As they got closer Sasha closed her eyes and rocked gently with the movement of the boat. She counted down from twenty and with each second passed the ball of excitement inside her grew until she was engulfed in its warmth. When she opened her eyes again the boat was slowing down as it drew up beside the short wooden dock.
Jonas was standing on the beach looking at her and when their eyes locked Sasha's heart swelled with emotion. He was wearing a traditional Icelandic suit with a high necked collar and simple lines that complemented Sasha's traditional viking style dress in egg shell white with intricate embroidery across her shoulders.
When she was a young girl and she had fantasised about being swept up in to the strong arms of a viking it was nothing like the scene before her. What she was now seeing was real and better than any childish dream she once had. She waved to the people gathered on the beach and a warm cheer went up from the crowd of familiar faces. Sasha could already see the glint of a tear in Gudtors eyes as he held his wife tight against him.
This beautiful land is where my future will unfold, these amazing people will be my new family and Jonas is the man of my dreams Sasha thought as she stepped from the boat and on to the dock. Sasha walked along the dock towards her new life in Iceland as the summer sun shone bright and sure in the blue expanse above.
