"I love you, too. Even though you're hot."

Lily leaned her head back and laughed.

  "Good answer."

They were nearly ready to start the morning off right when a phone rang. Lily sighed before climbing off him. Brady's phone only rang for one reason.

"Don't keep the asshole waiting," Lily said. Brady admired her naked figure as she headed for the door. "I'm going to clean up the living room."

"Is Emma still coming over tonight?"

"Yeah. It's a two-hour drive. I told her she can stay here instead of getting a hotel."

"Hmm. I guess no sex for us."

"Bullshit. She'll be fine. We'll get her earplugs. And no three-ways. I don't care how many dicks you can shape-shift. They're all mine."

Brady shook his head as he headed for the dresser. His girlfriend was just as twisted as he was.

He glanced at the mirror as he reached for the phone. It was covered in photos taken over the past year. Pictures of Brady and Lily enjoying life. Pictures of Lily's cousin, Alyson. In the corner were Dr. Michael Oliver and Dr. Kim Sanders.

Brad pressed the phone to his ear.

"What do you want? You gave me the day off."

"A car is coming to get you in twenty minutes. Pack light, just enough for a few days."

Donovan was to the point, as always.

  "But you told me—"

"I know what I said. Things change."

  "What's going on?"

"Stop asking questions. Just get Lily, put some clothes on her, and pack."

He couldn't resist needling Donovan, just a little. Their relationship had evolved over the past year. Not friends, not enemies. He still didn't call him Donnie.

  "I don't need to pack, remember? I don't wear clothes. I don't use a brush—"

"I know, you little shit. You know what I mean. Just be ready for the car."

A dreadful thought occurred to Brady. Donovan was true to his word. No one had attacked Brady and Lily in a year. But was their cover blown? Did someone find them?

"Are we in trouble?" he asked. "Is someone after us?"

  "Not now. We'll talk later."

Brady's frustration boiled to the surface. He left the living room and joined Lily, not caring that they were both still naked. Lily let out a playful whistle as he paced.

"No, we won't talk later. We'll talk now. You've been avoiding my questions, and that wasn't part of the deal. Now what is going on?"

Donovan had his own level of frustration, but was also amused.

"Life has been so tough? Your apartment is paid for, your food, your cars. You both have good jobs. All because of me."

"I let you do science experiments on me every week."

"You want to talk science experiments? How about that little fuck-show you and Lily put on in the waiting room last week? You know we have cameras in there, right?"

Brady glanced at Lily. She could hear the conversation, and tried not to laugh. The whole thing was her idea.

She rubbed her bare arm, and Brady knew what she wanted. He took her hand and let his essence flow over her. Skimpy pink pajamas took shape. When they were together in the apartment Lily liked to literally wear Brady. He enjoyed the closeness himself.

"Donovan, just give us a clue," Brady said. "I promise we won't make porn in your lab again. You said I didn't have to get poked today. Now, we have to pack. What's going on?"

  He hesitated.

"Let's just say it's about time you met some distant relatives."

  Brady's brow furrowed. "Huh?"

"Jesus, just turn on the news. Or look out the window. You should see them by now."

  Donovan hung up.

Brady looked over to see Lily already at the patio door, holding the curtain to the side. Her body was still, her mouth open. Finally, she turned to him.

  "You…need to see this."

Still confused, he joined her and wrapped an arm around her waist. He peered outside, at a second-floor view he was still getting used to.

He didn't know where to look first. People were loading vehicles in the parking lot below. Others stood in the street, their mobile phones pointed to the sky. There was the sound of car accidents in the distance, breaking glass, squealing brakes.

Brady couldn't stop the smile at the sight of the clouds parting, the morning sun being blocked out. He turned to Lily and squeezed her hips. She placed her hands gently on his shoulders. The look on her face was priceless, one he'd never forget.

  "Told you so."
