Checkmate 3: Playtime's Over Page 17

“Oh shit,” she said covering what she could with her hands. “I’m sorry you can bring my baby in. I just wasn’t expecting you.” She was trying to walk off quickly, but walking backwards wasn’t as easy when she was already so caught off guard. She turned, quickly speed walking out of the entertainment room. Brendon smiled because he knew that she was embarrassed, but she was very cute trying to get away from him. She didn’t have anything that he wasn’t used to seeing, but she was definitely full of sex appeal and he was feeling it.

Candy rushed in her room pressing her back up against the wall. She sighed. She was very embarrassed that Brendon had caught her in her sleepwear. Plus, her hair was a mess. She took in another deep breath as her phone rang.

  “Hello,” she answered.

“Hey lil lady,” Monty said. “Bren is bringing MJ home this morning. I was running late and asked if he would drop him off for me.”

Candy deeply exhaled. “Thanks for the heads up Monty,” she said with sarcasm.

“That’s not a problem is it?” Monty asked.

“Nah, it’s all good. He’s here dropping him off now. I’ll talk to you later. I have to get ready for school.”

“Okay, I’ll pick him up this evening when I get off and mama is going to watch him tomorrow.”

“Okay,” she said ending the call.

“Hey Candy,” Brendon called out. “MJ is sleep so I’ll see my way out,” he said. Dee was walking past Candy’s door but stopped in the doorway as she heard Brendon’s voice.

“Is that…” Dee whispered to Candy.

“Un-huh…” Candy responded by nodding her head.

“I’ll get MJ.” Dee grinned and hurried down the hall. Candy didn’t know what to say as she stared in the mirror. She wanted to at least yell something, anything back to him but she couldn’t.

“You don’t have to rush off,” Dee said stopping Brendon from leaving. He slowly turned to face Dee. “I see you brought my nephew home.” She said walking over and kissing a peacefully sleeping MJ on the forehead.

“Yeah, I was just dropping lil man off and I’ma head on outta here.”

“Don’t rush off so soon.” Dee said picking MJ up out of his car seat. Brendon’s head leaned to the side a little as he admired the Victoria’s Secret red sleep shorts and white fitted tank that Dee sported. He could see her hips from the front and it looked damn good. He had to quickly snap back.

  “I need to-”

Dee cut in. “You need to what? Sit for a lil bit. I think it was meant for you to come over.” She smiled at him. “I’d been asking about you.”

“Oh yeah,” he said smiling back at her.

“Yeah, and I know that you should have gotten at least one of those messages.” She said with a smirk.

  “I did.” He truthfully stated.

“And what’s the problem? You don’t think I’m cute enough for you?” She joked. Brendon looked at her and smiled. She was indeed cute as hell, but that had nothing to do with it.

“Nah, it’s not like that.” He responded.

“Well, what’s it like?” She asked cradling MJ in her arms. “Betta yet, hold that thought. I’ll be right back. I’m ‘bout to lay him down.” She said as she turned her back to him. Brendon smiled at the sight of her fat ass jiggling as she headed down the hallway. Seeing two beautiful half naked women that early in the morning brought back some good memories. He could clearly see that Candy and Dee were kin and close kin at that. There asses told him so. He grinned because even though getting this type of attention came naturally it was still a good feeling each time it happened.

Candy was sliding her black leggings on as the thought of Brendon crept back in her mind. She’d been trying to shake him since she opened the door up and he was standing there. His presence caught her completely off guard. She wasn’t embarrassed about him seeing her in her nighties because she wasn’t self conscience. She just wished that it didn’t happen like that.

Candy slid on her black Steve Madden wide heel pumps. She stood up brushing off her skirt and stared in her body mirror. She felt and looked good. Her hair was pinned up with a bit of hair that hung over her eye. She brushed it back out of her face. Brendon’s smile entered her thoughts again. He was just too damn handsome. It should have been against the law for men to walk around looking that good. She looked over at the time on her alarm clock.

Damn, it’s time for me to go. She quickly thought and grabbed her black leather Guess purse. She took another glimpse in her full body mirror and smiled.

Brendon swayed back and forth while standing with his arms folded. He quickly looked around the place. It was very clean and smelled of a sweet strawberry aroma. There was a brightly colored painting on the wall that caught his attention. It blended in perfectly with the décor in the entertainment room. He could see another big portrait on the wall of Candy and her parents. He was curious to find out the story behind their broken home. Monty was about to tell him what happened with her family and why her mama wasn’t living there, but Catherine burst in talking about Mona’s baby and threw off their conversation.

He looked down at his watch. “Damn, I need to go.” He whispered just as Candy entered the room as if she was in a hurry.

“Oh hey,” she said looking over at Brendon. “I thought you might have left by now.”

