“Well,” Conner says, rubbing his hand along my leg on top of the billowy folds of my wedding dress.
We turn the corner, exiting the drive, all of the friends and family and random business contacts of my parents’ disappearing from view.
I sigh and look up into his intoxicating eyes and loving gaze. “Well?” I whisper.
He cups my face in his hands and pulls me in for a kiss. This one is soft and warm and long. “I’d marry you again, Claire.” He presses his forehead to mine and smiles.
“A third time?”
“A third time.”
“Third time is a charm, so they say.”
“Who’s this ‘they’ anyway?” Conner settles back into his seat comfortably. “Martha Stewart’s team? Martha herself?”
“Oh!” I grab his arm. “That reminds me! I was reading, in Martha Stewart Weddings, of course.” I flash him a broad smile. “There was this section about honeymoons. Particularly about cruise ship honeymoons. To Mexico! They said that there’s this particular cay in this one bay or beach or private beach, or…I don’t know…where you can snorkel and go through really colorful caves and find these big, balloony fish and…”
Conner’s looking at me with that look—that look of his that says I’m getting hyper and having fun and, I guess, just being myself.
“Sound like a fun idea?” I raise my eyebrows.
“I don’t care what we do, Claire, so long as we’re together.” He takes my hand in his.
“So that’s a yes?” I can’t help myself.
He chuckles and draws nearer, our hands and fingers twisting together, and he thumbs at my wedding ring. “A definite yes.”
I rest my head on his shoulder and close my eyes for a while. A definite yes, I run the words through my mind. That’s how it always was with Conner, from the very beginning, through the roughest of times, during the happiest moments, to right now…and forever. A definite yes to a man whom I would definitely marry a third time!
Although, wedding planning sure is exhausting work. I think twice is plenty for us. Yeah, two weddings is perfect. Besides, there’s bound to be another wedding in the works soon enough among all the girls.
But before I break out my stacks of magazines again, I’m going on my honeymoon. With my husband, the love of my life—the man whom, even if it meant being thrown another lawsuit or having to go through all sorts of crazy trouble, I really would chase after, love forever, and marry all over again.
