower: Libethan Duke and younger brother of King Warren and uncle of Prince Amott.

  Amott Hightower: Crown Prince of Libetha. Son of King Warren and nephew of Duke Andrick.

  Artur Caerwyn: King of Caerwynspire, father of Ashleen, Lisabeth, Gwyn and Lyn, and husband of Gwyndalin. Former Commander of the Order of Paladin.

  Ariana Talison: Queen of Talisaria. Wife of King Baltus and stepmother of Prince Tythan Talison and Queen Gwyndalin of Caerwynspire.

  Ashleen Caerwyn: Princess of Caerwynspire, daughter of King Artur and Queen Gwyndalin and knight in the Order of Paladin.

  Asmodeus: A shade that communicates with Lady Anne. Transforms back into a shedom and leads the armies of Abaddock.

  Astroff: Title that means “priest” in the cult of Shebath. Named for one of the founders of the religion and used as a last name.

  Auberon, Sir: Leader of the Paladin who accompany Princess Ashleen south to Dracengard, and later becomes Commander of the military forces of Caerwynspire.

  Aggravane, Sir: Member of the Paladin accompanying Princess Ashleen south to Dracengard.

  Auguston Greynault: Eldest son of Theron and Azaleigh Greynault, brother to Breston, Sephene, Staphon and Merdith, and cousin to Prince Erec, and Princesses Terrwyn and Taite Valestead.

  Aura: Seraph warrior. She is a general and on the seraph council. She is sister of Alaric.

  Auraehalis: See Realm of Light.

  Avalon: Mystical island in the Glass Sea upon which Dracengard is located.

  Aville Valestead: Lady of Avonvale, mother to Morgan and Anne Valestead and wife of Bronwyn Valestead.

  Avon: Son of Ehren and Alaric and founder of Avonvale and the House of Valestead.

  Avon (dracen): The dracen psychically bonded to Terrwyn. Named for her ancestor Avon, the son of Alaric and Ehren.

  Avonvale: Kingdom of the Middle Realm ruled by the House of Valestead. Avonvale is also the name of the capital city of the Kingdom of Avonvale. Citizens known as Valish.

  Azaleigh Greynault: Lady of Avonvale and wife of Lord Theron Greynault. Mother of Auguston, Breston, Sephene, Staphon and Merdith. Aunt of Erec, Terrwyn and Taite Valestead.

  Baltus Talison: King of Talisaria. Father of Prince Tythan and Queen Gwyndalin of Caerwynspire. Husband of Queen Ariana. Grandfather of Princess Ashleen Caerwyn and her sisters.

  Bannistar: Valish lord and Commander of King Alexandeon’s military forces in Avonvale during the First Battle of Avonvale. Husband of Lady Elizabeth and father to Captain Bryan.

  Beagonia: Northern kingdom ruled by the House of Maraes, and birthplace of the Wizard. It was the Wizard’s first conquest. Citizens known as Beagonians.

  Becca: Former Lady-in-Waiting to Queen Fysee of Talisaria. Mistress of the castle at Bien.

  Bendal: Member of the City Guard of Riversmeet and nephew of Sir Bryn.

  Bien: Capital city of the Kingdom of Talisaria.

  Black Knight, The: See Rayfen.

  Brandal Calder: Prince of the Stromland, often referred to simply as Bran. Son of King Tybalt and brother of Prince Tybalt, better known as Dillan.

  Bran: The dracen psychically bonded to Dillan. Dillan named him Bran after his deceased little brother, Prince Brandal.

  Breston Greynault: Second son of Theron and Azaleigh Greynault, brother to Auguston, Sephene, Staphon and Merdith, and cousin to Prince Erec, and Princesses Terrwyn and Taite Valestead.

  Brice: Valish lancer.

  Bronwyn Valestead: Lord of Avonvale and brother to King Alexandeon. Father of Morgan and Anne Valestead and husband of Aville Valestead.

  Bryan: Captain of the royal archers of Avonvale and son of Lord Bannistar and Lady Elizabeth.

  Bryn, Sir: Knight and Commander of the City Guard of Riversmeet.

  Caepionis: Libethan lord and close adviser to King Warren.

  Caerwynspire: Northernmost kingdom of the Middle Realm, which includes the Scorched Mountains. It is ruled by King Artur and the House of Caerwyn. The White Fortress, a large military outpost, was constructed there by seraph and is used as the first line of defense against an invasion by the Realm of Darkness. Citizens known as Caerwyns.