“Nah, your cousin asked me to stay for a minute.” He responded.

Candy knew that they weren’t in a relationship and that she had no say so over whom he could or couldn’t talk with but she truly didn’t want him connecting with Dee on that level even though she wasn’t a hater.

“Yeah I believe my cousin has a thang for you.” She said smiling.

  “You don’t say?” He joked.

“You know it’s right nigga. Don’t play with me.” She teased. Brendon grinned. Candy was feisty with a sense of humor and beautiful. He was really digging her style.

“So, are you trying to get to know her better?” Candy asked with sarcasm. Brendon stared her up and down. She was really wearing that outfit.

“I was thinking that I may as well since this other female I know won’t holla at me.” He responded.

Candy grinned. “You’re funny, ya know?”

  “Am I?” Brendon asked.

“Yes you are and I don’t have time to follow you up. I have school this morning.” She nonchalantly said.

“Oh school is today, huh? Well, you look nice.”

  “Thanks…” She blushed.

“Oh and have a nice day. Hopefully I’ll hear from you soon.” He said as Candy stood there smiling. Dee returned and smacked Candy on the butt.

  “Looking good Cuz.” She said.

“Thanks Boo,” Candy responded and looked Dee up and down. “Where are your clothes?” She asked tugging on Dee’s short shorts.

“I may not need any clothes if somebody acts right.” Dee said as she and Candy laughed. Brendon smiled.

Candy looked over at him. “Alright Dee don’t scare him off.” She said walking toward the front door.

“He knows I’m just playing.” Dee said winking at him. “Don’t you?”

“Yeah I know you’re just playing, but look I have to be going too. I have some business I need to handle.”

“Well damn, Cuz… Maybe I did scare him off.” They laughed.

“Nah, I’m serious.” He said. “And I don’t scare easily.” Candy and Dee looked over at each other and smiled.

“Hmm… Well, I really like this one Cousin.” Dee commented. Candy shook her head and hit Dee on the arm.

“She’s just silly so please overlook her.” Candy teased making Brendon laugh.

“So does that mean that I can go?” Brendon joked.

“Okay, I’ll let you go but I’ll see you around,” Dee teased. “You can’t hide from me.” Candy shook her head because she knew that Dee was quite comical when it came down to flirting with men.

“Kiss my baby for me,” Candy said while opening the do
or up. Brendon followed her outside. He didn’t want Dee throwing herself on him because he was very horny and she was looking good enough for him to relieve his tension with no problems.

He pulled the door shut behind him following Candy down the porch steps. Candy never looked back at him because she figured that Dee was posted up in the window watching them or rather him.

“So is my cousin your type?” She asked.

“Maybe,” Brendon responded. “She’s cool, but I don’t like her like that.”

“Is that right?” She asked, stopping at her car.

“Uh-huh, that’s right.” He grinned. “Is it possible if I could see you later?”

Candy quickly looked back at him. “Maybe,” she said while getting inside her car. Brendon smiled as he kept walking to his truck. Candy admired his sexy physique from the rearview mirror as she watched him until he pulled off. He was sexy as hell with his curly mohawk. His teeth were perfect and his nonchalant laid-back demeanor was a huge turn-on. The feeling he gave her was exhilarating and she wanted more of that high. She smiled while backing out of her driveway with Brendon on her mind.

Boy, I hope that school is this interesting, she thought.

Monty pulled up at the office. He parked his car nodding his head to I’m Single by Lil Wayne. The heat blew soothingly in his face from the car vents and a warm feeling came over him.

He had an early morning meeting with MiKayla. He hadn’t seen her since she broke up with him. They’d had a few conversations over the phone, but she never made any attempts to see him and neither did he. All he wanted to do was make her and Candy feel better and if that meant him not being around them then he’d stay away. He felt bad for hurting MiKayla because he knew that she was a good girl, but a good girl didn’t stand a chance of being with a bad boy.

His thoughts reflected to seeing MiKayla’s beautiful smile again. Knowing that he would get the chance to see her beautiful smile made him feel pretty good inside. He tried to love her as best as he could, but he knew that she was no fool. She knew where the majority of his heart was and who it was really with. She expressed her feelings to him, but it wouldn’t change the fact that he loved her, but he loved Candy more. He didn’t know how things would be between them, but hopefully things would still be cool once they saw each other.

His phone rang and he looked down at it. He smiled when he saw the letter K on his caller ID.

“Hey,” he answered looking down at his watch. “Don’t you suppose to be somewhere right about now?”

She mustered up a grin. “I know big head, but I’m gonna have to reschedule. I don’t feel well this morning.” Monty could hear it in her voice.

  “Are you okay?” He asked.

