Seeing as you’re taking requests, I’ll need a spot by a window that allows sunshine to come through the majority of the day. You’ll also need to supply me with my nightcap of creamer, warmed to just the right temperature. Piper will give you a list of my special dietary needs.
“Piper, are you sure about this?” I asked, needing to know for myself that this was truly something she wanted to do instead of staying with her family, friends, and coven. “What about your parents? Have you—”
“I didn’t work my shift today,” Piper shared as she tucked her blonde hair behind her ear when a breeze tried to blow some strands into her heart-shaped face. “Instead, I handed in my notice and went home to have a very long and serious discussion with my parents. Honestly, they’re the reason I’m so late. They understand and finally accept that this is something I need to do for myself. We cannot allow Ammeline Letty Romilda to continue this madness of cursing her fellow witches.”
You realize that my sweet girl is leaving out the part where her father almost had a heart attack.
“He did not,” Piper countered with a frown. “I promised to call them as much as I can to give them updates. They also gave me my great-great grandfather’s notes on the first coven and those specifically regarding the Allifair lineage. Maybe there’s something in his journals that refers to hexes such as yours.”
I could only hope that was the case. Knowing that I sometimes jumped headfirst into situations, I counted to ten. The pros far outweighed the cons, especially knowing that Pearl would be around to make sure that Piper remained safe if we ended up dealing with more druids, a nest of vampires, or a pack of wolves. It would also be nice to have somewhat of a guarantee that Orwin survived this dangerous quest, because there were times I had my doubts. Piper had the ability to make sure he came away unscathed.
Eventually, I slowly let my inhalation expel through my lips and gave my nod of consent.
Piper picked up Pearl and drew her into an embrace, which the white feline seemed to acquiesce to with adoration. I’d never seen her so affectionate, and it just affirmed my choice that we could all keep Piper safe while she did the same for us in general…and someday maybe even help me with my curse.
As for Orwin, he didn’t say a word about my decision.
Seriously, not one word.
He just simply opened up the back of the Jeep and began searching through his things. Piper and I shared a concerned look as Pearl gave what almost resembled a satisfied smile. Her ability to read our thoughts would take some getting used to, but at least I’d be able to count on her to tell me if something were really wrong with either of my traveling companions.
“Orwin, what are you doing?”
“What does it look like I’m doing?” Orwin finally came up with an empty over-the-counter medicine bottle. “It figures.”
“The RV will have plenty of room for each of you to have your own space.” There was no point in leaving Bedford tonight when we wouldn’t be able to take both vehicles. I fully intended to hook the Jeep onto the back of the RV, but Piper’s parents should keep the Prius. “Looks like we’re spending one more night in Bedford.”
It appears that your little flying saucers will have to wait, alien hunter.
“You keep that up, and I’ll personally give you a one-way ticket to a space—”
“Let’s start off on the right foot, shall we?” I prompted, sharing a smile with Piper.
It wasn’t so bad to mix things up, was it?
At least you can cross werewolves off Piper’s list of creatures to encounter. Now, vampires are another matter altogether. I confronted some of those bloodsuckers back in my Cleopatra days, but there’s not so many around these parts. There has been a poltergeist or two, but they…
Pearl continued to talk about the various supernatural beings that Piper had yet to meet. It was evident that the white familiar was going to be a wealth of information, maybe even more so than Orwin’s magical tomes, but something wasn’t quite adding up.
“Pearl, what do you mean Piper’s already dealt with a werewolf?”
I didn’t realize I needed to spell it out for you, dear. Do you not recall that I referred to your Knox Emeric as the big bad wolf? I meant that quite literally. I’ve known Mr. Emeric was a werewolf from the very first sniff. That powerful wet dog odor is rather hard to miss.
“So that’s what he was,” Orwin murmured in acknowledgement, as if it all made sense. Well, it didn’t. I had many questions that had been left unanswered, but something told me we hadn’t seen the last of Knox Emeric. “I want you to know that I would have figured out what Emeric was had I been given enough time.”
Pearl gave what looked to be another mollified smile as she swayed her tail behind her, still soaking in Piper’s affection.
“What can I say?” Piper quipped with a grin and a small shrug. “Pearl likes it when she’s right.”
I had not one, but two know-it-alls who weren’t able to communicate properly.
“I resent being compared to a cat,” Orwin muttered, tossing me the keys to the Jeep without once looking away from our new passengers. “You realize that I’m going to need to stock up on allergy medicine before we leave town, right?”

About the Author
First and foremost, I love life. I love that I’m a wife, mother, daughter, sister… and a writer.
I am one of the lucky women in this world who gets to do what makes them happy. As long as I have a cup of coffee (maybe two or three) and my laptop, the stories evolve themselves and I try to do them justice. I draw my inspiration from a retired Marine Master Sergeant that swept me off of my feet and has drawn me into a world that fulfills all of my deepest and darkest desires. Erotic romance, military men, intrigue, with a little bit of kinky chili pepper (his recipe), fill my head and there is nothing more satisfying than making the hero and heroine fulfill their destinies.
Thank you for having joined me on their journeys…