  Caius Caerwyn: Duke of Caerwynspire, youngest brother of King Artur and uncle of Princess Ashleen. Now a cleric of Avalon.

  Calor, Sir: One of the few Stromish Knights to have survived the razing of the Stromland. He now acts as Commander of the mil
itary forces of Riversmeet.

  Carson, Sir: Member of Paladin accompanying Princess Ashleen south to Dracengard, brother of Sir Tomfrey and grandson of Sir Gelispee.

  Castle Greynault: Located in the Eastern part of the Kingdom of Avonvale, it is the home of the Greynault Family, relatives and allies to the royal family of Avonvale.

  Caster Astroff: Beagonian emissary to Avonvale and priest in the cult of Shebath.

  Cav, Sir: Knight of Avonvale and royal stableman to King Alexandeon.

  Cerys: Lance corporal in the City Guard of Riversmeet.

  Chaundra: Dracen Queen. Lives at Dracengard.

  Cliven: Village elder in the Stromland whom Ashleen and the Paladin rescue from draks.

  Dark One, The: One that Shebath worshipers believe will lead the armies of darkness in conquest of the Middle Realm.

  Davees: Brother of Lord Walish of Beagonia.

  Dillan: Captain of the Stromish ship Vagabond. See also, Tybalt Dillan Calder II.

  Dracen: Dragons of light, normally with colorful scales of red, blue, green, silver, or gold.

  Dracengard: Legendary location of the Keeper of Dracen. It is called Dragon’s Keep in the common tongue.

  Drakmere: Humanoid lizards who stand between six and eight feet tall when fully erect. Used as warriors by the Wizard to invade and conquer the Middle Realm. Also referred to as draks.

  Drakons: Dragons of darkness, normally with dark scales of black or gray.

  Draug: Dark, malevolent spirits that possess human corpses.

  Eamon Sommerarcher I: Former King of Ephenee, father of Eamon II, and grandfather of Eamon III.

  Eamon Sommerarcher II: Former King of Ephenee, husband of Queen Karissa and father or Prince Eamon III.

  Eamon Sommerarcher III: Crown Prince of Ephenee. Son of King Eamon II and Queen Karissa. Grandson of Duchess Sibilus.

  Edward Magnus: Prince of Elophborne. Son of King Ulrich and Queen Griselda. Brother to Princes Willem and Geoffrey and Princess Ella.

  Ehren: Original matriarch of the House of Valestead.

  Ehren River: River that flows south through Riversmeet and Avonvale and into the Glass Sea.

  Elizabeth: Lady-in-waiting to Terrwyn and Taite. Wife of Lord Bannistar and mother to Captain Bryan.

  Ella Magnus: Princess of Elophborne. Daughter of King Ulrich and Queen Griselda. Sister of Princes Willem, Edward, and Geoffrey. Betrothed to Prince Erec.

  Elophborne: Kingdom located south of Avonvale that includes the Great Forest. Ruled by the House of Magnus and is the home of Prince Willem, Princess Ella, Prince Edward, and Prince Geoffrey. Citizens known as Elophbornt.

  Elophdale: Capital city of Elophborne. Razed by the Black Knight and his drakmere.

  Elophim: Order of seraph warriors who remain in the Middle Realm to guide humanity and defend the realm from an invasion by the forces of darkness. They are known as elves in the common tongue.

  Elwood: Port city in the Kingdom of Elophborne on the edge of the Great Forest, where the royal family has a vacation palace.

  Ephenee: Island Kingdom ruled by the House of Sommerarcher. Citizens known as Epheneen.

  Erec Valestead: Crown Prince of Avonvale and son of King Alexandeon. He is brother to Princess Terrwyn and Princess Taite.

  Esther: Sister of Ehren. Killed herself by leaping from the spire of the White Fortress.

  Faith: The dracen psychically bonded to Ashleen.

  Father, The: Ruler of the seraph. Also known as Hae’lel.

  Fire Demons: Demons that can possess flame.

  Fysee: Deceased Queen of Talisaria. Mother of Queen Gwyndalin of Caerwynspire and Prince Tythan of Talisaria. Deceased wife of King Baltus of Talisaria.

  Galt, Sir: Former Knight and cavalry commander for Lord Greynault of Avonvale. Granted a Lordship once Erec took the throne.

  Ganesh, Sir: Formerly a Lance Corporal in the lancers of Avonvale, serving under Sir Terrance. Knighted and named Commander of the City Guard after Erec took the throne.

  Gavri’el: Seraph warrior and brother of Mihangel.