“Yeah, I’m good. I just have a really bad cold. I woke up not feeling well at all. My throat is so sore.”

“Have you taken something for it?”

“Yeah, I have some Theraflu for sore throat. It should ease the pain some. Normally, I don’t get too sick where I don’t wanna move, but lying down is the only thing that makes me feel better.”

“Do you need something?” Monty asked. “I don’t mind bringing it over.”

“Nah, I just need to rest a little, but hey… Thank you.” She said.

“Any time,” he responded. “If you need something just call me.”

“I will,” she responded. “And, we’ll catch up on that meeting hopefully before the week is over.”

“Okay,” Monty said and MiKayla ended their call.

Monty wanted to see MiKayla so bad. It was like he needed to share her space. He needed to breathe her air. He had a connection with her. He couldn’t quite put his finger on it but it was tempting. He knew it was something there, because she was the only woman who made him doubt being with Candy. During his very selfish thoughts of being with MiKayla he would sometimes wonder if it wasn’t for MJ would he love Candy so much.

Monty sat still for awhile thinking. He then picked up his cell to make a few calls.

Brendon opened up the doors to Raven’s. It was all coming together. He looked around at the place that he was proud to own. He realized that for the most part Augusta was now going to be his home; the place where he was going to get his legal grind on. He was excited about the change.

The décor in the building was already taking form of what he imagined it to be. He hit the light switch and the Ice Chandeliers lit up throughout the lower level of the sports bar. The crystal florescent lighting gave it a very relaxing feel. The lights could become brighter or dimmer at just the touch of the switch. He slowly walked around the club and was very satisfied with the décor.

Mama Mack wasn’t quite finished furnishing the place but it was almost done. He admired the four different sections of the club which were designed for VIP only. Each section had a beautiful black and white portrait of a sexy naked lady who was posed in a very tasteful position which covered their private parts. They were elegant, classy, and appealing. Each section had black leather Enrique Sectionals that sat up to ten people. The Modular series ninety degree black corner table with the crystal laminate finish looked perfect in front of each sectional. He nodded his head with a stamp of approval. Mama Mack was doing a great job.

He walked in the middle open floor where he could already see the Concord Pub tables with the crystal base and the black Ecco Bar stools that would seat two at each table. Brendon smiled crossing his arms. He stood back admiring the Grand Ice Chandelier over the bar. It was beautiful and would only enhance the eighty gallon fish aquarium that would be sitting in the wall by the time the club opened. He could already see the people sitting there and enjoying their drinks. The front door of the club opened and Brendon turned to see who was walking in.

“Well hey you!” Shouted Kina as she dropped her bags and ran over to hug him. Brendon hugged her tight. It felt good to see somebody from back home.

“Hey, I didn’t realize that time had gone by so fast.” He said looking down at his watch then looking her up and down.

“I took an earlier flight. You know… I wanted to surprise you. Plus, I thought since you’d been here a few weeks that we would have time for you to show me around.” Kina said.

“Yeah yeah, no problem,” he said. “What’s up with the red Mohawk? Are you trying to get like me? Well, minus the color.” He grinned causing Kina to smile at him.

“Do you like it?” She asked.

  “It looks a’ight.” He said.

She hit him on the arm. “Seriously, what do you think?”

“I think it goes great with your caramel skin color. It’s different, but it’s you.” She blushed at his comment.

  “So what does that mean?”

“It means that your hair is just as wild as your personality, but seriously it fits you. The hair hanging over your eye is banging.” They laughed.

“Banging, huh? What kind of shit… You know what? Never mind… Look at this place,” she said while looking around.

“So you like it?” He asked.

“Like it, I LOVE IT!” Kina responded. She gently hit Brendon on the arm. “I’m really glad to see you here and doing exactly what you said that you were gonna do.”

“I said I needed change.” He responded.

“And this is definitely change,” Kina responded. “Look at you!” She said. Brendon stood there smiling. He was always one sexy man to Kina who had a crush on him since they were best friends in the sixth grade. He was sexy, cool, and such the ladies man. However, during their years in school Brendon didn’t look at her in that way. She wore glasses, had buck teeth, and was skinny and tall. She wasn’t what Brendon wanted physically at all in a woman and he showed it by sleeping with every other cute, thick, or spunky chick that entered their circle, including her older sister.

“Look at you,” he said. “You actually came. I didn’t really believe it until I booked your room.”

  “Do you think I’d l
eave my best friend hanging?” She said with her hands on her hip as she began to walk around admiring the place.

“I’m glad you still see me as your best friend.” He didn’t know what to think after Kina tried kissing him on New Years and he left her hanging.

“Why would you think otherwise? I’m here because you wanted me to come support you. Haven’t I always been here for you?”