  Gelispee, Sir: Sergeant-at-arms of the Paladin of Caerwynspire. Trained Princess Ashleen in swordplay. Grandfather of Sir Tomfrey and Sir Carson.

  Genevieve Greynault Valestead: Queen of Avonvale who died three years before our story begins. Wife of King Alexandeon and mother of Prince Erec and Princesses Terrwyn and Taite. Sister of Theron Greynault.

  Genevieve Calder: Infant daughter of Dillan and Terrwyn Calder and twin sister of Alexandeon Calder.

  Geoffrey Magnus: Prince of Elophborne. Son of King Ulrich and Queen Griselda. Brother of Princes Willem and Edward and Princess Ella.

  Glass Sea: Sea to the south of the Great Forest in which the Island of Avalon is located.

  Great Forest, The: A forest in the southern most part of the Middle Realm composing hundreds of thousands of acres. Home of the elophim.

  Great Swamp, The: Large swamp in the northeastern portion of the Middle Realm near the Kingdom of Beagonia. Home to drakmere.

  Gregory Maraes: Former King of Beagonia. Husband of Queen Orlaith. Father of Prince Jerin and Princess Sarah. Illegitimate father of Thomas aka the Wizard Tamesis.

  Griselda Magnus: Queen of Elophborne and widow of King Ulrich. Mother of Princes Willem, Edward and Geoffrey, and Princess Ella.

  Gwillym, Sir: Knight of Avonvale, and personal guard to King Alexandeon.

  Gwyndalin Caerwyn: Queen of Caerwynspire and wife of King Artur and mother of Princess Ashleen. She is the daughter of King Baltus of Talisaria and sister of Prince Tythan.

  Gwyn Caerwyn: Princess of Caerwynspire. Daughter of King Artur and Queen Gwyndalin. Sister of Princesses Ashleen, Lisabeth and Lyn Caerwyn. Not to be confused with her mother Gwyndalin who is sometimes also referred to as Gwyn and for whom Princess Gwyn was named.

  Hae’lel: Ruler of the seraph. More commonly known by the seraph as The Father.

  Haider: Priest of Avalon.

  Hansel Magnus: Lord of Elophborne. Brother of King Ulrich and uncle to Princes Willem, Edward and Geoffrey and Princess Ella.

  Infinite Ocean: The ocean that surrounds the land of the Middle Realm.

  Jade: Eamon’s dracen.

  Jerin Maraes: Crown Prince of Beagonia. Son of King Gregory and Queen Orlaith. Brother of Princess Sarah and half-brother of Thomas, aka Tamesis.

  Jon: Slave of the drakmere being used to dig a tunnel in the Scorched Mountains. Discovers the gate to the Realm of Darkness.

  Joss: Valish lancer and member of the Royal Guard.

  Karissa Sommerarcher: Queen Regent of Ephenee, widow of King Eamon II, mother of Prince Eamon III, daughter of Duchess Sibilus, cousin of King Artur and Princess Ashleen Caerwyn.

  Lattingham: Port city in the Kingdom of Avonvale, south of the City of Avonvale along the Ehren River.

  Leon: Valish lancer and member of the Royal Guard.

  Libetha: Northern kingdom ruled by the House of Hightower. The capital city is Melveena. Citizens known as Libethan.

  Lilit: The Wizard’s mother. She is a Shebath worshiper, witch, and succubath who used a seduction spell on King Gregory of Beagonia, causing him to impregnate her with Tamesis, aka Thomas.

  Lisabeth Caerwyn: Princess of Caerwynspire. Daughter of King Arthur and Queen Gwyndalin and younger sister of Ashleen.

  Lyn Caerwyn: Princess of Caerwynspire. Daughter of King Artur and Queen Gwyndalin. Sister of Princesses Ashleen, Lisabeth and Gwyn Caerwyn.

  Madalena: Stromish woman rescued by King Tythan on the side of the road.

  Mage Astroff: Beagonian emissary to Ephenee and priest in the cult of Shebath.

  Maxin, Sir: Member of the Elophbornt resistance, knighted by King Willem.

  Melveena: Capital city of the Kingdom of Libetha.

  Merdith Greynault: Daughter of Lord Theron and Lady Azaleigh Greynault, youngest sister of Auguston, Breston, Sephene and Staphon, and cousin to Prince Erec and Princesses Terrwyn and Taite Valestead.

  Metatron: Seraph warrior and Keeper
of the Dracen at Dracengard.

  Middle Realm: The third realm where humanity lives, located between the Realm of Light and the Realm of Darkness. Half of the day is light and half of the day is dark.
